Hardware Trojan Detection Via Golden Reference Library Matching, Lucas Weaver
Hardware Trojan Detection Via Golden Reference Library Matching, Lucas Weaver
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Due to the proliferation of hardware Trojans in third party Intellectual Property (IP) designs, the issue of hardware security has risen to the forefront of computer engineering. Because of the miniscule size yet devastating effects of hardware Trojans, few detection methods have been presented that adequately address this problem facing the hardware industry. One such method with the ability to detect hardware Trojans is Structural Checking. This methodology analyzes a soft IP at the register-transfer level to discover malicious inclusions. An extension of this methodology is presented that expands the list of signal functionalities, termed assets, in addition to introducing …

The configuration of a system determines the system behavior and wrong configuration settings can adversely impact system's availability, performance, and correctness. We refer to these wrong configuration settings as configuration bugs. The importance of configuration bugs has prompted many researchers to study it, and past studies can be grouped into three categories: detection, localization, and fixing of configuration bugs. In the work, we focus on the detection of configuration bugs, in particular, we follow the line-of-work that tries to predict if a bug report is caused by a wrong configuration setting. Automatically prediction of whether a bug is a configuration …

Conceptual Design Of Sleeve Rotor Synchronous Reluctance Motor For Traction Applications, Patel B. Reddy, Kevin Grace, Ayman M. El-Refaie
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research and Publications
Synchronous reluctance machines are very appealing for high speed traction motor design due to their robustness, simple structure, absence of magnets, and simple control. The absence of magnets means that synchronous reluctance (SynRel) machines are not susceptible to price variability and sustainability of rare-earth materials. Moreover, there are no concerns about demagnetisation or uncontrolled generation mode. However, the challenge of achieving a good constant power to speed ratio is dependent on the mechanical aspects of the design. Conventional SynRel designs perform poorly compared with the permanent magnet machines due to the presence of bridges and/or centre posts in absence of …

Ground Vehicle Platooning Control And Sensing In An Adversarial Environment, Samuel A. Mitchell
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In the past few years, automated cars have ceased to be part of science fiction, and have instead become a technology that has been implemented, with partially automated systems currently available to customers.
One benefit of automated vehicle technology is the consistent driving patterns due to automation, instead of the inconsistency of distractible humans. Passengers of automated vehicles will be exposed to much less danger than the passengers of human-driven vehicles.
These statements will only be true as automated vehicle systems are scrutinized by experts to find flaws in the system. Security enthusiasts have already hijacked control of an automated …

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
There has been a reduction in funding for theoretical and applied research for improving the nation's database of continuous neutron cross-sections at BNL-NNDC. From 1940 through the late 1980s, research and applied development produced volumes of reliable neutron continuous cross-sections for many isotopes. Currently, the cross-section work has been mainly computational. The focus of this research is mainly centered on the requirements for improving thermal cross-sections to support reactor operations and fuel storage. The research efforts will also helpfully aid in the fast fission spectrum in order to support fast reactor designs for improving safety analysis and feedback coefficients.

A Hybrid Key Management Scheme For Wsns Based On Ppbr And A Tree-Based Path Key Establishment Method, Ying Zhang, Jixing Liang, Bingxin Zheng, Wei Chen
Computer Science Faculty Research
With the development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), in most application scenarios traditional WSNs with static sink nodes will be gradually replaced by Mobile Sinks (MSs), and the corresponding application requires a secure communication environment. Current key management researches pay less attention to the security of sensor networks with MS. This paper proposes a hybrid key management schemes based on a Polynomial Pool-based key pre-distribution and Basic Random key pre-distribution (PPBR) to be used in WSNs with MS. The scheme takes full advantages of these two kinds of methods to improve the cracking difficulty of the key system. The storage …

