Research On Dic Monitoring Of Dynamic Deflection And Damage Identification Method For Small And Medium-Span Bridges, Wang Yong, Li Derui, Tang Haotian, Yan Xingfei, Cheng Bin

Journal of China & Foreign Highway

A large number of built small and medium-span bridges in China are facing the problem of increasingly degrading structural performance. Therefore, it is of great significance to carry out lightweight intelligent monitoring and realize damage identification and early warning, so as to ensure the safe operation of these bridges. For typical small and medium-span simply supported beam bridges, a damage analysis method based on measured dynamic deflection data was established by combining the influence line theory and mechanical constitutive equations. Furthermore, based on the high-precision monitoring algorithm and instruments of digital image correlation (DIC), the real-time dynamic deflection data of …

Comparative Study On Pouring Timing Of Sealing Hinge Concrete For Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Arch Bridge, Wang Xiaoliang, Fu Kaige, Zhang Song, Wang Zhongqiang, Chen Zhuoyi

Journal of China & Foreign Highway

The pouring timing of sealing hinge concrete for concrete-filled steel tube arch bridges directly affects the construction duration and the stress state of arch ribs. To clarify the structural response differences at different pouring timings, the Beiliuhe Extra-large Bridge on the Pingxi ‒ Cenxi Expressway in Guangxi Province was taken as the engineering background in this paper. A finite element model was established using Midas Civil, and the following four pouring timings of sealing hinge concrete were comparatively analyzed: immediately after the butt welding of sealing hinge steel pipes; after the closure of arch ribs and before the pouring of …

Study On Calculation Method For Incremental Launching Based On Nonlinear Analysis, Mo Shanfeng, Huang Cailiang, Qin Hui

Journal of China & Foreign Highway

In view of the shortcomings of traditional incremental launching calculation methods and the assembly construction control of incremental launching beams, an incremental launching calculation method based on nonlinear analysis was proposed in this paper. This method could truly simulate the running state where the incremental launching pier remains stationary, and the beam moves forward. The assembly alignment of all segments of the beam and the real alignment of the beam under specified working conditions could be directly output. The prefabricated alignment of the main beam (i.e., unstressed alignment) did not need to be consistent with the slide alignment. When the …

Dredged sediment (DS) is generated worldwide in large volumes through routine port and waterway maintenance, yet its disposal presents environmental and economic challenges. Recently, calcined dredged sediment (CDS) has emerged as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM), offering a viable alternative to traditional SCMs, such as fly ash and slag cement. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the physical, chemical, and mineralogical characteristics of raw DS and pretreatment strategies aimed at dewatering, organic matter removal, and contaminant stabilization. The effects of calcination on the production of reactive amorphous aluminosilicates are also discussed. Emphasis is placed on physicochemical changes revealed by experimental …

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Reducing the carbon footprint of concrete has become a central objective in sustainable construction. Low-carbon concrete (LCC), developed primarily through clinker reduction, supplementary cementitious materials, and alternative binder strategies, offers a promising route for lowering embodied emissions while maintaining the performance requirements of structural concrete. This comprehensive review consolidates the current state of knowledge on LCC, identifies critical research and implementation gaps, and examines its material composition, mixture-design methodologies, performance characteristics, structural applications, implementation challenges, and decarbonization pathways. Single-SCM systems have been reported at clinker-replacement levels approaching 50%, although durability at these replacement levels, particularly carbonation resistance, remains system- and …

An Analytical Framework For Quantifying Urban And Community Resilience To Natural Hazards From Cell-Phone Gps-Location And Traffic-Flow Data, Georgios Chatzikyriakidis

Civil and Environmental Engineering Theses and Dissertations

Urban areas are increasingly exposed to natural hazards while accommodating a growing share of the global population, yet a consistent science-based framework for quantifying urban and community resilience remains lacking. This dissertation develops a physics-based analytical framework grounded in statistical mechanics and the quantitative theory of Brownian motion. A city is conceptualized as a complex medium in which citizens move analogously to Brownian particles within a viscoelastic environment, influenced by socioeconomic interactions and infrastructure functionality.

A central premise is that urban resilience, interpreted as engineering resilience (an outcome), can be quantified through a single metric: the mean-square displacement MSD=⟨r²(t)⟩, of …

Assessing Passenger Electric Vehicle Growth Strategies And Their Impacts On Electricity Demand Load And Co2 Emissions In Aceh Province To Achieve Net Zero Emission Target By 2060, Taufik Hidayat, Widodo Wahyu Purwanto

Journal of Materials Exploration and Findings

The electrification of the transport sector is a crucial pathway for achieving Indonesia’s Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target by 2060. This study assesses the potential impact of passenger electric vehicle (EV) penetration on electricity demand and CO2 emissions in Aceh Province through a scenario-based modelling approach. Two policy-aligned scenarios are assessed: a low-penetration (LP) scenario and a high-penetration (HP) scenario. Using the Gompertz model and the ASIF framework, total CO2 emissions were projected from 2020 to 2060. Results show that although higher EV penetration reduces direct emissions from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, total CO2 emissions increase more significantly under …

Toward Sustainable 3d Printable Cementitious Materials: Low-Carbon Design With Fiber Reinforcement, Nima Mahmoudzadeh Vaziri

Miners Solving for Tomorrow Research Conference

3D printing of cementitious materials, as an emerging construction technology, faces challenges in both mechanical performance and sustainability. Conventional mixture designs rely on high cement contents, leading to increased CO2 emissions, while printed elements often exhibit brittle behavior with limited crack resistance and reduced post-cracking performance. This study investigates the development of low-carbon 3D printed cementitious composites using environmentally friendly supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and fillers, combined with fiber reinforcement to enhance mechanical performance. Locally available SCMs and fillers were incorporated to significantly reduce cement content (>40%) and improve sustainability. Fiber reinforcement was introduced to mitigate brittleness and enhance …

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The evolution of microstructure in cementitious materials during their transition from fluid to solid state plays a critical role in determining their ultimate mechanical strength and overall performance. This hydration stage primarily involves a dynamic densification process occurring within the colloidal network. However, the field of cement-based materials currently lacks a comprehensive theoretical framework and associated parameters capable of effectively characterizing the specific structural regions within this network. In this study, we propose an Improved Particle Linkage (IPL) theory for describing the strength, types, and quantities of particle linkages within colloidal network. The IPL theory classifies the internal network structure …
