In order to ensure the safe,efficient,and economical completion of the construction of the high pile tied beam of Muping Xiangjiang River Bridge in deep water,a new type of single-wall steel suspended box cofferdam was designed to act as the water retaining and enclosure structure during high pile tied beam construction according to the characteristics of deep water level and shallow stratum cover layer at the high pile tied beam location.Through the innovative design of steel casing on the bottom of the steel suspended box cofferdam,the design height of the wall panel and the amount of steel input were reduced.On the …

There are many factors that affect the carbonization life of concrete segments in underwater tunnels,and the prediction methods are not uniform.In this paper,combined with actual engineering,the influencing factors and laws of carbonization of concrete segments in underwater tunnels were analyzed,and three methods for predicting the life of concrete segments were established with the crack limit as the control target.The prediction results of the three methods were compared.The results show that the influence of the temperature and CO2 concentration in the tunnel predicted by the three methods on the life of the tunnel lining structure is basically consistent with the existing …

In emergency vehicle dispatching after unexpected events,it is crucial to prioritize critical nodes with high demand urgency while minimizing excessive delivery delays at other nodes to prevent secondary impacts.On this basis,this study developed an emergency vehicle dispatching model that considered demand urgency and delivery delay fairness.Firstly,the entropy weight-TOPSIS method was used to calculate the demand urgency for each node,and a delivery delay balance index was introduced to minimize disparities in delivery delays between nodes.Secondly,a multi-objective optimization model was established with total delivery time,overall cost,and delivery delay balance as objectives,while considering constraints such as inventory levels at distribution centers and route …

In order to explore the respons e characteristics of steel tube batter piles with concrete infill under vertical load,the steel tube batter pile with concrete infill used in Saribas Bridge in Malaysia was taken as the research object.Based on the numerical simulation method,the frictional resistance of the inner and outer walls of the steel tube,the frictional resistance around the pile at the section,and the bending moment bearing ratio between the steel tube and the concrete core of this type of batter pile under vertical load were studied.The results show that the passive-side frictional resistance of the 0–15 m pile section …

An analysis by NYCity News Service of 2024 federal bridge inspection found that 118 segments of city bridges are in poor condition, around 8% of all bridges citywide. Among these are segments of major highways and bridges like the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, FDR Drive, Harlem River Drive, Grand Central Parkway and even a part of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. On a single stretch of highway, where the Grand Central Parkway and the Whitestone Expressway meet in Queens, there are seven parts of highway or ramps in poor condition.

The western massasauga (Sistrurus tergeminus) and the timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) are protected under Nebraska Statute 37-801-811 and listed as threatened species. These species occur in the right-of-way (ROW) along several roads in Jefferson, Gage, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties which necessitates the need for added Environmental Review (ER) from Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) staff and onsite surveys prior and during maintenance and construction to roadways. The implementation of slip lanes at roundabouts has been widely adopted to improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle conflicts. However, the presence of slip lanes introduces significant risks for pedestrians, influencing vehicle speeds, merging behaviors, and increasing the potential for pedestrian-vehicle conflicts. This study investigates pedestrian safety at roundabouts with various slip lane designs, focusing on their impact on vehicle speeds, pedestrian-vehicle conflicts, and yielding behavior. Battery-electric buses (BEBs) have become increasingly common in recent years, as transit agencies around the world seek to reduce their carbon emissions. Although many agencies and governments have set ambitious climate goals pushing for increased adoption of BEBs, some agencies face difficulty transitioning their fleets to this technology. This study seeks to understand the challenges faced by these agencies, as well as their motivations for adopting BEBs. Researchers conducted a series of interviewers with twelve transit leaders representing ten transit agencies who were leading BEB adoption programs, asking questions about their experiences trying to implement this technology. Turbo roundabouts are multilane roundabouts that utilize a spiral design with raised lane dividers to guide traffic flow effectively. While they have seen widespread use in Europe, California is the second state in the US (after Florida) to have installed a turbo roundabout. Turbo roundabouts separate the ingress and circulating lanes. The concept was first proposed and implemented in the Netherlands to address safety concerns and improve traffic flow efficiency on conventional multilane roundabouts.

Porous Asphalt Concrete (PAC), also known as Open-Graded Friction Course (OGFC), is known for its high permeability, which provides benefits such as enhanced rainwater drainage, improved skid resistance, and reduced hydroplaning risks. These characteristics are due to its high air void content, allowing water to flow through the pavement and reducing splash, spray, and noise compared to conventional asphalt mixes. However, this high air void content also contributes to durability concerns, such as raveling, stripping, and clogging, which can reduce service life and increase costs, making OGFC more expensive than conventional asphalt mixtures.

Airports generate economic impacts that are felt well beyond their physical boundaries by supporting commerce, tourism, and the provision of essential services. To understand the economic contributions of airports throughout Kentucky, researchers collected data from general aviation (GA) airports and commercial service (CS) airports across the state on operational statistics, levels of employment, and usage patterns in calendar year 2022. IMPLAN® econometric models were developed to estimate the economic contributions of the state’s airports. Severe weather events in Kentucky have become more frequent and more costly. These extreme events damage transportation assets, increase maintenance costs and strain transportation budgets. This report investigates the creation and assessment of a decision-making tool developed to aid the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) in determining the suitability of the Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) method for bridge replacement projects. The use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in combination with recycling agents (RAs) (i.e., rejuvenators or softening agents) has gained significant attention from the pavement industry as a sustainable pavement solution, reducing the carbon footprint of manufactured products through the conservation of energy and reduction on the use of raw materials. Current research has found that RAs can improve RAP recycled asphalt mixture’s cracking resistance, while being capable of maintaining their rutting resistance. In order to provide a comprehensive overview of research progress in the use of biomass ash as concrete admixture,the physical and chemical properties,mechanism of action,factors affecting the production process of biomass ash,and the effects of biomass ash incorporation on the working properties,mechanical properties,and durability of concrete were studied.The results show that biomass ash has a smaller density and a larger specific surface area than traditional mineral admixture,and the total amount of active components,namely SiO2 + Al2O3 + Fe2O3 (SAF) in most biomass ashes exceeds the requirements of class F volcanic ash (≥70%).Incorporating biomass ash can effectively improve the mechanical properties …
