In this work, we investigate heat cleaning options for high-polarization GaAs/GaAsP strained-superlattice (SSL) photocathodes with a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) that were grown using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). This was done using a microMott polarimeter at Jefferson Lab to optimize both quantum efficiency and polarization. The fabrication process for MOCVD-grown photocathodes does not allow for the inclusion of an arsenic cap, contrary to what is done when fabricating photocathodes using molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE). The interior dry snow zone region of the Greenland Ice Sheet can no longer be confidently considered a reliably melt-free region, yet our ability to investigate and quantify the dynamic nature of this landscape is hindered by its remoteness. To overcome this challenge, this work describes a novel, low-cost, low-power GNSS (positioning) instrument that enables simultaneous measurements of (1) ice accumulation/ablation changes and (2) 3D ice flow. Deployed in a dense array, these GNSS instruments achieve similar performance to scientific-grade, commercial options (cm- to mm- precision), yet operate at < 60% of the power and < 34% of the hardware cost. Over a three year campaign, we analyze spatial and temporal patterns of accumulation in this region, using a technique called GNSS interferometric reflectometry (GNSS-IR). Observations with this technique show low bias and high precision relative to a validation study (-2.1 ± 2.9 cm), while we also demonstrate for the first time how GNSS-IR can reveal cm- to m- scale surface roughness, a critical yet often neglected measurement due to longstanding observational challenges. Patterns of accumulation show a spatial dependence linked to surface slope (~+0.7 mm w.e. km^-1 westward away from the divide) while surface roughness has a temporal dependence likely driven by wintertime high winds. Next, we combine GNSS-IR surface heights with the geodetic position time series of the antenna to derive surface elevation changes, which are compared to coincident ICESat-2 laser altimetry elevations. Observations of the surface show a millimeter-level relative bias and cm-level precision (-0.9 ± 3.8 cm) compared with the satellite altimeter, demonstrating for the first time that this technique is a viable ground-truthing method, while ICESat-2 performance has continued to exceed mission performance requirements. Finally, we examine station positioning through time to show a sensitivity to dynamic ice thinning and firn densification, two parameters than cannot be finely observed with space-based methods in this region. Together, these results provide the first ground‑based, high‑resolution picture of interior ice‑sheet change—capturing accumulation, roughness, surface elevation, and strain in one unified dataset. Our approach dramatically lowers logistical barriers, opening the interior of Greenland (and other remote regions) to sustained, quantitative monitoring at unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution.

This newly emerging blockchain-aided IoT (BIoT) network has been applied to a great deal of security-related applications. However, the BIoT still has the vulnerability that can be exploited by attackers, potentially impairing the performance of BIoT applications. Despite this, research addressing the vulnerability has been limited. This work presents four studies aimed at addressing critical gaps in current BIoT research.

The proposed converters in this dissertation are suitable candidates for connecting low voltage sources such as photovoltaic (PV) panels or fuel cell (FC) stacks to a DC microgrid or DC link of an inverter. The Input/Output Buffer Information Specification (IBIS) model faces challenges in accurately simulating power-supply-induced jitter (PSIJ), particularly under nonlinear and time-varying power noise conditions with pre-driver stages. This work introduces advancements in IBIS model modification algorithms to enhance PSIJ simulation accuracy for high-speed drivers.
First, a correction coefficient-based approach was developed to adjust switching coefficients K_pu and K_pd using pre-driver DC jitter sensitivity, significantly improving model robustness under DC and AC power noise. However, its effectiveness diminished under large noise amplitudes due to coefficient shape dominance.

An approach to scalable surface-drifting buoys is needed to enable the high spatial and temporal resolution of oceanographic data that the science and meteorological communities are asking for. With the number of active buoys predicted to increase by a factor of 100 or more, the impact on the environment becomes even more important. Here, we present a pathway to a scalable and sustainable generation of buoys. This work demonstrates four grid service use cases using a service-oriented DER Management System within an Energy Grid of Things network. Imposed by a set of rules referred to as the Energy Service Interface, the DER Management System uses IEEE 2030.5 as its primary communication protocol. To simulate the efforts of Grid Operators, Grid Service Providers, and consumers to provide grid services, a co-simulation environment that leverages the GridAPPS-D simulation platform was developed. We present two methods for estimating compressor electric power consumption of residential heat pump water heaters. Power is calculated using data from voltage and current instrumentation, which add costs and potential failure points to the unit. The two methods presented herein use thermal instrumentation or derived data that are typically included within modern residential heat pump water heaters. One method uses data from lower and upper tank temperature sensors. The other method uses an attribute that is commonly available within grid-enabled flexible load heat pump water heaters. This study presents a novel point-of-care electrochemical sensor for dopamine (DA) detection, featuring a flexible laser-induced graphene (LIG) modified with a unique nanocomposite comprising Nb4C3Tx MXene, polypyrrole (PPy), and iron nanoparticles (FeNPs). The LIG-Nb4C3Tx MXene-PPy-FeNPs is characterized by scanning electron microscopy to confirm the successful surface modification. The electrochemical performance of the fabricated sensor via cyclic voltammetry showed significant electrochemical activity upon Nb4C3Tx MXene-PPy-FeNPs nanocomposite modification of the LIG surface with an increased peak anodic current (Ipa) from 43 μA to 104 μA. The objective of this research was to investigate the reaction of hydrogen and heated air premixing when injected into a combusting ethylene-air crossflow, and to study the flame stabilization location with varying premixing levels. The main parameter of this investigation was the flame stabilization diagnosed through chemiluminescence, based on recorded equivalence ratio, temperature, and flame boundaries, and maintaining a constant air temperature, hydrogen and air mass flow, and momentum flux ratios. Seismocardiography (SCG), the measurement of cardiac-induced vibrations at the chest surface, has shown potential clinical utility. Safe control of human-in-the-loop (HIL) robotic manipulators is critical for applications such as assistive robotics, teleoperation in hazardous environments, and collaborative manufacturing. However, this remains challenging due to the lack of a unified framework that simultaneously addresses safety constraints, external disturbances, unmodeled dynamics, and dynamic role switching in the HIL setting. In this paper, we propose a novel NN-driven HIL control framework in which human–robot dyadic interaction occurs through the haptic channel. This study focuses on harnessing the potential of the single mode-multimode-single mode (SMS) structure as a robust avenue for developing simple, compact, and cost-effective bright and dark pulsed erbium-doped fiber lasers (EDFLs).
