Real-Time On-Board Object Tracking For Cooperative Flight Control, Ajay Kumar Mandava, Emma Regentova, Henry Selvaraj
Real-Time On-Board Object Tracking For Cooperative Flight Control, Ajay Kumar Mandava, Emma Regentova, Henry Selvaraj
Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Research
One of possible cooperative Situations for flights could be a scenario when the decision on a new path is taken by A Certain fleet member, who is called the leader. The update on the new path is Transmitted to the fleet members via communication That can be noisy. An optical sensor can be used as a back-up for re-estimating the path parameters based on visual information. For A Certain topology, the issue can be solved by continuous tracking of the leader of the fleet in the video sequence and re-adjusting parameters of the flight, accordingly. To solve such a problem …
Low-Thrust Control Of Orbital Elements, Nathan Harl
Low-Thrust Control Of Orbital Elements, Nathan Harl
Doctoral Dissertations
"This dissertation presents a method for controlling the orbital elements of a spacecraft using continuous low-thrust systems. The method involves the use of a general performance index, which is designed to minimize the difference between the instantaneous orbital elements of a spacecraft and some desired set of orbital elements. Due to the generality of the controller design, the resultant controller can be applied to a wide variety of scenarios about various bodies in space. To minimize the designed performance index, a shooting method and a Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithm are utilized and compared.
The primary application of the general controller …
Constrained Optimal Orbit Design For Earth Observation, Sharon D. Vtipil
Constrained Optimal Orbit Design For Earth Observation, Sharon D. Vtipil
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to demonstrate use requirements for a satellite observation mission can be used to determine a constrained optimal orbit based on observation site requirements, observation condition restraints, and sensor characteristics. The typical Earth observation satellite is first designed according to an appropriate orbit; then the observation requirements are used to develop a target schedule. The new design process outlines the development of the appropriate orbit by incorporating user requirements at the forefront of mission planning, not after an orbit has been selected. This research shows how to map the user requirements into constraints for the …
Solution Approximation For Atmospheric Flight Dynamics Using Volterra Theory, Ashraf Mohammed Kandeel Omran
Solution Approximation For Atmospheric Flight Dynamics Using Volterra Theory, Ashraf Mohammed Kandeel Omran
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations
This dissertation introduces a set of novel approaches in order to facilitate and enrich Volterra theory as a nonlinear approximation technique for constructing mathematical solutions from the governing relationships describing aircraft dynamic behavior. These approaches reconnect Volterra theory and flight mechanics research, which has not been addressed in the technical literature for over twenty years. Volterra theory is known to be viable in modeling weak nonlinearities, but is not particularly well suited for directly describing high performance aircraft dynamics. In order to overcome these obstacles and restrictions of Volterra theory, the global Piecewise Volterra Approach has been developed. This new …
