Sustainable – Low-Cost - Upgrade Of Activated Sludge Process For Nitrogen And Phosphorus (N&P) Removal From Wastewater, Abanoub N. Basta
Sustainable – Low-Cost - Upgrade Of Activated Sludge Process For Nitrogen And Phosphorus (N&P) Removal From Wastewater, Abanoub N. Basta
Theses and Dissertations
Many municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in developing countries were designed primarily for organic matter and suspended solids removal and therefore face increasing difficulty in meeting modern nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) discharge requirements. Conventional biological nutrient removal upgrades commonly require additional reactor volume, recirculation systems, aeration energy, and capital investment. Accordingly, sustainable retrofit strategies that improve nutrient removal within existing treatment footprints are increasingly needed, particularly in water-scarce and land-constrained regions.
This study investigated the integration of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) into the aeration stage of an activated sludge process as a hybrid nature-based enhancement for nitrogen and phosphorus …
A Framework For Automated Quantity Extraction From .Ifc Models And Normalized Bid Comparison, Asmaa Mohamed Farouk
A Framework For Automated Quantity Extraction From .Ifc Models And Normalized Bid Comparison, Asmaa Mohamed Farouk
Theses and Dissertations
Accurate bid comparison remains a major challenge in construction tendering due to
differences in Bill of Quantities formats, item naming conventions, and pricing methods across
contractor submissions. These variations require time-consuming manual work and often lead to
subjective decisions. This research presents a computational framework that uses Building
Information Modeling through the .ifc file format, combined with text analysis techniques for
automated bid normalization.
The developed system uses a dual-component approach. Phase 1 extracts quantities from .ifc
model files using 3D geometric calculations, automated element classification. Phase 2 uses text
mining with a domain-specific dictionary of construction terms to interpret …
Sustainable Construction Materials In The Middle East: Model Development For Materials Selection, Taha Ahmed Omar Madu
Sustainable Construction Materials In The Middle East: Model Development For Materials Selection, Taha Ahmed Omar Madu
Theses and Dissertations
The construction industry, a major driver of economic development in the Middle East, is simultaneously a leading contributor to carbon emissions, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. Amid rapid urbanization in countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, the adoption of sustainable construction materials has emerged as a critical strategy for mitigating environmental and societal impacts while advancing regional development objectives. This thesis is organized along two interrelated directions: first, it delivers a comprehensive assessment of the current adoption, challenges, and opportunities associated with the use of sustainable construction materials across the three target countries; second, it …
Towards Decarbonizing Concrete Industry In Egypt: Material Alternatives, And Economic Viability, Reem Gamal
Towards Decarbonizing Concrete Industry In Egypt: Material Alternatives, And Economic Viability, Reem Gamal
Theses and Dissertations
The construction industry remains one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, with cement and steel production accounting for approximately 15% of total emissions. As global infrastructure demands continue to rise, there is an increasing need for practical tools that support low-carbon construction practices in line with international climate commitments. This research presents the development and testing of a mathematical, adaptable decision support system designed to assess both the environmental and financial impacts of material selection in concrete production. Focusing on life cycle stages A1 to A3, raw material extraction, transportation, and manufacturing, the decision support system enables …
A Comparative Study Between Soft Structures And Hard Structures For The Protection Of Egypt’S Coastlines Against Climate Change, Donia Eldwib
Theses and Dissertations
Coastal communities worldwide face unprecedented threats from climate change, with rising sea levels, increased storm intensities, and accelerated coastal erosion posing significant risks. Egypt, with over 3,000 kilometers of coastlines along the Mediterranean and Red Seas, it is particularly vulnerable due to its densely populated and economically critical low-elevated coastal zones. With the Mediterranean Sea, and the Nile Delta specifically under huge threats, this study examines the different coastal protection strategies used to address these climate change impacts. Different coastal protection structures have been used throughout the years starting with the well-known hard structures moving on to greener alternatives such …
Assessment For Sustainable Transportation Systems In Egypt, Hagar Mohamed Fares
Assessment For Sustainable Transportation Systems In Egypt, Hagar Mohamed Fares
Theses and Dissertations
The assessment of a sustainable transportation system poses a significant challenge for local governments, as it dramatically influences the promotion of environmentally friendly modes of transportation with the objective of safeguarding the public's welfare and health in their daily activities. The integration of such assessment should be implemented from the initial stages of system planning to its operational and maintenance phases, particularly in light of the increasing number of urban development activities nationwide. In order to facilitate decision-making processes, it is imperative to establish an efficient rating system that incorporates cultural and social constraints and comprehensively considers the three dimensions …
Enhancing Construction Safety Training Of Bridges Using Augmented Reality And Virtual Reality, Mohamed Sherif Elrifaee
Enhancing Construction Safety Training Of Bridges Using Augmented Reality And Virtual Reality, Mohamed Sherif Elrifaee
Theses and Dissertations
Infrastructure development projects are widely acknowledged as some of the most complex and challenging projects to undertake. The construction of bridges, in particular, has proven to be a significant safety risk for workers, with a considerable number of accidents reported on construction sites. There is a lack of comprehensive training programs specifically designed for bridge construction safety, and only a few studies have explored the use of both AR and VR to enhance safety training in construction. As such, this research aims to improve the safety of bridge construction sites through the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality …
Assessment Of Key Imperatives For Enhancing Precast Adoptability In Egypt, Mostafa Sameh
Assessment Of Key Imperatives For Enhancing Precast Adoptability In Egypt, Mostafa Sameh
Theses and Dissertations
Precast Concrete’s modular application concept is a major construction method that has been used historically seen in various shapes, forms, and with a wide range of constituents. Examples include Ancient Egypt and China among several impressive structures in old civilizations. The major advantages of precast concrete lie in its adaptability, resilience, and versatility which makes precast concrete one of the most agile building materials. Precast concrete as we know it today has been introduced to our markets over the past several decades. Having similar advantages to that of old precast building methods, the road has been paved for wider use …
