Visible Modulation Of Epsilon Near Zero Materials, Jonathan M. Weber Jan 2025

Visible Modulation Of Epsilon Near Zero Materials, Jonathan M. Weber

Theses and Dissertations

While Epsilon-Near-Zero materials have offered many benefits from their introduction to the field of nonlinear optics, those materials have also narrowed the range of wavelengths often studied. With reliable and proven enhancements to light-matter interaction in the ENZ region, many researchers have had little reason to extend the spectrum measured in experiments. The purpose of this work is to measure the intensity dependent refractive index of Indium Tin Oxide across a broad spectral range, from ultraviolet to near infrared, to improve the understanding of semiconductor nonlinearities far from Lorentz and Drude resonances. Furthermore, the visible region is naturally low-loss in …

Plasmon-Assisted On-Chip Integration Of Quantum Emitter For Scalable Quantum Networking, Samprity Saha Jan 2025

Plasmon-Assisted On-Chip Integration Of Quantum Emitter For Scalable Quantum Networking, Samprity Saha

Theses and Dissertations

In recent decades, quantum theory has sparked a revolutionary outlook on our long-standing perception of information processing and communication technologies. Photon-based quantum systems, relying on single photons governed by quantum mechanics, hold immense promise for quantum networks due to their resilience against decoherence and fast propagation speeds. However, challenges persist in realizing practical quantum networks, including the need for scalable, robust, and cost-effective quantum light. To address these challenges with classical photonic concepts, this thesis focuses on a plasmon-assisted approach for on-chip integration of single-photon sources. The study aims to develop a scalable solution for integrating quantum emitters on-chip, leveraging …

Simulated Efficiency Of A Modified Bmw I3 Traction Motor Operating As An Isolated Dc-Dc Converter, Shayne Taylor Jan 2025

Simulated Efficiency Of A Modified Bmw I3 Traction Motor Operating As An Isolated Dc-Dc Converter, Shayne Taylor

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Battery electric vehicles are currently fighting to have any advantage over internal combustion engine powered vehicles to reduce global transportation greenhouse gas emissions. Electric motors are typically deemed as the largest source of loss in many vehicles but have recently become more efficient on average than the AC-DC converter used to charge the vehicle. This paper investigates the potential for a dual three phase electric traction motor based on a BMW i3 electric vehicle traction motor to take the place of an isolated DC-DC converter, an important part of the AC-DC converter. This electric machine in simulations produced a similar …

The Space Rescue Professional: Operationalizing Guardians For The Future, Benjamin Johnis, Robert Bettinger, James Dean Jan 2025

The Space Rescue Professional: Operationalizing Guardians For The Future, Benjamin Johnis, Robert Bettinger, James Dean

Faculty Publications

The escalating competition in space exploration demands a dedicated space rescue capability. This article argues for the establishment of a space rescue professional (SRP) career field within the Department of Defense and the US Space Force. By harnessing existing US Air Force combat rescue expertise and partnering with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Space Force can rapidly develop a robust SRP program with the warrant officer corps as its backbone. This article addresses a critical gap in national space policy to outline a cost-effective dual-service training pipeline and SRP operational roles. Such an investment safeguards astronauts, bolsters US …
