Flow Patterns, Velocity Distributions And Mixing Time In Stirred Tank Reactor Under A Range Of Operating Conditions, Nor Haslina Abdullah Dec 2020

Flow Patterns, Velocity Distributions And Mixing Time In Stirred Tank Reactor Under A Range Of Operating Conditions, Nor Haslina Abdullah

Student Works (2020-2029)

The present work employed a two-dimensional Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) technique to determine the flow patterns and velocity distributions of a down-pumping pitched-blade turbine (4PB) and a Rushton turbine (RT) in a flat-bottom fully baffled stirred vessel (T=0.155m) using distilled water and glycerin as liquids. Fluid velocities increased as the impeller speed increased from 50rpm to 300rpm for both fluids and the RT impeller reached a maximum value of velocity of 1.42m/s at the blade tip. The 4PB had higher velocity compared to RT in glycerin, but RT had higher velocity than 4PB in distilled water. In water, radial flow …

Preparation Characterization And Tribological Behavior Of Lube Oil With Nanoparticles Additives, Waleed Alghani Sep 2020

Preparation Characterization And Tribological Behavior Of Lube Oil With Nanoparticles Additives, Waleed Alghani

Student Works (2020-2029)

There are many companies worldwide that would like to improve and upgrade the lube oil and enhance its performance. There is a big concern for the enhancement of lube oil by using nanotechnology and more precisely with using nanomaterial additives. Much work has made to explore and develop new sorts of lubricating oil nano-additives to diminish wear and friction in tribological configurations and to enhance surface morphology. It has noted that the use of dual nano-additives should examine the lubricating capacity and durability of lubricant. (TiO2 Anatase + Graphene) and (ZnO + Graphene) nanoparticles have selected to formulate nano-additives that …

Process Improvement And Microbial Characterisation Of Biological Nitrogen Removal For Tropical Wastewater With Low Chemical Oxygen Demand/Nitrogen Ratio, How Seow Wah Sep 2020

Process Improvement And Microbial Characterisation Of Biological Nitrogen Removal For Tropical Wastewater With Low Chemical Oxygen Demand/Nitrogen Ratio, How Seow Wah

Student Works (2020-2029)

Malaysia has one of the most established biological nitrogen removal in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) among the developing Southeast Asian countries. The current WWTPs’ design and operating guidelines in Malaysia are mainly derived from other developed countries with more experiences in operating biological nitrogen removal. These design guidelines are good practices for WWTPs in the temperate climate region, but may not be optimal for the local wastewater characteristics and tropical climate in Malaysia. The local wastewater industry is keen to improve the design and operation of WWTPs to reduce the energy consumption and operating cost, which helps to foster a …

Fractionation And Characterization Of Extracted Lignin From Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Using Synthesized Deep Eutectic Solvents, Tan Yee Tong Sep 2020

Fractionation And Characterization Of Extracted Lignin From Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Using Synthesized Deep Eutectic Solvents, Tan Yee Tong

Student Works (2020-2029)

Deep eutectic solvent (DES), a new generation green solvent has been introduced as an alternative pretreatment solvent due to its ability for lignocellulosic biomass fractionation and lignin extraction. Numerous types of compounds can be adopted as DES constituents, which has resulted in abundant variation of DES with varying properties. Selection of the suitable chemical compound category is therefore essential for optimum DES performance. However, investigation on the performance comparison between the different DES categories is lacking. In addition, despite its widely acknowledged effectiveness in biomass fractionation, the properties of DES-fractionated biopolymers, especially lignin are not well understood. Hence, this project …

Effect Of Different Types Of Static Mixer Geometry On Quality Of Microbubble Generation, Tee Wu Yang Dec 2019

Effect Of Different Types Of Static Mixer Geometry On Quality Of Microbubble Generation, Tee Wu Yang

Student Works (2020-2029)

This research project is mainly focused on the impact of different types of static mixer on the quality of microbubble generation. The design of the microbubble generation consists of venturi to allow the air intake by using pressure difference and then different static mixer geometry are tested to investigate the effect on bubble rising time and dissolved oxygen (DO). At the first part of study, the work comprises of the relationship of bubble rising time at different pressures and bubble diameter at different pressures. It has proved that higher pressure will induce small bubble diameter and the bubble rising time …

Emulsification And Dispersant Properties Of Sugar Ester Glycolipid In Water In Oil And Oil In Water Emulsion., Azrah Abdul Aziz Jan 2008

Emulsification And Dispersant Properties Of Sugar Ester Glycolipid In Water In Oil And Oil In Water Emulsion., Azrah Abdul Aziz

Student Works (2010-2019)

The influence of different dispersing agent on the rheological behaviors of paraffin oil-water emulsion with addition of TiO2 for uv-protect and moisturizing active ingredient was studied. While making creams with minimal structural defects and longer storage stability, it is important that preparation conditions be optimized. Settle volume properties, Zeta potential, effective diameter and settle volume of TiO2 suspension were studied in the presence of glycolipid (DDM and Carrageenan), nonionic (PEG 10,000 and Brij 35P) as well as anionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS). In the experiments, the higher concentration of dispersing agents shows higher settle volume percentage, higher zeta potential …
