Collaborative Navigation Method For 5g Cluster Uav Based On Configuration Optimization, Chao Gao, Zheng Huang, Xuan Zhao, Hongxing Wang, Tao Long
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The existing range based cooperative navigation methods for clustered UAVs generally ignore the impact of space configuration on positioning and energy determination, which makes it difficult to obtain the accurate navigation and positioning results. In view of this, a collaborative navigation method is proposed for 5G clustered UAVs based on spatial configuration optimization. The relative ranging error model of UAVs based on 5G signals in complex environments is constructed, and the optimization strategy for collaborative navigation nodes is established based on the minimum geometric division of precision(GDOP) criterion to achieve the real-time optimization of collaborative navigation spatial configuration; A …

Sustainability In Civil And Construction Engineering, Connotations, Paradigms, And Perceptions, Xiaomei Wang
Theses and Dissertations
Over the last four decades, the concept of sustainability has evolved significantly, gaining prominence since the Brundtland report in 1987. Operating at the intersection of built and natural environments, Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) projects and designs inherently impact the natural surroundings. In this context, the concept of sustainability serves not only as a guiding principle to mitigate depletion but also as a pathway to achieving balance among diverse societal needs so every creature can survive and thrive. Despite considerable efforts in this domain, the definition of sustainability within the CCE discipline remains elusive. Paradoxically, the popularity and vagueness of …

Development Of Zr(Iv) Mof-Enabled Nerve Agent Electrochemical Hydrolysis Sensors, Tyler James Marlar
Theses and Dissertations
Nerve agents are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and among the most toxic chemical warfare agents ever synthesized. Detection of these chemicals is critical for the protection of populations and strategic resources. G-series nerve agents are volatile compounds. V-series nerve agents are persistent phosphonothioate compounds. Persistent nerve agents do not readily volatilize and can contaminate environmental resources for extended periods. While nerve agents are inherently non-electroactive, they can be hydrolyzed to electroactive products compatible with electrochemical sensing. Zr(IV) MOFs are next-generation nanoporous materials, which have been shown to rapidly catalyze nerve agent hydrolysis. In this work, the catalytic processes of MOF-808, a specific …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the weak purposiveness of rapidly exploring random tree algorithm in USV path planning, a modified rapid algorithm is proposed. The artificial potential field method is improved and the force analysis in four directions is added to comprehensively calculate the resultant force on USV. The calculation method of steering angle is redefined to avoid entering the local optimal trap and can reach the target point smoothly to obtain an initial path. The initial path is used to set the random point sampling area of rapidly exploring random tree algorithm. By reducing the probability of random points generated in …

Blockchain systems have been successful in discerning truthful information from interagent interaction amidst possible attackers or conflicts, which is crucial for the completion of nontrivial tasks in distributed networking. However, the state-of-the-art blockchain protocols are limited to resource-rich applications where reliably connected nodes within the network are equipped with significant computing power to run lottery-based proof-of-work (pow) consensus. The purpose of this work is to address these challenges for implementation in a severely resource-constrained distributed network with internet of things (iot) devices. The contribution of this work is a novel lightweight alternative, called weight-based reputation (wbr) scheme, to classify new …

Corrosion And Passivation Behavior Of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Produced Ti-6al-4v Under Various Prior Plastic Deformation Strains, P. Qin, L. Y. Chen, Y. J. Liu, S. X. Liang, H. Sun, L. C. Zhang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This work investigated the corrosion behavior of LPBF-produced Ti-6Al-4V under varying compression strains in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. It identifies that increasing compression strain causes significant alterations in the acicular a'-Ti phase (coarsening, breakage, and further coarsening). Corrosion resistance decreases with higher strains due to deformed a'-Ti phases, leading to increased film growth kinetics (from 0.09× 10−10 cm2/s increase to 12.75 × 10−10 cm2/s). Samples under higher strains (e.g., 32%) exhibit fluctuations in corrosion behavior due to initiated cracks and subsequent crevice corrosion. These findings are vital for understanding LPBF-produced Ti-6Al-4V in applications requiring mechanical strength and corrosion resilience.

Adaptive Sampling For Seabed Identification From Ambient Acoustic Noise, Matthew Sullivan
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis discusses distinguishing geoacoustic properties of seabeds by adaptively sampling ambient acoustic measurements using an autonomous underwater vehicle. Modern advancements in seabed characterization motivate an online method for distinguishing between two seabed types using Fourier transformed ambient acoustic noise snapshots. These snapshots are assumed to be associated with their spatial location and seabed, making the goal to organize unlabeled seabed locations. The snapshots are transformed to obtain pairwise similarities between locations. Locations with similarities exceeding a threshold are classified together with the goal of identifying all locations with similarities below this threshold using a process known as level set …

