The Ac-Impedance Analysis For Pluse Oxide Film Of Aluminium Alloy, Ai-Ling Du, Xi-Cheng Ma, He-Ming Zhang Aug 1999

The Ac-Impedance Analysis For Pluse Oxide Film Of Aluminium Alloy, Ai-Ling Du, Xi-Cheng Ma, He-Ming Zhang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Bode diagrams for aluminum PC (abbreviated from pulse current) oxide films were first obtained by AC-impedance measurements in a wide range of frequency. The experimental results show that different kinds of electrical equivalent circuits can be used for representing PC films and DC (abbreviated from direct current) oxide films separately, the main differences between them are their porous layers, the PC films are more even with little defects. Those are also verified by SEM and V-I characteristic curve measurements.

Oxidation And Adsorption Of Deoxyribonucleic Acid At Highly Ordered Pyrolytic Graphite And Glass Carbon Electrode, Jian-Zhang Zhou, Ling-Ling Wu, Jin Luo, Zhong-Hua Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

It is shown that calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) can be adsorbed at highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) electrode and detected by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical atomic force microscopy (ECAFM). It is found that controlled potential pre-polarization influences largely the adsorption of dsDNA while it has little influence on ssDNA. It is demonstrated that ECAFM is useful to exploit adsorption of DNA at HOPGE. The pattern of adsorption of DNA at HOPG electrode that fits best with the experimental data is proposed. The results aslo shows that UV/Vis reflection spectroscopy, which has not been used in studying electrochemical …

Influence Of Ptfe And Nafion On The Utilization Efficiency Of Pt/C Catalyst In Pemfc, Xiao-Liang Cheng, Bao-Lian Yi, Jing-Xin Zhang, Ming Han, Ya-Guang Qiao May 1999

Influence Of Ptfe And Nafion On The Utilization Efficiency Of Pt/C Catalyst In Pemfc, Xiao-Liang Cheng, Bao-Lian Yi, Jing-Xin Zhang, Ming Han, Ya-Guang Qiao

Journal of Electrochemistry

With cycling voltammetry curve(C-V), TEM and SEM photographs, the influence of PTFE and Nafion on the platinum utilization in catalyst layer of PEMFC was investigated. The results show that in gas diffusion electrode, the blocking effect of PTFE in the platinum utilization is not pronunced. In the thin-film catalyst layer, the electron conduct of the catalyst was blocked by the nafion solid and this caused the decrease of platinum utilization. With the increase of the nafion content in the catalyst layer, both platinum utilization and the electron conductivity decreased in the catalyst layer. Because the molecule size of nafion is …

Reversal Flow In Fixed-Bed Reactors Operating Under Reaction-Regeneration Cycles, Daniel O. Borio, Noemi S. Schbib, Jorge E. Gatica

Chemical & Biomedical Engineering Faculty Publications

The unsteady state simulation of a set of industrial fixed-bed reactors is presented. The catalytic dehydrogenation of 1-butene into 1-3-butadiene is selected as case study. These reactors operate under reaction-regeneration cycles. Each stage of the process, i.e., dehydrogenation (deactivation by coking), steam purge, oxidative regeneration and evacuation, is simulated by means of the corresponding dynamic model. The kinetic parameters used in the dehydrogenation and regeneration stages for a Cr2O3/Al2O3 catalyst are taken from the literature. The performance of the reactors is investigated for two different operation modes: conventional …

A New Cell Structure For Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell, Ming Han, Hong-Feng Xu, Bao-Lian Yi

Journal of Electrochemistry

Separating the functions of current collection and gas flow distribution and then to design two separate elements to achieve the desired performance characteristics, a nonconventional cell structure for proton exchange membrane fuel cells bave been developed. The current collector is achieved using a thin stain steel sheet, the gas flow distribution is achieved using a carbon paper that has the desired chemical durabiliy when in contact with the proton exchange membrane. Combining these two separate elements into a single divice yields a bifunctional device that performs as a bipolar separator plate. The advantages of this alternative appproach to making biplar …

Journal of Electrochemistry

The surface of the spherical nickel hydroxide particles used as an active material in pasted nickel electrodes is surface-deposited with cobalt. This paper investigated the effects of the amount of cobalt deposit on the characteristics of nickel hydroxide electrode. The performances of the electrode, such as discharge capacity, utilization of active material and reversibility of Ni(OH)2/NiOOH redox reaction, were studied by comparing the charging/discharging curves and cyclic voltammograms. The mechanism of action of cobalt deposits has been described in terms of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of nickel hydroxide electrode.

Turbulent Burning Model For Premixed Gaseous Mixtures, E Mushi Dec 1998

Turbulent Burning Model For Premixed Gaseous Mixtures, E Mushi

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

A turbulent burning model for premixed gaseous mixtures has been successfully developed. The model assumes instant burning of vortex Tubes of the order of Kolmogorov scale followed by burning of larger eddies of the order of Taylor micro scale. These eddies burn ar a rate dependent On the stretch rate. The influence of turbulence on the burning rate is introduced in the form of probability density function which gives the probability that a given mixture under turbulence will undergo burning rather than being quenched. The model has been validated againsi experiments involving turbulent explosions in a fan stirred bomb. Model …

New Technologies For Thermal Disposal Of Sewage Sludge, T Ogada

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The traditional methods for the disposal of sewage sludge are landfilling, recycling as fertilisers in agricultural lands, dumping into sea and incineration. In thc recent past, Sludge incineration has been rapidly gaining ground duc to environmental constraints facing the Other methods. However, the cost of pollution control during sewage sludge incineration is currently very high due to the expensive flue gas treatment facility required. Futhermore, large quantity Of ash is produced which is highly contaminated with heavy metals and must be disposed off in special landfilling sites in order to avoid ground water pollution. To reduce the cost Of pollution …

A Study On Ring Pack Lubrication In Internal Combustion Engine, I Mshoro

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Most efthe lubricating oil from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is lost through piston rings. Hence, in order to optimally reduce ICE oil consumption, a better insight into tribology of the ring pack is required. This can only be achieved by an inwroved characterization of the lubricant behaviour within the opelating environment of the engine. In The present ieork, an optical tcchnique using laser- induced fluorescence was employed to measure oil film thickness within the ring pack. The experiment was conducted on a Phaser 1000 Series engine, whereby optical access to the ring pack was achieved by a fused silica-window positioned …

At the same potentials, part of the silver atoms are oxidized and form Ag2SO4 …
