A Data-Aware Write-Assist 10t Sram Cell With Bit-Interleaving Capability, Shivram Mansore, Radheshyam Gamad
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Cell stability is becoming an important design concern as process technology continues to scale down. In this paper, we present a single-ended 10T SRAM cell that improves simultaneously both read static noise margin (RSNM) and write static noise margin (WSNM) by employing separate read buffer and power gating transistors, respectively. The cross-point write structure of the proposed cell facilitates bit-interleaved architecture to enhance soft-error immunity. Simulation is done on $65$-nm CMOS technology on Cadence. Simulation results show that the RSNM of the proposed SRAM cell is 2.78 times and 1.47 times higher than those of the conventional 6T and Schmitt …

Method Of Singular Integral Equations In Diffraction By Semiinfinite Grating E-Polarization Case, Mstislav Kaliberda, Leonid Lytvynenko, Sergey Pogarsky
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Diffraction of the E-polarized electromagnetic wave by a semiinfinite strip grating is considered. The scattered field is represented as a superposition of the field induced by the currents on the strips of an infinite periodic grating and the field induced by the correction current excited due to end of the grating. A singular integral equation with additional conditions for correction current density is obtained. A solution for the infinite periodic grating in the E-polarization case is obtained from the corresponding solution for the H-polarization case using the duality principle. Numerical results for the current density and far fields distribution are …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Ferrite cores 50 mm long were formed from large ferrite tubes obtained using fine Mn-Zn ferrite powder (M-30-IHIS) extruded and sintered at 1280 $^{\circ}$C for 2 h. Core impedance was measured in the HF range (0.1--100 MHz), varying the number of coil turns and DC bias. Characteristic parameters such as maximum of impedance Z$_m$, frequency of maximum impedance F$_m$, and suppressing range f around F$_m$ were determined for each configuration. The analyzed ferrite cores were tested as round cable suppressors in the impulse regime. Impulses were generated by MOSFET transistor switching of high currents (1--10 A). The number of turns, …

Beveled-Shaped Super-Wideband Planar Antenna, Umair Rafique, Sami Ud Din
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this paper, a design of beveled-shaped planar antenna has been presented for super-wideband applications. The proposed antenna consists of a beveled-shaped radiator, a tapered microstrip feed line, a partial ground plane and two ground planes on the top side of the substrate. The top ground planes are used to match the impedance at lower frequencies and to minimize spurious radiations caused by the feed line. A tapered feed line has been utilized to enhance the overall bandwidth of an antenna. It has been observed from results that a ratio bandwidth of 66.6:1 has been achieved from 0.3 to 20 …

Secure Access Control In Multidomain Environments And Formal Analysis Of Model Specifications, Fatemeh Nazerian, Homayun Motameni, Hossein Nematzadeh
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Distributed multiple organizations interact with each other. If the domains employ role-based access control, one method for interaction between domains is role-mapping. However, it may violate constraints in the domains such as role hierarchy, separation of duty, and cardinality. Therefore, autonomy of the domains is lost. This paper proposes secure interoperation in multidomain environments. For this purpose, a cross-domain is created by foreign permission assignment. In an effort to maintain the autonomy of every domain, several rules are defined formally. Then, a decentralized scheme is used to provide permission mapping between domains. At the next stage, the proposed cross-domain is …

Q-Axis Current Perturbation Based Active Islanding Detection For Converter Interfaced Distributed Generators, Suman Murugesan, Venkatakirthiga Murali
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Thanks to the incessant developments in technology towards extracting electric power from renewable energy resources, incorporation of distributed generators has been gaining great importance in recent years. The key expedients for such power generation include reduction in power loss and improvement in the power quality and reliability. In spite of the numerous advantages, it is mandatory to ascertain the island formation and shut down the distributed generators (DGs) during an unplanned islanding. An analyzing technique subsequent to an active islanding detection technique is proposed in this work for faster and accurate detection of island formation. The proposed technique is investigated …

Estimation Of The Depth Of Anesthesia By Using A Multioutput Least-Square Support Vector Regression, Mercedeh Jahanseir, Kamal Setarehdan, Sirous Momenzadeh
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Today, most surgeries are performed under general anesthesia where one of the most growing methods for anesthesia depth monitoring is using electroencephalogram (EEG). The bispectral index (BIS) is the most commonly used parameter for anesthesia depth monitoring using EEG, the validity of which is still to be studied before being accepted as a routine method by clinicians. This paper proposes a new technique for detecting the depth of anesthesia by means of EEG, which is based on multioutput least-squares support vector regression (MLS-SVR), which provides the probability that the patient is in the four different possible anesthesia states. In this …

