Development Of A Preliminary Energy Assessment Tool For Alternative Cooling System, Pinsuda Netphasom
Development Of A Preliminary Energy Assessment Tool For Alternative Cooling System, Pinsuda Netphasom
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In recent years, an absorption chiller coupled with solar technologies has been presented as a solution to decrease the amount of electricity consumption. The absorption chiller technology primarily consumes thermal energy instead of electricity to generate the chilled water. In addition, this technology can take advantage of waste energy and renewable resources like solar power. Solar photovoltaic and thermal collectors produce electrical and thermal energy to assist the alternative cooling system as a renewable resource. These solar and absorption technologies are promising solutions to reduce energy consumption and reduce the environmental impact caused by greenhouse gases. This study aims to …

Energy Considerations In Blockchain-Enabled Applications, Cesar Enrique Castellon Escobar
Energy Considerations In Blockchain-Enabled Applications, Cesar Enrique Castellon Escobar
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Blockchain-powered smart systems deployed in different industrial applications promise operational efficiencies and improved yields, while mitigating significant cybersecurity risks pertaining to the main application. Associated tradeoffs between availability and security arise at implementation, however, triggered by the additional resources (e.g., memory, computation) required by each blockchain-enabled host. This thesis applies an energy-reducing algorithmic engineering technique for Merkle Tree root and Proof of Work calculations, two principal elements of blockchain computations, as a means to preserve the promised security benefits but with less compromise to system availability. Using pyRAPL, a python library to measure computational energy, we experiment with both the …
Consensus Based Control Strategy For Virtual Synchronous Generators In Microgrids, Anusha Kandula
Consensus Based Control Strategy For Virtual Synchronous Generators In Microgrids, Anusha Kandula
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Renewable energy sources such as photo-voltaic and wind energy are integrating very rapidly in power systems. These energy-based systems typically adopt power-electronic interfaced inverters to connect to the grid. However, unlike traditional generators, these sources have low inertia, resulting in system stability issues, especially in microgrids where they are the primary sources. To mitigate the low-inertia effect, the inverters are modeled as virtual synchronous generators (VSG), and their control is designed. The VSG emulates the inertia effect of the synchronous generator and maintains the stability of the system. Even though the droop control provides the primary control, it is insufficient …

Reverse Engineering Of Short Circuit Analyses, Anurag Nagpure
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
The electrical distribution system has evolved with embedded computer systems that can better manage the electrical fault that occurred around the feeders. Such random events can affect the reliability indices of overall systems. Computerized management system for distribution operation has been improving with the advanced sensing technologies. The general research question is here to articulate is the responsiveness for utility crew to pinpoint the exact location of a fault based on the SCADA fault indicators from pole-mounted feeder remote terminal units (FRTUs). This has been a tricky question because it relies on the information received from the sensors that can …
A Transdisciplinary Analysis Of Just Transition Pathways To 100% Renewable Electricity, Adewale Aremu Adesanya
A Transdisciplinary Analysis Of Just Transition Pathways To 100% Renewable Electricity, Adewale Aremu Adesanya
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
The transition to using clean, affordable, and reliable electrical energy is critical for enhancing human opportunities and capabilities. In the United States, many states and localities are engaging in this transition despite the lack of ambitious federal policy support. This research builds on the theoretical framework of the multilevel perspective (MLP) of sociotechnical transitions as well as the concept of energy justice to investigate potential pathways to 100 percent renewable energy (RE) for electricity provision in the U.S. This research seeks to answer the question: what are the technical, policy, and perceptual pathways, barriers, and opportunities for just transition to …
Real Time Adaptive Relay Settings For Microgrid Protection Verified Using Hardware In Loop, Aadam Harnekar
Real Time Adaptive Relay Settings For Microgrid Protection Verified Using Hardware In Loop, Aadam Harnekar
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Microgrids with penetration of renewables is imposing new challenges for system protection. Renewables are characterized with high source impedance which limit the short circuit current. The value of short-circuit current is limited due to converters used which limit the current to a maximum of 1.1 to 1.5 times maximum rated load current. This can result in faults during the islanded mode of microgrid to go unnoticed if the relay settings are not adapted to account for it. The presence of such uncleared faults in the microgrid can result in exposing it to overcurrent for a long time which can damage …
