Tragic, life-changing, and fatal incidents are a reality on large-scale, civil construction projects. Despite a decline following the enforcement of the 1971 Occupational Safety and Health Act, serious and fatal incidents on heavy construction projects remain higher than that of the active military and have not declined in any notable way in the past decade. Industrial-organizational literature suggested a lack of applied testing for the well-developed theory of authentic leadership (AL) to impact safety outcomes. This study assesses the effectiveness of an innovative shoulder training and rehabilitation device, the Rotr 1. The device uses mechanically created motion to disturb the balance of muscular forces around the shoulder, thereby facilitating dynamic training of the muscles. The hypothesis is that random disturbances provided by the device would potentially in-crease shoulder muscle activation as users try to resist the device’s motion. This paper investigates the utilization of differential thrust to help a commercial aircraft with a damaged vertical stabilizer in order to regain its lateral/directional stability. In the event of an aircraft losing its vertical stabilizer, the consequential loss of the lateral/directional stability and control is likely to cause a fatal crash. Increasing restrictions on the emitted exhaust emissions in diesel engines are becoming a more challenging task than in previous years. An electronic common rail fuel injection system and a port fuel injection (PFI) system were developed for an experimental engine to research dual fuel combustion. "A foil-based additive manufacturing technology for fabricating metal parts, called Laser Foil Printing (LFP), was proposed and developed in this dissertation. The manufacturing sub-processes comprising the LFP technology were comprehensively studied, which include the laser spot welding of foil, laser raster-scan welding of foil, laser cutting of foil, and laser polishing processes. The fabricated free-form parts were demonstrated and own better mechanical properties (micro hardness and tensile strength) than the raw material, because of the rapid-cooling process of laser welding. "A regular solution model was developed to calculate the chemical driving force for α-martensite formation, ΔGλ→ αChem. A model for the strain energy, ΔGλ→αstr, was formulated utilizing the Young’s modulus (E), lattice misfit squared (δ²), and molar volume (Ω) which opposed the chemical driving force for α-martensite formation.