In recent neuroimaging research, there has been considerable interest in identifying neuromarkers of sleep. Automatic slow wave sleep (SWS) and rapid eye movement (REM) are two known phases of sleep. However, the level by which those changes contribute to brain interactions has not been well characterized. In recent years, it has been shown that brain connectivity measuring can be helpful in investigation of behavioral states of the brain. By considering the fact that brains have different states in different stages of sleep, the present work employs effective connectivity and machine-learning analysis to quantify and classify SWS and REM stages of …

An Adaptive Machine Learning-Based Qoe Approach In Sdn Context For Video-Streaming Services, Asma Ben Letaifa
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In data service applications over the Internet, user perception and satisfaction can be assessed by quality of experience (QoE) metrics. QoE depends both on the users' perception and the used service, which together form end-to-end metrics. While network optimization has traditionally focused on optimizing network properties such as QoS, we focus in this work on optimizing end-to-end QoE metrics with the aim to deliver to the client a good QoE that can be monitored in real time. We argue that end-user QoE is a relevant measurement for network operators and service providers. In this paper, we present a machine learning …

Dynamic Liquid Level Detection Method Based On Resonant Frequency Difference For Oil Wells, Wei Zhou, Juan Liu, Liqun Gan
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The dynamic liquid level of an oil well can be used to determine the oil production strategies and analyze the reservoir performance. Therefore, it is important to measure the dynamic liquid level in an oil field. This paper proposes a novel dynamic liquid level measurement method for oil wells, where the resonant frequency difference (RFD) of the resonant acoustic signal in annular is used to calculate the dynamic liquid level. To solve the noise interference problem in the resonant acoustic signal, a spectral fast Fourier transform (FFT) method based on Welch power spectrum is proposed to obtain the RFD. First, …

Influence Of Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor On Wheeling Cost Incorporating The Impact Of Real And Reactive Power Losses, Kranthi Kiran Irinjila, Jaya Laxmi Askani
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Electric power transmission and transmission pricing are the key issues in the deregulated electric power industry. Factors like fast power demand growth, competition, service outage, and scarce natural resources make transmission systems operate close to their thermal limits. However, new transmission systems cannot be built in due to economic, environmental, and political reasons. For better utilization of existing power system capacities, the power electronic technology-based power system equipment called flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices like thyristor-controlled series compensators (TCSCs) can be effectively used for operating the transmission grid economically, rapidly, dynamically, and efficiently with increased flexibility and efficiency …

Estimation Of Speed, Armature Temperature, And Resistance In Brushed Dc Machines Using A Cfnn Based On Bfgs Bp, Hacene Mellah, Kamel Eddine Hemsas, Rachid Taleb, Carlo Cecati
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this paper, a sensorless speed and armature resistance and temperature estimator for brushed (B) DC machines is proposed, based on a cascade-forward neural network and quasi-Newton BFGS backpropagation. Since we wish to avoid the use of a thermal sensor, a thermal model is needed to estimate the temperature of the BDC machine. Previous studies propose either nonintelligent estimators that depend on the model, such as the extended Kalman filter and Luenberger's observer, or estimators that do not estimate the speed, temperature, and resistance simultaneously. The proposed method has been verified both by simulation and by comparison with the simulation …

New Optimization Algorithm Inspired By Fluid Mechanics For Combined Economic And Emission Dispatch Problem, Ruyi Dong, Shengsheng Wang
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
With the increasing concern over environmental protection, the combined economic emission dispatch (CEED) problem has received much attention. It needs to minimize both fuel cost and emission pollution. This study aims to propose a new metaheuristic algorithm inspired by fluid mechanics to solve the CEED problem with the weighted sum method. The new algorithm simulates the inverse process of fluid flowing spontaneously from high pressure to low pressure, similar to the optimization process of the CEED problem. When applied in two real-world cases, the new algorithm achieves better performance compared with other algorithms in the literature.

Efficiency of solar photovoltaic generation plants depends not only on internal operational conditions but also on external atmospheric conditions. Total efficiency is in uenced by various weather conditions such as cloudiness, temperature, and irradiation. In order to generate maximum energy, photovoltaic (PV) arrays should be operated at their maximum power point (MPP), varying external factors like partial shading and surface temperature and amount of radiation coming from the sun. In modern PV systems, maximum power point trackers (MPPTs) have been used in order to reach the MPP, changing with the factors given above. MPPT units are implemented to control DC-DC …

