Makara Journal of Technology

Various technological approaches have been developed in order to help those people who are unfortunate enough to be afflicted with different types of paralysis which limit them in performing their daily life activities independently. One of the proposed technologies is the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). The BCI system uses electroencephalography (EEG) which is generated by the subject’s mental activity as input, and converts it into commands. Some previous experiments have shown the capability of the BCI system to predict the movement intention before the actual movement is onset. Thus research has predicted the movement by discriminating between data in the “rest” …

Electron Beam Induced Deposition Of Highly Conductive Copper Nanowires From Bulk Liquids, Amjad M. Syam

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

Electron-beam induced deposition (EBID) is a position-controlled technique that can directly fabricate nanometer-sized structures in functional materials. In the standard process, a gaseous precursor delivers the desired substance to the substrate for deposition. However, the material purity from these precursors is typically poor, which often negatively affects the functional properties of the deposit. Recently, bulk liquid precursors have been investigated as promising reactants for high purity deposition without the need for post-processing. In this work, EBID from bulk liquids is shown to yield highly conductive nanowire deposits. Aqueous solutions containing copper sulfate (CuSO4) and sulfuric acid (H2 …

Development Of Iii-Sb Based Technologies For P-Channel Mosfet In Cmos Applications, Shailesh Kumar Madisetti Jan 2016

Development Of Iii-Sb Based Technologies For P-Channel Mosfet In Cmos Applications, Shailesh Kumar Madisetti

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

The continuous scaling of silicon CMOS predicts the end of roadmap due to the difficulties such as that arise from electrostatic integrity, design complexities, and power dissipation. These fundamental and practical limitations bring the need for innovative design architectures or alternate materials with higher carrier transport than current Si based materials. New device designs such as multigate/gate-all-around architectures improve electrostatics while alternate materials like III-Vs such as III-As for electrons and III-Sbs for holes increase operational speed, lower power dissipation and thereby improve performance of the transistors due to their low effective mass and faster transport properties. Further, application of …

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

The miniaturization of electronic devices according to Moore's Law has been propelled by the continuous demand for faster and smaller devices which continue to advance technology. One recent contribution to this trend was the isolation and characterization of one atom thick of graphite, known as graphene, which led to the Nobel Prize in physics in 2010 being awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov. Graphene and its related nanocarbon derivatives have exceptional mechanical, thermal, optical and electronic properties, making them a potential candidate for electronics and optoelectronics applications. However, this material has no intrinsic bandgap and complicated processes are required …

Beyond Conventional C-Plane Gan-Based Light Emitting Diodes: A Systematic Exploration Of Leds On Semi-Polar Orientations, Morteza Monavarian

Theses and Dissertations

Despite enormous efforts and investments, the efficiency of InGaN-based green and yellow-green light emitters remains relatively low, and that limits progress in developing full color display, laser diodes, and bright light sources for general lighting. The low efficiency of light emitting devices in the green-to-yellow spectral range, also known as the “Green Gap”, is considered a global concern in the LED industry. The polar c-plane orientation of GaN, which is the mainstay in the LED industry, suffers from polarization-induced separation of electrons and hole wavefunctions (also known as the “quantum confined Stark effect”) and low indium incorporation efficiency that …

Effect Of Fly Ash Fortification In The Manufacture Process Of Making Concrete Towards Characteristics Of Concrete In Sulfuric Acid Solution, Asep Handaya Saputra, Muhammad Shohibi, Masatoshi Kubouchi

Makara Journal of Technology

Fly ash is a silica or alumino silica material that can be used as a constituent of cement in the concrete manufacturing process. Utilization of fly ash aims to improve durability and minimize the reduction of concrete’s compressive strength exposed to an acidic environment, which can be achieved through the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash with Ca(OH)2 within concrete. The reduced content of Ca(OH)2 through pozzolanic reaction will minimize the tendency of ettringite formation (compounds that cause deterioration and decrease the compressive strength of concrete). In order to determine the relation between fly ash replenishment into concrete with concrete’s characteristics …
