Garver Industrial Design Project: Designing A Full-Scale Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility For The City Of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kayliana Warden, Marlando Collins, Sandrina Depaz, Reid Eakin, Reed Leasure, Vera Rodriguez
Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
A groundwater treatment facility was designed for Lawton, Oklahoma to address potential water scarcity due to drought conditions in southwest Oklahoma. The facility will produce five million gallons per day (MGD) of treated water. The plant will have the capacity of treating 4,085 gallons per minute of influent water at an 86% recovery. The water to be treated will come from the Arbuckle-Timbered Hills Aquifer. Studies have been conducted around the aquifer to identify the best well site locations.
A centralized treatment facility using reverse osmosis filtration as the main treatment technology has been designed. To prevent reverse osmosis membrane …
The Development Of Temperature And Ph Responsive Hydrogels And Membranes For Selective Sorption Of Perfluoroorganics And Nanoparticle Integrated Catalytic Degradation Of Pcb, Anthony Saad
Theses and Dissertations--Chemical and Materials Engineering
The functionalization and use of responsive and catalytic polymeric membranes and materials were explored for contaminant capture and degradation. While membranes have a wide variety of uses across multiple industries, the inclusion of materials that are temperature and pH responsive in the membrane pore domain yields a wide range of applications and possibilities for water treatment. Temperature and pH responsive polymers, as well as controlled nanostructured materials, were synthesized in membrane pores for advanced adsorption-desorption and catalytic treatment of emerging organic contaminants in water. In this study, supported by the NIEHS, poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAm) was used as a model thermo-responsive polymer, …
Polymeric Nanocomposite Membranes With Phosphorene Based Pore Fillers For Fouling Control, Joyner Eke
Polymeric Nanocomposite Membranes With Phosphorene Based Pore Fillers For Fouling Control, Joyner Eke
Theses and Dissertations--Chemical and Materials Engineering
Phosphorene is a two-dimensional material exfoliated from bulk phosphorus. Specifically, relevant to the field of membrane science, the band gap of phosphorene provides it with potential photocatalytic properties, which could be explored in making reactive membranes able to control the accumulation of compounds on the surface during filtration, or fouling. Another reason phosphorene is a promising candidate as a membrane material additive is due to its catalytic properties which can potentially destroy foulants on the membrane surface.
The first goal of this study was to develop an innovative and robust membrane able to control and reverse fouling with minimal changes …
Engineered Carbon-Nanocatalyst Composites And Carbon Mixed Matrix Membranes For Water And Wastewater Treatment , Mojtaba Abolhassani
Engineered Carbon-Nanocatalyst Composites And Carbon Mixed Matrix Membranes For Water And Wastewater Treatment , Mojtaba Abolhassani
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Carbonaceous materials such as graphene oxide, and activated carbon have a wide range of applications in water and wastewater treatment due to the high surface area, unique structure, and chemical and thermal stability. Carbon-based materials can be used as a membrane, an adsorbent, a support for nanomaterials, or as a filler within membranes to remove contaminants from water. In this research, the specific carbon materials and how their properties influence their use and performance in specific engineering applications is explored.
Here, membrane filtration and adsorption/degradation of the water and wastewater using carbon-based material are investigated. The research firstly focuses …

Synthesis Of Biologically-Inspired Nanofiltration Membranes Using Protected, Mutated, And Simulated Aquaporins, Priyesh Ashokrao Wagh
Theses and Dissertations--Chemical and Materials Engineering
Gram-negative bacterial cells are surrounded by a cell membrane which protects the cell and controls the transport of nutrients and waste products in and out of the cells at a fast rate. This rapid transport of nutrients and wastes through the cell membrane is made possible by channel proteins called porins. Various types of porins present in the cell membrane have specific functions depending on their selectivity towards different nutrients, and channel proteins selective towards water are called aquaporins. These proteins restrict the passage of all entities except water molecules and they provide a fast transport rate of water molecules …
