Interpretation Of Drill Log Data: Dlog3d - A Probabilistic Tool For Analyzing Subsurface Soil Variability, Alaa El-Din Ali, Upmanu Lall Jan 1993

Interpretation Of Drill Log Data: Dlog3d - A Probabilistic Tool For Analyzing Subsurface Soil Variability, Alaa El-Din Ali, Upmanu Lall

Reports

Groundwater contamination potential is directly related to the location of zones of high hydraulic conductivity. Sedimentary depositional environments can be quite complex. Pockets of sand of varying thickness and orientation may be scattered over the aquifer. A contaminant pathway can esist where these pockets or lenses are interconnected. Aquifer pump tests do not provide useful information on the occurrence of such lenses. Drill log data directly sample the soil, but may represent very local sections of the aquifer, and are of relatively poor quality. Here we present a methodology (DLOG3D) that allows a probabilistic interpretation of drill log data that …

Southern Nevada Effluent Wetlands: A Proposed Cooperative Venture Between The Bureau Of Reclamation & City Of Las Vegas, Bureau Of Reclamation Nov 1992

Southern Nevada Effluent Wetlands: A Proposed Cooperative Venture Between The Bureau Of Reclamation & City Of Las Vegas, Bureau Of Reclamation

Publications (WR)

Throughout North America there is a growing interest in constructed wetlands, both as relatively inexpensive, low-maintenance systems for removing nutrients from wastewater, and as a means of using municipal wastewater to enhance wildlife habitat and create public use opportunities. Because wetlands appear to have good potential as a component in the overall management of scarce water resources, the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has undertaken several cooperative research and demonstration projects to evaluate their effectiveness in a variety of local environments. While a number of projects have demonstrated that wetlands can be beneficially employed to improve water quality, few such projects …

Optimization Of Dispersed Flor Pond For Bacterial Removal, Mayo A. W Jun 1992

Optimization Of Dispersed Flor Pond For Bacterial Removal, Mayo A. W

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The design of waste stabilization ponds is seldom done with consideration of optimum pond dimensions. The analysis of pond dimensions within practical limits in dispersed flow ponds on the basis of minimum cost for the predetermined bacterial remova) ef ficiency, with the aid of computer is presented. The data collected in the pilot and full scale waste stabilization ponds at the University of Dar es Salaam Was used as input to the computer program. The results shows that pond configuration and climatic conditions which have influence on bacterial mortality rate have a re:narkable influence on pond cost

Hydrodynamic Stability Of The Breakwater Extension At Rrviksand, Norway, Alfonse Dubi Jun 1992

Hydrodynamic Stability Of The Breakwater Extension At Rrviksand, Norway, Alfonse Dubi

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The fishing port of Årviksand in Norway, which is situated on an open coast, is artificially harboured by breakwaters. The northern and southern breakwaters which were built in 1930—ies and 1950—ies respecti vely have been on several occasions damaged by heavy storms. This resul ted in the need for further protection by extending the northern breakwater. This paper describes one of the hydrodynamic tests on the breakwater extension. The breakwater, with a berm breakwater concept design, is subjected to the joint probability of sea level elevation and wave heights (in other 'fatigue" test). words , It is found that cover …

Evaluation Of Wind Data Records To Predict Extreme Extreme Wind Speeds In Tanzania, L Lwambuka Jun 1992

Evaluation Of Wind Data Records To Predict Extreme Extreme Wind Speeds In Tanzania, L Lwambuka

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The progress made towards evaluation of local wind data records to pred ict extreme values of wind speeds in Tanzania is being presented . Records of wind data, stored continuously since 18 years, have been compiled and statistically processed. Extreme value theory of Fisher —Tippet Type I has been fitted into the data to abstract extreme values of wind speeds for locations at which the wind data records were obtained. A reliable wind map of Tanzania containing basic wind speeds at 18 locations across the country has been produced. The basic wind speeds are being recommended for des ign against …

Agenda: Uncovering The Hidden Resource: Groundwater Law, Hydrology And Policy In The 1990s, University Of Colorado Boulder. Natural Resources Law Center, Rocky Mountain Ground-Water Conference (1992), Colorado Ground-Water Association

Uncovering the Hidden Resource: Groundwater Law, Hydrology, and Policy in the 1990s (Summer Conference, June 15-17)

Sponsored by Natural Resources Law Center, University of Colorado School of Law and the Rocky Mountain Ground-Water Conference, organized by the Colorado Ground-Water Association.

Faculty for the conference included University of Colorado School of Law professor Lawrence J. MacDonnell.

Nearly half the people in the United States rely on groundwater as their primary water source. As demands for groundwater grow, it becomes increasingly important for lawyer and technical professionals to understand the legal and hydrologic issues arising in groundwater development, use, and protection. These issues will be the focus of the Center's thirteenth annual summer program, June 15-17, 1992.
