This paper presents a novel triangular strain-based element designed to address plane stress and strain, axisymmetric, and dynamic problems. The proposed element has four nodes, three of which are located at the vertices and one of which is located at the midpoint of the diagonal. The corner nodes have three essential external degrees of freedom (u, v, θ), while the central node has two degrees of freedom (u, v) on one of the triangle edges. This study explores the efficacy of integrating stroboscopic glasses with smartphone-based applications to evaluate postural control, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional forceplate technology. Athletes, particularly those with visual and visuo-oculomotor enhancements due to sports, often suffer from injuries that necessitate reliance on visual inputs for balance—conditions that can be simulated and studied using visual perturbation methods such as stroboscopic glasses. This paper presents the prototype of a device for measuring the dustiness of powdered materials by means of a new measurement method. The currently employed stationary laboratory device, utilised in KD “Barbara”, uses the attenuation of a radiant flux transmitted through a dust cloud induced by a manually generated air blast. The new device uses the same measurement method, but it includes modern elements based on a microprocessor, a laser line generator instead of an LED diode, and a precise multi-channel detector. PACRR stands for Piloted/Autonomous Crisis Reconnaissance Robot. The aim of PACRR is to create a low-cost, autonomous-capable quadruped robot for first responder applications such as search and rescue, detecting gas leaks, mapping obstructed areas, and other situations that are dangerous or too confined for humans. The design process for PACRR involved the addition of perception sensors to use with a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm, alterations to the power delivery system, adjusting the control of the robot, as well as other hardware and software modifications to an open-source 3D-printed design originally developed at Monash University called DINGO.

Physical activity plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and reducing the risk of various chronic diseases. Step counting has emerged as a popular method for assessing physical activity levels, given its simplicity and ease of use. However, accurately measuring step counts in free-living environments presents significant challenges, with most activity trackers exhibiting a percent error above 20%. A comparison analysis conducted via COMPASS life cycle analysis software has indicated that a one-way crate design, rather than a reusable crate design, is in fact the more environmentally friendly packaging system. This research developed methods for culturing self-assembling capillaries in an injectable gel as a potential method for vascularizing tissue-on-a-chip models to mimic physiological drug delivery. Additionally, a mathematical model was developed as a tool for understanding nutrient delivery and comparison of potential delivery systems. Organs-on-a-chip provide novel platforms for studying biology and physiology in 3D, allow exploration of tissue engineering on a manageable scale, and serve as models for drug screening and drug-delivery testing.

Thermal preconditioning to simulate shipping, handling and storage conditions did not affect distal tip stiffness values for permanently implantable cardiac leads used for pacing and defibrillation. Leads that were subjected to extreme temperatures and temperature cycling did not show changes in buckle force values compared with control specimens which were maintained at ambient room conditions. Absolute differences between all measurements were small, generally under 0.05 N and were attributable to measurement variability.

Buckle force values are used to assess the propensity of leads to perforate the heart, a rare but potentially serious complication of implantable pacing and defibrillation systems. Since …

BBR test is commonly used to assess the low-temperature performance grade (PG) of asphalt binders, with the flexural-creep stiffness being a critical parameter calculated through this test. Creating a sustainable, ethical, and affordable substitute for animal blood in balloon catheter testing for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is important to take into consideration. This research utilizes agarose and dextran to develop hydrogel-based artificial blood clots. These hydro gels replicate the mechanical characteristics of human thrombi across acute, subacute, and chronic stages through their elastic and viscous moduli (G' and G") and phase angles. Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have lost kidney function. 800,000 Americans have end-stage kidney disease resulting in one of the leading causes of mortality cross-listed with diabetes and heart disease. Over the past decade, the percentage of patients using peritoneal dialysis (PD) has nearly doubled.