Design Exploration And Application Of Reversible Circuits In Emerging Technologies, Saurabh Kotiyal
Design Exploration And Application Of Reversible Circuits In Emerging Technologies, Saurabh Kotiyal
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The reversible logic has promising applications in emerging computing paradigms, such as quantum computing, quantum dot cellular automata, optical computing, etc. In reversible logic gates, there is a unique one-to-one mapping between the inputs and outputs. To generate a useful gate function, the reversible gates require some constant ancillary inputs called ancilla inputs. Also to maintain the reversibility of the circuits some additional unused outputs are required that are referred to as the garbage outputs. The number of ancilla inputs, the number of garbage outputs and quantum cost plays an important role in the evaluation of reversible circuits. Thus minimizing …

To demonstrate our work, we have implemented a secure temperature monitoring system that makes use of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, AES-128 hardware encryption and TelosB sensor nodes. In our design, we consider one of the nodes to be a coordinator node, which plays the role of a central node that establishes network association requests, listens for incoming packets, decrypts the incoming packets and forwards any received packets to the monitoring device. Three other nodes act as end-devices, which play the role of collecting temperature measurements, encrypting the collected data and sending the encrypted packets to the coordinator node. A last …

Diffractive Propagation And Recovery Of Modulated (Including Chaotic) Electromagnetic Waves Through Uniform Atmosphere And Modified Von Karman Phase Turbulence, Monish Ranjan Chatterjee, Fathi H.A. Mohamed
Diffractive Propagation And Recovery Of Modulated (Including Chaotic) Electromagnetic Waves Through Uniform Atmosphere And Modified Von Karman Phase Turbulence, Monish Ranjan Chatterjee, Fathi H.A. Mohamed
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
In a parallel approach to recently-used transfer function formalism, a study involving diffraction of modulated electromagnetic (EM) waves through uniform and phase-turbulent atmospheres is reported in this paper. Specifically, the input wave is treated as a modulated optical carrier, represented by use of a sinusoidal phasor with a slowly timevarying envelope. Using phasors and (spatial) Fourier transforms, the complex phasor wave is transmitted across a uniform or turbulent medium using the Kirchhoff-Fresnel integral and the random phase screen.
Some preliminary results are presented comparing non-chaotic and chaotic information transmission through turbulence, outlining possible improvement in performance utilizing the robust features …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Differential tilt variance is a useful metric for interpreting the distorting effects of turbulence in incoherent imaging systems. In this paper, we compare the theoretical model of differential tilt variance to simulations. Simulation is based on a Monte Carlo wave optics approach with split step propagation. Results show that the simulation closely matches theory. The results also show that care must be taken when selecting a method to estimate tilts.

Pedestrian Detection Using Basic Polyline: A Geometric Framework For Pedestrian Detection, Liang Gongbo
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Pedestrian detection has been an active research area for computer vision in recently years. It has many applications that could improve our lives, such as video surveillance security, auto-driving assistance systems, etc. The approaches of pedestrian detection could be roughly categorized into two categories, shape-based approaches and appearance-based approaches. In the literature, most of approaches are appearance-based. Shape-based approaches are usually integrated with an appearance-based approach to speed up a detection process.
In this thesis, I propose a shape-based pedestrian detection framework using the geometric features of human to detect pedestrians. This framework includes three main steps. Give a static …

Representation And Control Of Coordinated-Motion Tasks For Human-Robot Systems, Hyungju Andy Park
Representation And Control Of Coordinated-Motion Tasks For Human-Robot Systems, Hyungju Andy Park
Open Access Dissertations
It is challenging for robots to perform various tasks in a human environment. This is because many human-centered tasks require coordination in both hands and may often involve cooperation with another human. Although human-centered tasks require different types of coordinated movements, most of the existing methodologies have focused only on specific types of coordination. This thesis aims at the description and control of coordinated-motion tasks for human-robot systems; i.e., humanoid robots as well as multi-robot and human-robot systems.
First, for bimanually coordinated-motion tasks in dual-manipulator systems, we propose the Extended-Cooperative-Task-Space (ECTS) representation, which extends the existing Cooperative-Task-Space (CTS) representation based …
