Molecular Dynamics Study Of Characterization In Metal-Free Friction Materials, Yizhan Zhang Nov 2023

Molecular Dynamics Study Of Characterization In Metal-Free Friction Materials, Yizhan Zhang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Metallic friction materials currently used in industry may adversely impact the environment. Substitutions for metals in friction materials, on the other hand, can introduce operational safety issues and other unforeseeable issues such as thermal-mechanical instabilities and insufficient strength. In view of it, this dissertation focuses on developing different kinds of materials from simple structure to complex structure and evaluating the material properties with the assistance of molecular dynamics (MD) tools at the nano scale.

First, the concept of the contacted surfaces in friction at the atomic scale was introduced in order to get accurate understanding of the friction process compared …

Simultaneous Behavior Onset Detection And Task Classification For Patients With Parkinson Disease Using Subthalamic Nucleus Local Field Potentials, Nazanin Zaker Habibabadi Aug 2016

Simultaneous Behavior Onset Detection And Task Classification For Patients With Parkinson Disease Using Subthalamic Nucleus Local Field Potentials, Nazanin Zaker Habibabadi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis aims to develop of methods for behavior onset detection of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), as well as to investigate the models for classification of different behavioral tasks performed by PD patient. The detection is based on recorded Local Field Potentials (LFP) of the Subthalamic nucleus (STN), captured through Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) process.

One main part of this work is dedicated to the research of various properties and features of the STN LFP signals of several patients' behavior conditions. Features based on temporal and time-frequency analysis of the signals are developed and implemented. Evaluation and comparison of …

Thermally Actuated Resonant Silicon Crystal Nanobalances, Arash Hajjam Aug 2012

Thermally Actuated Resonant Silicon Crystal Nanobalances, Arash Hajjam

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

As the potential emerging technology for next generation integrated resonant sensors and frequency references as well as electronic filters, micro-electro-mechanical resonators have attracted a lot of attention over the past decade. As a result, a wide variety of high frequency micro/nanoscale electromechanical resonators have recently been presented. MEMS resonators, as low-cost highly integrated and ultra-sensitive mass sensors, can potentially provide new opportunities and unprecedented capabilities in the area of mass sensing. Such devices can provide orders of magnitude higher mass sensitivity and resolution compared to Film Bulk Acoustic resonators (FBAR) or the conventional quartz and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) resonators …
