Analysis Of Cost Growth In Us Air Force Base Support Function Contracts, James S. Romasz Mar 1999

Analysis Of Cost Growth In Us Air Force Base Support Function Contracts, James S. Romasz

Theses and Dissertations

The United States Air Force (USAF) has outsourced a significant portion of their activities defined as commercial activities and plans to aggressively outsource more in the future. The USAF outsources its commercial activities in the form of multi-year contracts to the private sector. Cost growth (either negative or positive) has been experienced by most of these contracts. This research effort performed a review of current literature and used statistical analysis to clarify the issue: what are the causes, and extent of cost growth in USAF base-support-function contracts?. From the literature, it can be concluded that changes to the statement of …

Individual Housing Choices Among Air Force Members, Michael J. Johnson Mar 1999

Individual Housing Choices Among Air Force Members, Michael J. Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

Air Force members have three different housing choices: live in MFH, rent in the local community, or buy a house in the local community. A set of six constructs (Housing Attributes, Safety, Pet Importance, Location, Military Housing Perception, and Community) that encompass members' considerations is developed and analyzed. The data was extracted from a survey that was specifically designed to illicit the relative importance of each construct during the housing decision making process. Each construct was measured using a Likert scale score. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the overall Likert mean score for each construct. Using the Likert mean …

Management Of Change In The Irish Construction Industry, Louis Gunnigan Jan 1999

Management Of Change In The Irish Construction Industry, Louis Gunnigan

Masters

Ireland is changing and this change is nowhere more apparent than in the rapidly growing construction industry. The industry is being forced to change at an unprecedented pace. This thesis sets out to develop a framework on which construction organisations can approach and manage change.

It examines the issues that will cause change, reviews the available literature to find how change can be managed and controlled, and develops a model for guiding change programmes in the construction industry. The model is tested against three case studies, the first two of which are concerned with finding increases in efficiency and demonstrating …

A Study Of Factors Affecting The Implementation Of Iso 9000 In Taiwan's Construction Industry, Chuan-Chen Hung Jan 1999

A Study Of Factors Affecting The Implementation Of Iso 9000 In Taiwan's Construction Industry, Chuan-Chen Hung

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The purpose of this study was to determine the attitude of Taiwanese construction companies regarding the adoption and implementation of ISO 9000. This was accomplished by conducting a survey to investigate the perceived factors affecting the intention to adopt ISO 9000 and its successful implementation.

The survey instrument was developed through the review of related literature as well as through validations. One hundred eighty (180) construction companies were randomly sampled from the 1998 Membership Directory of the National Construction Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which consisted of 60 Type-A, Type-B, and Type-C construction companies. In total, 62 respondents …

Euroconstruction Report 1, Louis Gunnigan, Trevor Orr Jan 1998

Euroconstruction Report 1, Louis Gunnigan, Trevor Orr

Reports

This report was prepared on behalf of the Construction Industry Federation as Ireland’s initial contribution to the Leonardo da Vinci Project: Euroconstruction.

The report is divided into 3 sections.

Section 1 concentrates on the recent and likely future changes in the structure of the Irish construction market and the impact of these changes on project management and project financing. The recent growth of the industry is documented and predictions for the future of the industry in Ireland are summarised. The conclusions reached show that an increased involvement in the financing of public projects is required from the private sector if …

Flexural Behavior Of Thermoplastic Beams With And Without Frp Reinforcement, Hilmi Coskun Oct 1997

Flexural Behavior Of Thermoplastic Beams With And Without Frp Reinforcement, Hilmi Coskun

Civil & Environmental Engineering Theses & Dissertations

This thesis presents the results of an experimental and theoretical study of the flexural behavior of thermoplastic beams with and without fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) rebars. Tests are conducted on commercially available thermoplastic beams known as Seatimber. The normal stress-strain relations of both the thermoplastic material and FRP rebars are obtained in tension and compression experimentally. These mechanical property curves are then used as part of the input for developing the theoretical moment-curvature relations using an iterative equilibrium procedure. The moment-curvature relations are in turn used for predicting the beam load-deflection curves via the central finite-difference procedure. Behavior predictions are made …

A Cultural Resource Investigation Of Two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation Parcels, Susie Van Kirk Dec 1996

A Cultural Resource Investigation Of Two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation Parcels, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

During the month of October, November, and December 1996, a Cultural Resources Investigation was conducted on two Louisiana-Pacific Corporation parcels located at Big Lagoon, Humboldt County, California (see Map 1). The survey was requested by Jamie Heltsley of Ron Hunt Surveying & Forestry, Arcata, California. Proposed project plans include the combining of four separate assessors parcels into two assessor's parcels.

The purposes of this investigation were to (1) locate and record project area cultural resources; (2) to evaluate the significance of study area cultural resources; (3) to assess potential impacts to cultural resources resulting from project related operations; (4) to …
