Research On Parametric Method Of Highway Bim Based On Digital Delivery, Li Jinlong, Wang Xinnan
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
By analyzing the application points and the current situation of digital delivery in each stage of highway engineering construction, this study found that the lack of parameter management and definition in the modification and refinement process of building information modeling (BIM ) source files at each stage led to difficulties in the splitting and refinement of BIM at each stage and even the need for reconstruction. To this end,a method for strengthening the overall planning of the whole life cycle was proposed.By clarifying the demand for model parameters according to the application points of each stage,a mechanism for parameter reservation and classification …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
The plan design for the small-spacing interchange connection on the expressway directly affects operational efficiency and driving safety. To achieve the conversion of traffic flow between different expressways, this study explored the reconstruction plan of the connection section under the condition that the interchange spacing did not meet the Design Specification for Highway Alignment (JTG D20‒2017 ) and investigated two connection schemes, including auxiliary lane and collector-distributor lane by taking the Xinlong –Gangkou interchange of the Zhongshan‒Jiangmen Expressway reconstruction and expansion project as an example. The results show that the auxiliary lane is recommended in consideration of the long-term service level, speed coordination, operational efficiency, and engineering …

Design Of Champlain Bridge In Canada, Xie Yaning, Zhou Yanfeng, Marwan Nader
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
The Champlain Bridge,an iconic gateway spanning the St.Lawrence River in Montreal, showcases not only the excellence of engineering but also becomes an integral part of the city ’s landscape. With a main span of 240 m,the bridge employs a unique single-pylon harp-shaped double-plane cable-stayed structure. The upper pylon is inspired by a tuning fork in its lateral design, while the upper crossbeam artfully mimics the shape of a bow tie, endowing the bridge with a visual beauty that harmoniously blends elegance and strength. The bridge deck, with a total width of 60 m,was the widest double-plane cable-stayed bridge in the world when it was completed. The typical spans …

Optimizing The Sustainability Of Asphalt Pavements Through Incorporating Crumb Rubber In High-Modulus Asphalt Concrete (Hmac) Mixtures In Louisiana, Heena Dhasmana, Marwa Hassan, Mohamed Abdelmageed
Publications
Asphalt mixtures are traditionally produced using the Superpave mix design method, which emphasizes volumetric properties; however, current research is shifting toward performance-based and sustainable approaches. Within this context, the French High Modulus Asphalt Concrete (HMAC) design focuses on achieving specific performance criteria for workability, stiffness, rutting resistance, and fatigue behavior, employing a hard binder with higher asphalt content and fewer air voids than Superpave mixes. In this study, HMAC mixtures were developed using crumb rubber and locally sourced Louisiana materials. Five HMAC mixes using PG 76-22 and PG 67-22 binders with 10% and 20% crumb rubber were prepared, along with …

Incorporating Recycled And Repurposed Plastic Into 100% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement, Basant Bhatt
Graduate Theses and Dissertations (2019 - present)
The increasing awareness of sustainability in the asphalt industry has driven the use of recycled materials like reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and waste plastic. This study examines the incorporation of recycled polypropylene (rPP), recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE), and recycled low-density polyethylene (rLDPE) at 0.3%, 0.6%, and 0.8% dosages into 100% RAP, along with the warm mix asphalt additive Evotherm® P25. Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical and durability performance of the modified asphalt mixtures while rutting and fatigue life were evaluated using mechanistic-empirical (ME) analysis in PerRoad software. Both plastic type and dosage had a statistically significant impact …

Innovative Design Methodology For Durable Open-Graded Friction Course Asphalt Mixtures, Anas Abualia
Innovative Design Methodology For Durable Open-Graded Friction Course Asphalt Mixtures, Anas Abualia
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Open-graded friction course (OGFC) is a thin asphalt mixture surface layer with a high percentage of coarse aggregates and high interconnected air voids, which provides improved skid resistance, visibility, and decreased pavement-tire noise. However, construction personnel at DOTD reported that conventional OGFC mixtures have short service life (raveling distress). Further, their structural contribution to the pavement structure is commonly neglected and designed only for functionality purposes.
The objective of this study was to develop a rational mix design methodology to improve the durability of OGFC asphalt mixtures. Specific objectives are to: (1) conduct a rheological and chemical characterization of polymer-, …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
In environments with large temperature variations and low humidity, the curing conditions of cement-stabilized macadam fail to meet the specifications, leading to slow early strength development and increased susceptibility to cracking. This study aimed to investigate the effects of actual environmental temperature, humidity, curing age,and addition of early strength agents on the cracking characteristics of cement-stabilized macadam.Variable temperature conditions were determined based on actual environmental temperature data.Four curing conditions were set by combining temperatures (variable temperature and standard temperature ) with relative humidity of 95%,80%,and 65%,respectively.Three types of specimens were prepared with 0%,10%,and 15% early strength agent contents and cured for 14 and 28 days, respectively. The …

Mechanism Of Mud Pumping On Plateau Highway Under Traffic Loads And Its Treatment Strategy, Zhang Junhui, Chen Zhide, Gao Feng, Na Qicai, Ma Pengfei, Xiao Lin
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
The dynamic hydraulic response and particle migration of subgrade structures under traffic loads are fundamental to reveal the formation and development mechanisms of mud pumping. The driving mechanism of fine particle migration in the mud pumping state was explored by conducting laboratory tests on layered gravel-sandy silt columns under dynamic loads. The results show that the slurry sloshing causes alternating positive and negative pressure gradients within the gravel layer. This oscillating pressure gradient enhances the pore permeability in the underlying sandy silt layer, providing the necessary hydrodynamic conditions for fine particle migration.Fine particle migration increases the slurry turbidity to a stable value.Upon the removal …
