Trust-Based Variable Impedance Control And Passivity-Based Switched System Analysis For Human-Robot Cooperative Manipulation, Zhanrui Liao

All Dissertations

Human-robot cooperative manipulation (co-manipulation) is one of the most prominent human-robot collaboration (HRC) tasks, where humans and robots manipulate the same object. Trust in HRC is crucial in determining human acceptance of robots and, hence, robot utilization. A probabilistic dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) trust model that integrates a time-series trust model is presented in this thesis. The trust model is learned using a continuous and normalized Baum-Welch (BW) algorithm, devised to account for the continuous nature of trust evolution and the limitations of the classic parameter learning method. To ensure a good HRC in co-manipulation, a variable impedance control framework …

Ensuring Non-Repudiation In Long-Distance Constrained Devices, Ethan Blum Dec 2023

Ensuring Non-Repudiation In Long-Distance Constrained Devices, Ethan Blum

Honors Theses

Satellite communication is essential for the exploration and study of space. Satellites allow communications with many devices and systems residing in space and on the surface of celestial bodies from ground stations on Earth. However, with the rise of Ground Station as a Service (GsaaS), the ability to efficiently send action commands to distant satellites must ensure non-repudiation such that an attacker is unable to send malicious commands to distant satellites. Distant satellites are also constrained devices and rely on limited power, meaning security on these devices is minimal. Therefore, this study attempted to propose a novel algorithm to allow …

Trojan Detection Expansion Of Structural Checking, Zachary Chapman

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

With the growth of the integrated circuit (IC) market, there has also been a rise in demand for third-party soft intellectual properties (IPs). However, the growing use of such Ips makes it easier for adversaries to hide malicious code, like hardware Trojans, into these designs. Unlike software Trojan detection, hardware Trojan detection is still an active research area. One proposed approach to this problem is the Structural Checking tool, which can detect hardware Trojans using two methodologies. The first method is a matching process, which takes an unknown design and attempts to determine if it might contain a Trojan by …

Neuron infiltration is involved in a multitude of diseased states and is critical in the regeneration of physiologic conditions. Modeling of innervation in three-dimensional, heterogenous, environments would allow early investigation in the crosstalk of neurons and native cells in normal and pathophysiologic microenvironments to gain an understanding of mechanistic functions. This would allow for greater insight into the role of metabolism, cell adhesion, microenvironmental alternations, cellular crosstalk, and signaling pathways that play a role in the promotion and prevention of neurite growth. In this thesis, with the construction of collagen-based hydrogels as the foundation for cell culture, we investigate cell …

Restricted Nonlinear Scales Of Turbulent Secondary Flows Over Spanwise Heterogeneous Roughness, Benjamin A. Minnick, Xiaowei Zhu, Dennice F. Gayme

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Recent studies, e.g., Wangsawijaya et al. (2020) have revealed the prevalence of streak meandering in turbulent flow over spanwise heterogeneous roughness. Here we exploit the scale decomposition inherent in the Restricted Nonlinear (RNL) modeling approach to further investigate this behavior. The RNL decomposition comprises a large-scale streamwise averaged mean with small-scale fluctuations about that mean defined through a dynamical restriction that leads to computational tractability. The simplified setting facilitates the study of secondary flow interacting with the large-scale streak via one-way coupling, thus enabling additional insight into relevant interaction mechanisms. In agreement with the experimental work, our results indicate that …
