In this paper, we seek to identify an effective management policy that could reduce supply-demand gaps at taxi queues serving high-density locations where demand surges frequently happen. Unlike current industry practice, which relies on broadcasting to attract taxis to come and serve the queue, we propose more proactive and adaptive approaches to handle demand surges. Our design objective is to reduce the cumulative supply-demand gaps as much as we could by sending notifications to individual taxis. Based on eye tracking technology, we study consumers’ overall attention to recommendations appearing at different time settings (i.e., early, mid, and late) and their attention to different information contained in each recommendation, such as recommendation signs, product descriptions, and reviews. By investigating consumers’ eye movement patterns and attention distributions on recommendations, we open the “black box” of why consumers’ reception to recommendations appearing at different time settings varies. The product preference construction literature and mindset theory help to explain why the early recommendations receive the most attention. Driven by the ubiquitous proliferation of low-cost LED luminaires, visible light communication (VLC) has been established as a high-speed communications technology based on the high-frequency modulation of an optical source. In a context where users look for available products with top-�� queries, mIR identifies the part of the product space that attracts the most user attention. While PIN-based user authentication systems such as ATM have long been considered to be secure enough, they are facing new attacks, named UltraPIN, which can be launched from commodity smartphones. As a target user enters a PIN on a PIN-based user authentication system, an attacker may use UltraPIN to infer the PIN from a short distance (50 cm to 100 cm). In this process, UltraPIN leverages smartphone speakers to issue human-inaudible ultrasound signals and uses smartphone microphones to keep recording acoustic signals. Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning (HRL) enables autonomous decomposition of challenging long-horizon decision-making tasks into simpler subtasks. During the past years, the landscape of HRL research has grown profoundly, resulting in copious approaches. A comprehensive overview of this vast landscape is necessary to study HRL in an organized manner. We provide a survey of the diverse HRL approaches concerning the challenges of learning hierarchical policies, subtask discovery, transfer learning, and multi-agent learning using HRL. Widely-used Android static program analysis tools,e.g., Amandroid and FlowDroid, perform the whole-app interprocedural analysis that is comprehensive but fundamentallydifficult to handle modern (large) apps. The average app size hasincreased three to four times over five years. Modeling vessel movement in a maritime environment is an extremely challenging task given the complex nature of vessel behavior. Several existing multiagent maritime decision making frameworks require access to an accurate traffic simulator. We develop a system using electronic navigation charts to generate realistic and high fidelity vessel traffic data using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Our proposed Ship-GAN uses a conditional Wasserstein GAN to model a vessel’s behavior. The generator can simulate the travel time of vessels across different maritime zones conditioned on vessels’ speeds and traffic intensity. This article conducts user evaluation to study the performance difference between interactive and automatic search. Particularly, the study aims to provide empirical insights of how the performance landscape of video search changes, with tens of thousands of concept detectors freely available to exploit for query formulation. We compare three types of search modes: free-to-play (i.e., search from scratch), non-free-to-play (i.e., search by inspecting results provided by automatic search), and automatic search including concept-free and concept-based retrieval paradigms. News search tools help end users to identify relevant news stories. However, existing search approaches often carry out in a "black-box" process. There is little intuition that helps users understand how the results are related to the query. In this paper, we propose a novel news search framework, called NEWSLINK, to empower intuitive news search by using relationship paths discovered from open Knowledge Graphs (KGs). The hash table is a fundamental structure that has been implemented on graphics processing units (GPUs) to accelerate a wide range of analytics workloads. Most existing works have focused on static scenarios and occupy large GPU memory to maximize the insertion efficiency. In many cases, data stored in hash tables get updated dynamically, and existing approaches use unnecessarily large memory resources. In this paper, we study the problem of efficient motif-based graph partitioning (MGP). We observe that existing methods require to enumerate all motif instances to compute the exact edge weights for partitioning. However, the enumeration is prohibitively expensive against large graphs. We thus propose a sampling-based MGP (SMGP) framework that employs an unbiased sampling mechanism to efficiently estimate the edge weights while trying to preserve the partitioning quality. To further improve the effectiveness, we propose a novel adaptive sampling framework called SMGP+. However, little is known about how wheelchair users move about and engage in social interactions within their life-spaces. In this project, we investigate the social participation performance of the wheelchair users based on a combination of geolocational and lifestyle survey data collected over a period of three months. We explore the feasibility of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) communication through vibrations over human skin. Using off-the-shelf motors and piezo transducers as vibration transmitters and receivers, respectively, we build a 2x2 MIMO testbed to collect and analyze vibration signals from real subjects. Our analysis reveals that there exist multiple independent vibration channels between a pair of transmitter and receiver, confirming the feasibility of MIMO. Unfortunately, the slow ramping of mechanical motors and rapidly changing skin channels make it impractical for conventional channel sounding based channel state information (CSI) acquisition, which is critical for achieving MIMO capacity gains.
