Analysis And Application Of Finite Element And High-Order Finite Difference Methods For Maxwell’S Equations In Complex Media, Li Zhu
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) technique is an effective tool introduced by B´erenger [13] to reduce the unbounded wave propagation problem to a bounded domain problem. This dissertation focuses on two different PML models and their applications to wave propagation problems with Maxwell’s equation in complex media. We investigate these models using two popular numerical methods: the Finite Difference Method (FDM) in Chapters 2 and 3, and the Finite Element Method (FEM) in Chapters 4 and 5.In Chapter 2, we focus on analyzing the stability of a PML developed by B’ecache et al. [10] for simulating wave propagation in the …
Fabrication And Characterization Of Photodetector Devices Based On Nanostructured Materials: Graphene And Colloidal Nanocrystals, Wafaa Gebril
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Photodetectors are devices that capture light signals and convert them into electrical signals. High performance photodetectors are in demand in a variety of applications, such as optical communication, security, and environmental monitoring. Among many appealing nanomaterials for novel photodetection devices, graphene and semiconductor colloidal nanocrystals are promising candidates because of their desirable and unique properties compared to conventional materials.
Photodetector devices based on different types of nanostructured materials including graphene and colloidal nanocrystals were investigated. First, graphene layers were mechanically exfoliated and characterized for device fabrication. Self-powered few layers graphene phototransistors were studied. At zero drain voltage bias and room …
Graphene As A Shielding Material For Sar Reduction In Human Head Using Rectangular And Circular Patch Antenna, Alka Singla Er., Anupma Marwaha Dr., Sanjay Marwaha Dr.
Graphene As A Shielding Material For Sar Reduction In Human Head Using Rectangular And Circular Patch Antenna, Alka Singla Er., Anupma Marwaha Dr., Sanjay Marwaha Dr.
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Nanomaterials pave the way for better performance in wireless applications due to their unique properties. Nowadays, these have been used as shield material in dipole antennas for a solution of reduction in SAR value. This work proposes the use of emerging graphene nanomaterial by comparing the performance for two different shapes of patch antenna namely rectangular and circular patch. With the growth in technology, the protection of human health is also mandatory so the work is planned to use graphene as a shielding material for SAR reduction in the human brain and it is proved that for rectangular and circular …
Unidirectional And Nonreciprocal Nanophotonic Devices Based On Graphene And Magneto-Optical Materials, Vahid Foroughi Nezhad
Unidirectional And Nonreciprocal Nanophotonic Devices Based On Graphene And Magneto-Optical Materials, Vahid Foroughi Nezhad
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
In this dissertation, we first introduce compact tunable spatial mode converters for graphene parallel plate (GPP) waveguides. The converters are reciprocal and based on spatial modulation of graphene’s conductivity. The wavelength of operation of the mode converters is tunable in the mid-infrared wavelength range by adjusting the chemical potential of a strip on one of the graphene layers of the GPP waveguides. We also introduce optical diodes for GPP waveguides based on a spatial mode converter and a coupler, which consists of a single layer of graphene placed in the middle between the two plates of two GPP waveguides. \par …
Dual Graphene Patch Antenna For Ka Band Satellite Applications, Mohammed Amin Rabah, Mohammed Bekhti
Dual Graphene Patch Antenna For Ka Band Satellite Applications, Mohammed Amin Rabah, Mohammed Bekhti
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Currently; grapheme offers a new opportunity to use in space technology and this is due to its amazing properties like conductivity, strength, flexibility and transparency which allows us to exploit new generation of ultra-fast nanoscale components; Since future wireless communication techniques are geared towards the use of the high frequency spectrum and many recent research prove this trend. This letter presents a proposal for design of a dual graphene-based antenna to use in new communication techniques in Ka band, where the proposed antenna can work for uplink and dowlink frequencies at same time since it has return loss less then …
Ellipsometric Characterization Of Silicon And Carbon Junctions For Advanced Electronics, Alexander G. Boosalis
Ellipsometric Characterization Of Silicon And Carbon Junctions For Advanced Electronics, Alexander G. Boosalis
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Ellipsometry has long been a valuable technique for the optical characterization of layered systems and thin films. While simple systems like epitaxial silicon dioxide are easily characterized, complex systems of silicon and carbon junctions have proven difficult to analyze. Traditional model dielectric functions for layered silicon homojunctions, a system with a similar structure to modern transistors, often have correlated parameters during ellipsometric data analysis. Similarly, epitaxial graphene as grown from thermal sublimation of silicon from silicon carbide or through chemical vapor deposition, tend to have model dielectric function parameters that correlate with the optical thickness of the graphene due to …
Large-Scale Graphene Film Deposition For Monolithic Device Fabrication, Khaled Al-Shurman
Large-Scale Graphene Film Deposition For Monolithic Device Fabrication, Khaled Al-Shurman
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Since 1958, the concept of integrated circuit (IC) has achieved great technological developments and helped in shrinking electronic devices. Nowadays, an IC consists of more than a million of compacted transistors.
The majority of current ICs use silicon as a semiconductor material. According to Moore's law, the number of transistors built-in on a microchip can be double every two years. However, silicon device manufacturing reaches its physical limits. To explain, there is a new trend to shrinking circuitry to seven nanometers where a lot of unknown quantum effects such as tunneling effect can not be controlled. Hence, there is an …
Graphene Based Metamaterials For Terahertz Cloaking And Subwavelength Imaging, Seyedali Forouzmand
Graphene Based Metamaterials For Terahertz Cloaking And Subwavelength Imaging, Seyedali Forouzmand
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Graphene is a two-dimensional carbon crystal that became one of the most controversial topics of research in the last few years. The intense interest in graphene stems from recent demonstrations of their potentially revolutionary electromagnetic applications – including negative refraction, subdiffraction imaging, and even invisibility – which have suggested a wide range of new devices for communications, sensing, and biomedicine. In addition, it has been shown that graphene is amenable to unique patterning schemes such as cutting, bending, folding, and fusion that are predicted to lead to interesting properties. A recent proposed application of graphene is in engineering the scattering …

Nano And Nanostructured Materials For Optical Applications, Panit Chantharasupawong
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nano and nanostructured materials offer unique physical and chemical properties that differ considerably from their bulk counterparts. For decades, due to their fascinating properties, they have been extensively explored and found to be beneficial in numerous applications. These materials are key components in many cutting-edge optic and photonic technologies, including photovoltaics, waveguides and sensors. In this dissertation, the uses of nano and nanostructured materials for optical applications are investigated in the context of optical limiting, three dimensional displays, and optical sensing. Nanomaterials with nonlinear optical responses are promising candidates for self-activating optical limiters. In the first part of this study, …
