This Thesis reports the design, simulation, and layout of a switching power supply controller chip for a fly-back switching power supply. The controller chip was designed using ON’s Semiconductor C5 process. The resulting switching power supply using the controller chip consists of using various off-chip components such as a power MOSFET, transformer, and capacitors. The main components used in the integrated circuit include a bandgap reference voltage circuit which outputs a reference voltage of 1.25V, a ring oscillator having a nominal frequency of 5MHz, a high-gain comparator, and a buffer that can drive a 5pF capacitor. Lattice-based cryptography is a cryptographic primitive built upon the hard problems on point lattices. Cryptosystems relying on lattice-based cryptography have attracted huge attention in the last decade since they have post-quantum-resistant security and the remarkable construction of the algorithm. An original design and photolithographic fabrication process for poly(3-hexylthiophene-2, 5-diyl) (P3HT) based organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) is presented. The structure of the transistors was based on the bottom gate bottom contact OTFT. The fabrication process was efficient, cost-effective, and relatively straightforward to implement. Current–voltage (I-V) measurements were performed to characterize the primary electronic properties of the transistors. The measured mobility of these transistors was significantly higher than most results reported in the literature for other similar bottom gate bottom contact P3HT OTFTs. Permanently installed distributed downhole pressure sensors could monitor fracture propagation, assess the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing, and optimize hydraulic fracturing placement so that overall UOG recovery efficiency can be increased. Commercialization of Perovskite solar cells as a clean energy source can augment the reduction of carbon footprint. CsPbI3, a well-known perovskite material, has been synthesized in ambient air and high-humidity conditions and utilized as the active layer in a perovskite solar cell. The rest of the solar cell layers have been sputter-deposited. This solar cell with a p-i-n configuration ITO/NiOx/CsPbI3/ZnO/Au exhibited a champion efficiency of 3.7%. Computerized obstacle detection for moving vehicles is becoming more important as vehicle manufacturers make their systems more autonomous and safe. However, obstacle detection must operate quickly in dynamic environments such as driving at highway speeds. A unique obstacle detection system using 3D changes in the environment is proposed. Furthermore, these 3D changes are shown to contain sufficient information for avoiding obstacles. To make the system easy to integrate onto a vehicle, additional processing is implemented to remove unnecessary dependencies. This system provides a method for obstacle detection that breaks away from typical systems to be more efficient.

Mission planners for manned and unmanned aircraft operating within the detection range of ground-based radar systems are often concerned with the probability of detection. Several factors influence the probability of detection, including aircraft position and orientation, radar position, and radar performance parameters. The features of the speech signals can be extracted and reconstructed to lower the Internet traffic of the acoustic artificial agents and to increase the quality of the automatic speech recognition systems. This research investigates an approach to improve efficiency of low-cost devices by applying an external arched magnetic field to p-n junction devices to observe the effect such a magnetic field would have on the flow of charge carriers. Electro-optic p-n junction devices of photodiodes and solar cells were designed and fabricated to incorporate the dimensions of commercially available neodymium magnets. The devices were placed in the magnetic fields created by the magnets then current and voltage characteristics were measured via a 4-point probe setup. This research investigates how heat transfer theory can be applied to evaluate the thermal performance of printed circuit board (PCB) designs. A model was developed for correlating theory to the physical parameters relating to the construction of the PCB and a computer application was developed to perform the thermal analysis. The application allows the importation of common PCB design files for a straightforward and quick analysis of a PCB design’s thermal performance. The application is open-source to allows for further development and free access from the public.

Metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) is a popularly used method of growing thin films of GaN on ZnO (GZ) substrates, which pair well due to their structural and characteristic similarities. In this research, optical characterization of the surface quality of GZ sample films is measured by analyzing Raman scattering (RS) using a Renishaw inVia spectrometer fitted with a 532nm laser. Samples were grown in an improved double injection block rotating disc reactor. For this study, we propose a Dynamic Perimeter Movement system that has a user-operated UAV to identify GPS coordinate points using land markers such as April Tags. These markers would be used to identify the perimeter of a road work zone. Once the work zone is determined, autonomous robotic traffic cones would disperse to position themselves around the perimeter determined by coordinate points. As the work zone progresses the UAV would periodically update the perimeter to reposition robotic traffic cones. These traffic cones will operate using a Pure Pursuit system as a means to navigate.

Expanding the usage of renewable energy in islanded microgrids leads to a reduction in its total inertia. Low inertia microgrids have difficulties in voltage and frequency control. That affected saving its stability and preventing a blackout. To improve low inertia islanded microgrids' dynamic response and save their stability, this paper presented relative rate observer self-tuning fuzzy PID (RROSTF-PID) based on virtual inertia control (VIC) for an islanded microgrid with a high renewable energy sources (RESs) contribution. Though dynamic operation of chemical processes has been extensively explored theoretically in contexts such as economic model predictive control or even considering the potential for cyberattacks on control systems creating non-standard operating policies, important practical questions remain regarding dynamic operation. Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are considered as one of the most promising next-generation electrochemical energy storage systems owing to their high-power density, environmental benign, intrinsic safety, and the low cost of the abundant zinc resources. A newly developed, near real-time, well-performing and potentially universally applicable Automatic Modulation Recognition (AMR) technique for discrimination of numerous modern modulated waveforms found in commercial as well as military communication systems applicable to the new Air Force’s Advanced Battle Management & Surveillance (ABMS) framework as well as Versatile Depot Automatic Test Station (VDATS) Test Program Set (TPS) development is presented. It involves generating complex feature vectors composed of High-Order Direct Cumulant, Cyclostationary and Fourier of Wavelet Transform features created with the help of Principal Component Analysis and Variance Data Compression.