Automated Testing For Distributed Databases With Fuzzy Fragment Reallocation, Akhan Akbulut, Gözde Karataş
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
As the Internet and big data become more widespread, relational database management systems (RDBMSs) become increasingly inadequate for web applications. To provide what RDBMSs cannot, during the past 15 years distributed database systems (DDBSs) have thus emerged. However, given the complicated structure of these systems, the methods used to validate the efficiency of databases, all towards ensuring quality and security, have become diversified. In response, this paper demonstrates a system for performing automated testing with DDBSs, given that testing is significant in software verification and that accredited systems are more productive in business environments. The proposed system applies several tests …
A New Method For Detecting Jittered Pri In Histogram-Based Methods, Mostafa Bagheri, Mohammad Hossein Sedaaghi
A New Method For Detecting Jittered Pri In Histogram-Based Methods, Mostafa Bagheri, Mohammad Hossein Sedaaghi
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Histogram-based methods are among the best methods for deinterleaving, because of their easy implementation. However, they have a basic defect when they encounter a jittered pulse repetition interval (PRI). Jittered PRI is one of the most sophisticated patterns for electronic warfare (EW) receivers. In jittered PRI, the time among successive pulses varies in a totally random manner; thus its detection is very complicated. In this paper we present a new method for extracting jittered PRI from histogram-based methods. Simulation results demonstrate excellent performance of the proposed method in normal as well as hard circumstances where a higher missing pulse rate …
Laser Printer As A Source Of Sensitive Emissions, Ireneusz Kubiak
Laser Printer As A Source Of Sensitive Emissions, Ireneusz Kubiak
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Each electronic (electric) device generates electromagnetic emissions during its operation. Most often these emissions are generated unintentionally and they are radiated into the surrounding space in an uncontrolled way. In the case of significant levels of these emissions, they can disturb the operation of other devices or can be used as typical radio emissions. If the nature of their changes corresponds to the processed information occurring in a form of electric signals, the mentioned emissions can be a basis for effective realization of electromagnetic infiltration processes. Most often, these emissions are classified in laboratory conditions using anechoic chambers. Inside such …

Optimization Of Large Electric Power Distribution Using A Parallel Genetic Algorithm With Dandelion Strategy, Jorge Sabattin, Guillermo Fuertes, Miguel Alfaro, Luis Quezada, Manuel Vargas
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The study of electrical distribution of primary networks design is oriented to reduce the construction costs and the energy losses by transmission. The topology for the implementation of distribution networks may vary according to the geographical characteristics of the final users and requires specialized optimization solutions with metaheuristics to improve the energy performance of the electrical power systems. A parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) is proposed to optimize a tree-based topology for large-scale electric power distribution networks. The proposed PGA uses the dandelion code, which allows obtaining tree-feasible solutions within each iteration of the PGA. This cannot be achieved with other …

A Matched E-H Plane T-Junction For X-Band Applications, Ashmi Chakraborty Das, Santanu Dwari, Amit Bage
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
This paper presents a method of moment-based analysis of an E-H plane T-junction to find its scattering parameters. The results show that the network is not matched at its ports. Therefore, matching networks have been included in the structure to establish matching at the ports. The matching structure includes an inductive window at the H-plane arm and a bisected funnel structure at the junction. Results of the modified structure show simultaneous matching at all the four ports at 9 GHz, which makes it suitable for X-band application.
L-Index Based Contingency Filtering For Voltage Stability Constrained Reactive Power Planning, Farid Karbalaei, Shahriar Abbasi
L-Index Based Contingency Filtering For Voltage Stability Constrained Reactive Power Planning, Farid Karbalaei, Shahriar Abbasi
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
One of the most important objectives in reactive power planning (RPP) is maintaining required voltage stability margin under normal and single-contingency situations. For this, an optimization problem must be formulated considering N-1 contingencies constrained for a set of predetermined contingencies. Traditionally, all these contingencies must simultaneously be addressed in the optimization problem. This can dramatically increase the problem dimension and decrease the convergence ability of its solution for large scale applications. This paper uses an L-index based contingency filtering strategy to select a small number of contingencies to be addressed in RPP problem. For this, the predetermined set of all …

Anomaly Inference Based On Heterogeneous Data Sources In An Electrical Distribution System, Yachen Tang
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Harnessing the heterogeneous data sets would improve system observability. While the current metering infrastructure in distribution network has been utilized for the operational purpose to tackle abnormal events, such as weather-related disturbance, the new normal we face today can be at a greater magnitude. Strengthening the inter-dependencies as well as incorporating new crowd-sourced information can enhance operational aspects such as system reconfigurability under extreme conditions. Such resilience is crucial to the recovery of any catastrophic events. In this dissertation, it is focused on the anomaly of potential foul play within an electrical distribution system, both primary and secondary networks as …

Extending Maneuverability Of Internally Actuated Underwater Gliders, An Attempt To Develop An Open Platform For Research And Education, Saeedeh Ziaeefard
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Increasing maneuverability of internally actuated Underwater Gliders (UGs) is inevitable due to high demands in underwater surveillance and reconnaissance missions where agility and stealthiness are the keys to success. High maneuverability is needed to provide the opportunity for optimal trajectory planning, planar motion smoothness, and re-planning adapting to the dynamic environments.
This work explores extending the maneuverability of underwater gliders through coupled improvement in mechanical design, efficient use of internal actuation, and motion planning strategy utilizing flight concatenation. The existence of five flight patterns ``advanced flight", inspired by air gliders, enabled solely by utilizing internal actuation are investigated: Circle, Oval …