NFL data exhibits a distinct correlation between an elevated lower extremity injury rate and synthetic surfaces. These ubiquitous injuries frequently relate to excessive foot traction (i.e., failure to release causing fracture or soft tissue damage). Consequently, a discrete element model was developed using open-source software to analyze stud traction. First, laboratory data was collected via bench level experiments covering seventeen different testing scenarios. A minimum of twenty-five samples were collected per scenario. Total work, average torque, and maximum torque were used as indicators of stud grip. And the latter two were statistically analyzed for outliers and significant differences. Next, an …

Development Of Novel Radiotherapy Treatment Monitoring And Quantitative Cherenkov Surface Dosimetry For Diverse Populations, Savannah M. Decker
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
In the U.S. alone, nearly 2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer annually, and over half of them will receive radiation therapy throughout the course of their care. While widely regarded as safe, radiation therapy presents unique challenges that other procedures, such as surgery, lack. Namely, the invisible nature of the radiation itself makes it impossible to directly visualize treatment. Many immobilization and localization techniques exist to minimize the chance of incorrect radiation dose delivery, yet incidents still occur. Within the last decade, Cherenkov imaging has emerged as a new radiation therapy delivery verification technique. Cherenkov imaging is unique …

Handling Constrained Multi-Objective Optimization Problems Based On Relationship Between Pareto Fronts, Yubo Wang, Chengyu Hu, Wenyin Gong
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To address the challenges of balancing the constraint satisfaction and objective function optimization, and dealing with the complex feasible regions in constrained multi-objective optimization problems(CMOPs), a classification-based search approach is proposed based on different Pareto front relationships. A dual-population dual-phase framework is proposed in which an auxiliary population Pa and a main population Pm are evolved and the evolution process is divided into a learning phase and a search phase. During the learning phase, Pa explores unconstrained Pareto front (UPF) and Pm explores constrained Pareto front(CPF), through which the relationship between UPF and CPF is determined. After completing the …

Microcapsule Transport And Blockage In Rough-Walled Fractures, Brittney Diana Seaburn
Civil Engineering ETDs
Thermal short-circuiting is a potential problem for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). One solution to this problem is to reduce the permeability of very conductive fractures with thermally degradable microcapsules carrying porous polymers that bond to rock, reducing fluid flow without completely sealing the fracture. This concept requires microcapsules to principally travel in the larger, problematic fractures, minimizing entry into smaller fractures; consequently, understanding the transport and blockage of microcapsules is critical. Using a flow visualization configuration, this study involved quantifying the transport and blockage of microcapsules in transparent fracture replicas. Analyses determined most blockage occurred in regions with local apertures …

Glass corrosion models that capture the complex mechanisms of the glass-water reaction enable the prediction of nuclear waste glass durability in disposal scenarios. Parameterization of such models is challenging because of the need to capture changes in corrosion behavior with time, reaction conditions, and glass composition. Here, we describe and employ the ILAW (immobilized low-activity waste) glass corrosion model (IGCM) in geochemical simulations of static dissolution tests, at two temperatures (40 °C and 90 °C), for a matrix of 24 enhanced low-activity waste (eLAW) glasses statistically designed to cover a processable composition space defined by 8 major glass components (Al …

Successful decoding of structural descriptors controlling the crystallization in multicomponent functional glasses can pave the way for the transition from the trial-and-error approach and empirical modeling for glass/glass-ceramic composition design toward more rational and scientifically rigorous Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) based models. However, due to the compositional and structural complexity of multicomponent glasses and the longer time and length scales associated with nucleation, the development and validation of QSPR models are still in it's infancy. The work presented in the article is an attempt to leap forward in this pursuit by combining the strengths of experimental and computational materials science …

Thermoplastic materials are becoming popular, due to their chemically inert and anti-fouling properties, for use in industrial heat exchanger applications involving heating/cooling of highly reactive fluids like acids. A novel nonconventional joining framework, based on the friction stir welding (FSW) technique, is developed to create high-quality thermoplastic tube-to-tubesheet joints (TTJs). The proposed technique has applications in the thermoplastic shell-andtube heat exchanger and piping industries (as flange-to-pipe joints). The primary objective is to study the feasibility of the FSW technique for developing thermoplastic TTJs, followed by optimization of the process parameters and detailed material characterizations. This work used workpieces (tube, tubesheet) …

Underwater wireless communication networks (UWCNs) can support a wide range of applications in the underwater domain, including mining and drilling, coastline monitoring, border surveillance, and submarine/mine detection. Some of these applications are sensitive in nature (e.g., military) and demand stringent security requirements for data communications. In order to prevent malicious attacks (e.g., jamming) in these UWCNs, robust security countermeasures must be implemented. Additionally, sensitive data communications must be protected. However, computationally expensive security protocols, such as encryption, can severely shorten UWCN lifetime, where battery-powered nodes already suffer from scarce energy supplies. In this work, we exploit content caching as a …
