The Surface Modification Of Zeolite Y In Composite Selective Layer Of Hollow Fiber Membrane For Separation Of Co2/Ch4 Mixture, Thakorn Wichaidit
The Surface Modification Of Zeolite Y In Composite Selective Layer Of Hollow Fiber Membrane For Separation Of Co2/Ch4 Mixture, Thakorn Wichaidit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This work focused on the fabrication and evaluation of composing hollow fiber mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) incorporated by zeolite Y for CO2/CH4 separation. The effects of surface modification of zeolite Y to improve compatibility of filler and polymer dispersibility of the filler in the polymer matrix on properties and separation performance of the membrane were investigated. A polysulfone (PSF) was used as a support hollow fiber and a selective layer composing of polyether-block-amide (Pebax) and zeolite Y (ZeY) and surface modification of zeolite Y (mo-ZeY) was coated on support. A [3-(2-Aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS) was used to grafted on surface of pristine …
Dehydration And Dehydrogenation Of Ethanol Over Smectite Catalysts, Chadaporn Krutpijit
Dehydration And Dehydrogenation Of Ethanol Over Smectite Catalysts, Chadaporn Krutpijit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The research aimed to investigate the characteristics and catalytic properties of acid-activated montmorillonite catalyst and AgLi-modified montmorillonite catalyst. In the first part, the catalytic dehydration of ethanol to obtain ethylene over Al-pillared montmorillonite clays (MMT) with mineral acid activation including H2SO4 (SA-MMT), HCl (HA-MMT) and HNO3 (NA-MMT) was investigated. It revealed that HA-MMT exhibited the highest catalytic activity which can be attributed to an increase of weak acid sites and acid density by the activation of MMT with HCl. Upon the stability test for 72 h during the reaction, the MMT and HA-MMT showed only slight deactivation due to carbon …
Activated Carbon Derived From Bacterial Cellulose And Applications As Adsorbent And Solid Acid Catalyst, Arnon Khamkeaw
Activated Carbon Derived From Bacterial Cellulose And Applications As Adsorbent And Solid Acid Catalyst, Arnon Khamkeaw
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The aim of this research was to investigate the synthesis and characterization of activated carbon from bacterial cellulose (BC-AC) and its applications. The research was divided into three parts. The first part was the preparation of BC-AC and application of BC-AC as an adsorbent in methylene blue (MB) adsorption. Bacterial cellulose (BC) was carbonized with a chemical activation using phosphoric acid as an activating agent. It was found that BC-AC possesses mesoporous structures, high pore volume, high surface area, and high thermal stability. In MB adsorption application, BC-AC was a high effective adsorbent with a fast adsorption rate and high …

Deposition Of Rust Particles On Stainless Steel Surface, Taweechai Watcharapiboon
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research investigates deposition behavior of rust particles in ethylene glycol solution onto surface of stainless steel. The study includes effects of contact time of the solution on the surface, flow velocity, particles size and particle concentration in the solution, on the thickness of rust particle film on the surface. According to results, thickness of rust particle film increases as the immersing is prolonged. The film thickness becomes constant at about 100 day. The increased solution velocity, the decreased size of rust particles and the reduce in the particle concentration, cause the adhesion of the particles on the surface is …

Reaction Kinetics Of Ethane Partial Oxidation To Acetic Acid, Sulaiman Al-Mayman, Moustafa A. Soliman, Abdulrhman S. Al-Awadi, Yousef S. Al-Zeghayer
Chemical Engineering
The partial oxidation of ethane to ethylene and acetic acid on supported MoVNbPd/TiO2 (P25 of Degussa) has been investigated. Pd was added in a nano-metallic form. The catalyst composition was also different from similar studied catalysts. This results in a better selectivity towards acetic acid formation. The reaction was carried out in a tubular reactor at temperature range 225–275 °C, total pressure range 0–200 psig and oxygen percentage in the feed gas of 10–40%. The feed gas contains ethane and oxygen. In this work, we develop a kinetic model for the reaction for the developed catalyst. In this model, we …

A Novel Graphical Approach For Mass Exchange Networks Using Composition Driving Force, Nessren Farrag, Dina Kamel, Ayat Ossama, Mamdouh Gadalla, Mai Fouad
Chemical Engineering
Raw materials are considered as a corner stone for both chemical and process industries. Raw materials efficient utilization and usage within the process saves a lot. Mass integration is the most competent path to minimize the economic and environmental losses, by minimizing both the amounts of external mass separating agents and waste disposal. Mass exchange networks or MENs is the tool used to apply this integration. This article presents a new graphical approach, based on the composition driving force, to analyse the mass integration and exchange networks. The new approach is illustrated graphically, and can be applied on existing and …

The food industry produces a large amount of waste and wastewater, of which most of the constituents are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and organic fibers. Therefore food wastes are highly biodegradable and energy rich. Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are systems that use microorganisms to biochemically catalyze complex substrates into useful energy products, in which the catalytic reactions take place on electrodes. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are a type of bioelectrochemical systems that oxidize substrates and generate electric current. Microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) are another type of bioelectrochemical systems that use an external power source to catalyze the substrate into by-products such as …

Fabrication Of Mnox/Mwcnts-Gc Nanocatalyst For Oxygen Evolution Reaction, Islam M. Al-Akraa Dr., Yaser M. Asal Mr, Amr M. Arafa Eng.
Chemical Engineering
Manganese oxide (MnOx) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are intended to modify the GC electrode for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Optimization of MnOx loading is carried out and the deposition of 55 cycles was sufficient to obtain the highest activity toward OER. The stability of the catalyst is enhanced by the addition of MWCNTs. As a result, an amount of 22 kWh/Kg of O2 of energy is saved. Several techniques including cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy will be combined to track the catalyst activity and to determine its morphology …

Assembling Of Niox/Mwcnts-Gc Anodic Nanocatalyst For Water Electrolysis Applications, Islam M. Al-Akraa Dr., Yaser M. Asal Mr, Saher D. Khamis Eng
Chemical Engineering
Glassy carbon (GC) electrode is intended to be modified with nickel oxide (NiOx) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in the anodic reaction of water electrolysis. NiOx deposition time is optimized and a 5 min was enough to attain the maximum activity. A further modification of the catalyst with MWCNTs could greatly enhance its stability during continuous electrolysis. As an outcome, an energy amount of 21.7 kWh/KgO2 is minimized. Several electrochemical and materials characterization setups will be utilized to test the catalyst activity and to know its geometry and structure.
