Fabrication And Performance Of Scalable Bio-Engineered Porous Layers For Efficient Co2 Capture, Mary Sharon Rose Bondugula
Fabrication And Performance Of Scalable Bio-Engineered Porous Layers For Efficient Co2 Capture, Mary Sharon Rose Bondugula
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation addresses the critical challenge of mitigating climate change by advancing CO2 capture technologies. As global CO2 emissions continue to rise, effective methods for capturing and separating CO2 from industrial processes are essential to combat climate change. Existing CO2 capture systems, such as Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) and Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA), often rely on packed bed designs that face limitations, including poor heat and mass transfer, slow gas diffusion, and low thermal conductivity, reducing their efficiency. To overcome these challenges, this dissertation explores innovative solutions by developing advanced adsorbent coatings and scalable bed configurations.

Effects Of Microporous Structure On The Enzymatic Conversion Of Biomass Using A Multiscale Model, Saketh Merugu
Effects Of Microporous Structure On The Enzymatic Conversion Of Biomass Using A Multiscale Model, Saketh Merugu
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
The generation of biofuels from lignocellulosic biomass involves innovative process technology that is being investigated worldwide. Enzymatic hydrolysis is a major step in the contemporary process of the generation of biofuels. Guided by pore size distribution measured using NMR cryoporometry, we developed pore-enzyme diffusion and adsorption models at the particle level coupled with a kinetic model for cellulose, cellobiose, and glucose production at flask level. By simulating these models in MATLAB, COMSOL, and Polymath software packages, we investigate the effects of various biomass particle-related parameters (particle dimensions, porosity, enzyme accessibility) on the characteristic time of enzyme diffusion and adsorption and …
Removal Of Fluoride From Mine Water Via Adsorption For Land-Applied Soil Amendment, Michelle Dopp, Kevin Le, Ethan Phan, Mary Johnson, Jacqueline Payne, Adrian Damian, Courtney Golman

Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The Moo Pig Sooie’s researched, designed, and economically analyzed a full-scale adsorption column system to be applied in mining processes that leave high amounts of fluoride in their effluent. This system was designed to remove fluoride from water saturated with calcium sulfate, as calcium sulfate is present in high amounts in certain mining processes. Currently, high density sludge (HDS) is commonly employed to reduce fluoride concentrations, but due to solubility limits the sludge treatment cannot lower fluoride below 10 mg/L (ppm). The current enforceable EPA standard for discharged water is at 4 mg/L (ppm), although mining companies anticipate that this …

Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Due to the increasing prevalence of prescription medication over the past few
decades, pharmaceuticals have accumulated in various water sources. This has become a
public health concern because many pharmaceuticals have limited research on the effects
of chronic low-level exposure. According to the World’s Health Organization (WHO),
traces of pharmaceuticals products have been reported in different water sources such as
surface waters, wastewater, groundwater, and drinking water.[1] One pharmaceutical of
interest that has been detected in water sources is carbamazepine. Carbamazepine is a
common pharmaceutical prescribed for the treatment of seizure disorders, neuropathic
pain, and various psychological disorders. It’s mechanism …

Doug Ruthven And Jorg Karger: Their Individual And Collective Contributions To The Field Of Zeolite Science And Engineering, Dhananjai B. Shah
Chemical & Biomedical Engineering Faculty Publications
Prof. Doug Ruthven and Prof. Jörg Kärger are two giants in the field of zeolite science and engineering. Over their academic careers encompassing almost forty years each, they have contributed significantly to the advancement of fundamental understanding of adsorption and diffusion in zeolites as well as their industrial applications. The author, in the beginning of his academic career, had an opportunity to spend two years as a post-doctoral fellow in Prof. Ruthven’s laboratory at the University of New Brunswick (1975–1977). This experience actually motivated me to spend my academic career in working in the field of zeolite adsorption and …
Simulation Of The Oxygen Reduction Reaction At An Rde In 0.5 M H2So4 Including An Adsorption Mechanism, Qingbo Dong, Shriram Santhanagopalan, Ralph E. White
Simulation Of The Oxygen Reduction Reaction At An Rde In 0.5 M H2So4 Including An Adsorption Mechanism, Qingbo Dong, Shriram Santhanagopalan, Ralph E. White

Oxygen reduction on the surface of a rotating disk electrode (RDE) in 0.5 M H2SO4 is simulated by including mass transfer, adsorption, and charge transfer. A generalized model for the adsorption and reaction of several species is introduced. The oxygen reduction reaction is simulated as a limiting case where oxygen is the only species adsorbed, and oxygen reduction is the only reaction that takes place on the surface of the electrode. The model is based on the Nernst–Planck equations for mass transfer and the Butler–Volmer equation for electrochemical kinetics. The simulated polarization curves capture the change in …
