Through system modeling with electronic circuits, two circuits were constructed that exhibit chaos over a wide ranges of initial conditions. The two circuits were one that modeled an algebraically simple “jerk” function and a resistor-inductor-diode (RLD) circuit where the diode was reverse-biased on the positive voltage cycle of the alternating current source. Using simulation data from other experiments, the waveforms, bifurcation plots, and phase space plots of the concrete circuit were verified. This paper demonstrates the acquisition of advanced circuit board performance parameters from breakaway test coupons measured right at the PCB fabricator. We show how to acquire S-parameter and TDR-based measurements up to 30 GHz using robust probes and test coupon fixtures. The measurements provide pass/fail tests for process control and they provide model parameters as feedback to improve channel design. By way of example, we demonstrate measurements of several representative test coupons, perform total loss tests, such as SET2DIL, and extract design parameters that can be used to improve EDA channel models. "The Modulated Scatterer Technique (MST) has shown promise for applications in microwave imaging, electric field mapping, and materials characterization. Traditionally, MST scatterers consist of dipole antennas centrally loaded with a lumped element capable of modulation (commonly a PIN diode). By modulating the load element, the signal scattered from the MST scatterer is also modulated. However, due to the small size of such scatterers, it can be difficult to reliably detect the modulated signal. "A new concept, the microwave-assisted reconstruction of an optical interferogram for distributed sensing, was developed to resolve both the position and reflectivity of each sensor along an optical fiber. This approach involves sending a microwave-modulated optical signal through cascaded fiber optic interferometers. The optical spectrum of each sensor can be reconstructed by sweeping the optical wavelength and detecting the modulation signal. A series of cascaded fiber optic extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometric sensors was used to prove the concept. The microwave-reconstructed interferogram matched well with those recorded individually from a traditional optical spectrometer. Previous work has shown that high-temperature short-term spike thermal annealing of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems results in higher electrical energy output. The relationship between temperature and performance of a-Si:H PVT is not simple as high temperatures during thermal annealing improves the immediate electrical performance following an anneal, but during the anneal it creates a marked drop in electrical performance. In addition, the power generation of a-Si:H PVT depends on both the environmental conditions and the Staebler-Wronski Effect kinetics. Use of the complex-envelope (CE) representation of band-pass limited sources and their resulting fields increases the allowable time-step in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations. The complex envelope representation transforms band-pass limited fields and sources to complex-valued low-pass limited form and Maxwells equations from real-valued partial differential equations (PDEs) to complex-valued PDEs. Previous CE FDTD schemes have used complex valued difference equations in terms of complex valued field quantities to approximate these complex PDEs.
