In this research, the effect of characteristics of zirconia and metal oxide modified zirconia catalysts on the catalytic performance were investigated by ketonic decarboxylation of methyl stearate to desired ketone product at the optimal condition (400°C and 1 bar). Zirconia and metal oxide modified zirconia catalysts were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), N2-physissorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and IR spectra of pyridine adsorption (Pyridine-IR). Zinc-air batteries are a promising energy storage system due to its high energy density, low toxicity, and low flammability. They are currently used commercially in low-current devices. Batteries for high-current applications are constructed with zinc particles for increased specific surface areas. Nevertheless, the regeneration of zinc particles from dissolved zincate ions in spent electrolytes has been relatively neglected. We fabricate and study a spouted-bed electrochemical reactor for the regeneration of zinc particles from spent electrolytes. This research investigated the mechanism and photocatalytic performance of the selective photocatalytic hydrogenation of different nitroaromatics (Ar-NO2) in several alcohols under UV light using P25-TiO2 at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The effect of Pt-deposited P25-TiO2 on the photocatalytic performance was also studied. Ar-NO2 was converted to aminoaromatics (Ar-NH2) with high Ar-NO2 conversion and Ar-NH2 selectivity at nearly 100%. The amounts of Ar-NH2 were proportional with carbonyl compounds at the ratio around 1:3. Acetaldehyde, acetone, and butanone were produced by oxidation of ethanol, 2-propanol, and butanol, respectively. In this research, the characteristic and catalytic activity of Mg-Al LDH and their metal-modified mixed oxide were investigated. This research was divided into three parts. In the first part, the effect of calcination temperature on catalytic performance via oxidative dehydrogenation of ethanol was elucidated. The results showed that calcination temperature affected the characteristic of Mg-Al LDH, especially basicity. The aim of this research is to investigate the mechanical properties of polydimethylsiloxane reinforced with short silk fibers for suture pad application. The effect of aspect ratio and fibers content of the polydimethylsiloxane reinforced with silk fibers on the properties was evaluated. From the results, tensile modulus and tensile strength of polydimethylsiloxane reinforced with different aspect ratio were increased with increasing aspect ratio and fibers content. This research concentrates on the design and performance analysis of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) integrated system with using methane as fuel. Because SOFCs cannot completely use their fuel, there is remaining fuel leaving the system. In addition, the exhaust gas from an SOFC can be directly fed into an MCFC. The integrated fuel cell system shows an electrical efficiency of 55.22%, which is higher than a single fuel cell system. In this work, we investigated the effect of calcination of nanocrystalline commercial titanium dioxide catalyst (P25) on photocatalytic selective hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene. TiO2 supports were calcined under air, hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere at various temperatures around 600 to 900°C for 5 hours. This research investigated the effect of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) addition to amine-functionalized titanium dioxide (APTMS-TiO2). The loading amount of rGO was varied from 0 to 0.05 %wt. Also, the effect of the amount of 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) was studied. To synthesize TiO2/rGO catalysts, the amount of APTMS was varied at 2.21 and 22.1 mmol. The effects of Ce and/or La on NiO/Al2O3 were studied in chemical looping steam reforming of ethanol. Oxygen carriers (OCs) were prepared by wet impregnation method and characterized by various techniques. The redox test was performed by alternating between fuel feed (FFS) and air feed step (AFS) at 500oC. It was found that Ce- and La-doped improved the OCs' properties. A suitable amount of Ce- and La-doping helped increase carbon tolerance due to oxygen storage capacity and mobility. The solubility limit was found at 50 mol% La in solid solution. This research studied the simulations of the integrated systems between of hydrotreating and hydrogen generation with various selectivity of deoxygenation (DO) pathways (i.e. decarboxylation (DCO2), hydrodecarbonylation (HDCO), and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO)). Two integrated systems were proposed i.e. 1) integrated system between single-step hydrotreating and propane steam reforming (as called "single-step integrated system") and 2) integrated system between two-step hydrotreating (hydrolysis+DO) and glycerol steam reforming (as called "two-step integrated system"). This research investigated the modification of TiO2 electrode by adding the second metal oxide, namely, manganese dioxide (MnO2), cobalt oxide (CoO), or tin dioxide (SnO2) use in for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs). TiO2 and modified TiO2 sols were synthesized via sol-gel methods. The sols were sprayed 500 times onto the fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrates as a thin film using an ultrasonic spray coater. The synthesis of star-shaped poly(ethylene glycol) was synthesized from pentetic acid (PA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) by polycondensation reaction in order to solve the problem of the melt strength of the molten polymer of poly(lactic acid). In this study, the star-shaped poly(ethylene glycol) were synthesized with a different molecular weight of neat poly(ethylene glycol) of 200, 400 and 600 g/mol. Furfuryl alcohol (FA) is an important intermediate for the manufacturing of many fine chemical products such as furan, resin, vitamin C, and lysine. In this research, the selective hydrogenation of furfural to FA was carried out in a batch reactor at 50ºC, 20 bar H2 and 2 h reaction time using Pt (0.5 wt. %) on TiO2 support. This thesis presents an efficient numerical technique capable of handling the stress analysis of three-dimensional cracked bodies strengthened or repaired by adhesively bonded patches. The proposed technique is implemented within the framework of the coupling of the weakly singular boundary integral equation method and the standard finite element procedure. The former is applied to efficiently treat the elastic body containing cracks whereas the latter is adopted to handle both the adhesive layers and the patches. This research investigates the axial compression behavior of fire-damaged circular concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) stub columns externally confined with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets. A total of 38 CFST specimens were tested under axial compression to investigate the load capacity, ductility, stiffness and failure mode of fire-damaged CFST columns before and after strengthening with FRP sheets. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of granite particle on the properties of high strength concrete by the partial substitution as fine aggregate. By grouping two categories as concrete with and without admixture is also performed in this experiment. The granite particle substitution percentage for concrete with admixture is set with 0%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% by weight of fine aggregate and 0%, 10%, 15% and 20% by weight of fine aggregate for concrete without admixture. This thesis presents the numerical studies of steel hollow section columns connected to corbels under industry crane loads, and the stiffening design using steel plates to enhance the maximum loading capacity against premature local buckling failures. The influences of inelastic material properties and geometry nonlinearity on the overall load carrying capacity of the columns were considered. Square hollow section columns were modelled in 3D using standard eight-node solid finite elements using an ANSYS software. The inadequate shear strength of the existing old reinforced concrete columns located in the seismically active areas can lead the catastrophic shear failure. In this study, strengthening of shear-critical reinforced concrete columns by the steel-rod collar method is investigated. This proposed method is less intrusive to the existing building components. The steel-rod collar comprises the four sets of welded steel angles connected by steel-rods threaded at the ends.
