Aging aircraft wiring poses a significant threat to both commercial and military aircraft. Recent air disasters involving aging aircraft wiring have made it clear that aging wiring can be catastrophic. Aging of an electrical wiring system can result in loss of critical functions of equipment or loss of information regarding equipment operation. Either result can lead to an electrical failure causing smoke and fire, consequently being a danger to public health and aircraft safety.

Conventional maintenance practices do not effectively manage aging wiring problems. More proactive methods are needed so that aircraft wiring failures can be anticipated and wiring systems …

This study performed an aeroelastic analysis of a joined-wing SensorCraft. The analysis was completed using an aluminum structural model that was splined to an aerodynamic panel model. The force and pressure distributions were examined for the four aerodynamic panels: aft wing, fore wing, joint, and outboard tip. Both distributions provide the expected results (elliptical distribution), with the exception of the fore wing. The fore wing appears to be affected by interference with the joint. The use of control surfaces for lift and roll was analyzed. Control surfaces were effective throughout most of the flight profile, but may not be usable …

The purpose of this study was to identify any potential limitations of Roskam’s statistical aircraft flight performance estimation method, and to provide processes capable of improving those limitations. This project was conducted in collaboration with Diamond Aircraft Industries, and as any other general aviation manufacturer with limited time, manpower, and financial resources, Diamond wants the new process to be time and cost-effective. Numerical Study Of Combustion Of Hydrogen And Ethylene In A Two-Dimensional Dual-Mode Scramjet Combustor, Robert A. Carson

This thesis presents computational fluid dynamics results for two-dimensional flow geometries utilizing two fuels, hydrogen (H2) and ethylene (C2H4). Upstream interaction was evident with the use of both fuels due in part to recirculation in the combustor, the inlet pressures and the combustion process. Results were obtained for hydrogen using a reduced chemical kinetic model while results obtained for ethylene employed a reduced chemical kinetic model as well as an expanded chemical kinetic model.
