Electromagnetic Theory And Applications, 2nd Edition, Nicholas Madamopoulos, George Kliros
Electromagnetic Theory And Applications, 2nd Edition, Nicholas Madamopoulos, George Kliros
Open Educational Resources
This book intends to provide both the fundamentals of Electromagnetics but also some practical applications of the concepts covered. Having taught electromagnetics for several years, the authors feel that many times the field of electromagnetics comes as “old” and often times students do not appreciate the concepts and their importance in everyday applications. The authors intend to accompany the EM concepts with life applications. Hence, students may see the direct impact of the knowledge they acquire through the study of the field of electromagnetics and better appreciate the field.
Electronic On Planes: Security Measures And Avionics Disruption, Martin Jasek, Ivana Olivková
Electronic On Planes: Security Measures And Avionics Disruption, Martin Jasek, Ivana Olivková
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Airlines have implemented various security measures to address the use of electronics on aircraft, focusing on telecommunication services, Bluetooth technology, and personal electronic devices (PEDs). This study evaluates 50 airlines using data from websites and safety videos to assess these technologies. While the integration of new technologies like in-flight Wi-Fi and Bluetooth offers passenger benefits, concerns persist about the potential electromagnetic interference with aircraft avionics. Early research by NASA and the FCC highlighted the risks, finding that devices like mobile phones could disrupt GPS signals during critical flight phases. Despite conflicting studies, ongoing monitoring is essential to balance passenger connectivity …

Development Of A Radar-Frequency Metamaterial Measurement And Characterization Apparatus, Stephen I. Faris
Development Of A Radar-Frequency Metamaterial Measurement And Characterization Apparatus, Stephen I. Faris
Theses and Dissertations
The overall purpose of this research was to design, build, and test an apparatus for the measurement and characterization of radar-frequency metamaterial performance in the S-band through Ku-band (2-18 GHz). Measurement and characterization is vital to metamaterial taxonomy and ultimately vital to metamaterial definitions. Thus, the current lack of clarity in metamaterial definitions has served as the primary motivation for pursuing a method for taxonomy and thus, this apparatus. The technical goal of this thesis was to aid in the understanding of a metamaterial's radar-frequency response by developing an apparatus that would take simple, yet significant measurements of a metamaterial's …
Electromagnetic Propagation Anomalies In Waveguiding Structures And Scattering Systems, Alessandro Salandrino
Electromagnetic Propagation Anomalies In Waveguiding Structures And Scattering Systems, Alessandro Salandrino
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The effects related to diffraction and interference are ubiquitous in phenomena involving electromagnetic wave propagation, and are accurately predicted and described within the framework of classical electrodynamics. In the vast majority of the cases the qualitative features of the evolution of a propagating wave can be inferred even without detailed calculations. A field distribution will spread upon propagation, will accumulate phase along the direction of power flow, will exert mechanical forces upon scattering objects in the direction of propagation etc. When such predictions fail, counterintuitive effects and new functionalities can be engineered. In this work a series of exceptional cases …
Focusing Electromagnetic Radiation In Dielectric Media, Mark A. Migliaccio Jr.
Focusing Electromagnetic Radiation In Dielectric Media, Mark A. Migliaccio Jr.
Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Bioelectrics and microwave imaging requires an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna to deliver intense, short electromagnetic pulses into biological targets for the purpose of therapy and imaging. Two antennas with different focal distances, predicted by a two dimensional model, have been designed for focusing electromagnetic radiation in the near field.
Focusing is achieved through the use of prolate spheroidal reflector antennas with a conical wave launcher submerged in water. For an ultra-wideband feed signal, with a rise time of 200 picoseconds, the maximum electric field was found to be close to the edge of the reflector, a result that differs from the …
Investigation Of Frequency-Domain And Time-Domain Free-Space Material Measurements, Kirt J. Cassell
Investigation Of Frequency-Domain And Time-Domain Free-Space Material Measurements, Kirt J. Cassell
Theses and Dissertations
Electromagnetic material characterization is the process of determining the complex permittivity and permeability of a test sample. The primary goal of this thesis is to develop a new two-transmission material measurement method to decrease the error associated with using a reflection measurement. The transmission method uses a sample transmission measurement and an acrylic-backed sample transmission measurement. This technique is first demonstrated in a rectangular waveguide system then extended to frequency-domain and time-domain focus arch free-space systems. The frequency-domain free-space calibration process decreases accuracy at the band edges. The use of a digital oscilloscope with a time-domain reflectometer (TDR) module should …
Stepped Waveguide Electromagnetic Material Characterization Technique, Sean P. Dorey
Stepped Waveguide Electromagnetic Material Characterization Technique, Sean P. Dorey
Theses and Dissertations
Electromagnetic material characterization is the process of determining the complex permittivity and permeability of a material. A new waveguide material measurement technique is developed to reduce test sample size requirements for low-frequency applications. Specifically, a waveguide sample holder having a reduced aperture is utilized to decrease the time and cost spent producing large precision test samples. This type of sample holder causes a disruption in the waveguide-wall surface currents that results in the excitation of higher-order modes. This thesis will demonstrate how these higher-order modes can be accommodated using a modal-analysis technique, thus resulting in the ability to measure smaller …
A Study Of Radiofrequency Effects On Gene Expression, Elizabeth A. Coln
A Study Of Radiofrequency Effects On Gene Expression, Elizabeth A. Coln
Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Numerous studies have been completed over the past several years to look at the non-thermal effects of low-level radiofrequency exposure on biological systems. These studies were done to determine if exposure to radiofrequency fields are safe, or if they may lead to health problems or changes to any of the biological processes continually occurring within the human body. Responses measured include stress responses (I), gene expression (2), cell proliferation (3), cell morphology (4), and changes in DNA (5).
Dispersion is the most common model for explaining the electric behavior of biomaterials. It refers to the corresponding frequency domain concept of …
