Destruction Of Moving Leukemia Cancer Cells In An Extra-Corporeal System Using Continuous Low-Frequency Ultrasound, Dhairya Raval
Theses - ALL
Low frequency ultrasound has been used for therapeutic purposes since a long time. It is non-invasive and thus application for medical purpose is easier. This method has been used in labs for preclinical in-vitro settings to observe the effects of low frequency ultrasound sound on neoplastic cells lines. The human leukemia cell lines are sonic sensitive and when exposed to various low frequencies of ultrasound for an amount of time, can cause their lysis and decrease their viability. The project focuses on using low frequency ultrasound on syringe pump mediated flowing leukemia cell lines and see how much their sonic …

Computational Analysis Of Developmental Disorders In Children, Siri Chandana Sambatur
Theses - ALL
Early developmental disorders are common in children between the ages of 3 through 17. These developmental disorders begin at early ages and affect the day-to-day activities of children. These disorders also impact the growth and lifestyle of children. Most of the time these developmental disorders co-exist in children. The main focus of our research lies in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Deletion syndrome (22q) and their co-occurrences.
Most child psychologists and pediatricians diagnose these disorders in children through parent-based surveys. Our research uses three different parent-based reports: (1) Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI), (2) Behavioral Assessment Schedule for Children (BASC), and …
Multimedia Transmission Over Wireless Networks: Performance Analysis And Optimal Resource Allocation, Chuang Ye
Multimedia Transmission Over Wireless Networks: Performance Analysis And Optimal Resource Allocation, Chuang Ye
Dissertations - ALL
In recent years, multimedia applications such as video telephony, teleconferencing, and video streaming, which are delay sensitive and bandwidth intensive, have started to account for a significant portion of the data traffic in wireless networks. Such multimedia applications require certain quality of service (QoS) guarantees in terms of delay, packet loss, buffer underflows and overflows, and received multimedia quality. It is also important to note that such requirements need to be satisfied in the presence of limited wireless resources, such as power and bandwidth. Therefore, it is critical to conduct a rigorous performance analysis of multimedia transmissions over wireless networks …

Quantitative Measurement Of Cerebral Hemodynamics During Activation Of Auditory Cortex With Single- And Multi-Distance Near Infrared Spectroscopy, Penaz Parveen Sultana Mohammad
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a safe, low-cost, non-invasive opti-cal technique to monitor focal changes in brain activity using neurovascular coupling and measurements of local tissue oxygenation, i.e., changes in concentrations of oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO) and deoxygenated hemoglobin (HbR)[42]. This thesis utilizes two fNIRS approaches to measure hemodynamic changes associated with functional stimulation of the human auditory cortex. The first approach, single-distance continuous wave NIRS (CW-NIRS) utilizes relatively simple instrumentation and the Modified-Beer Lambert (MBL) law to estimate activation induced changes in tissue oxygenation (∆CHbO and ∆CHbR)[17]. The second more complex approach, frequency domain NIRS (FD-NIRS), employs a photon …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In this dissertation, new model reference adaptive control architectures are presented with stability, performance, and robustness considerations, to address challenges related to the verification of adaptive control systems.
The challenges associated with the transient performance of adaptive control systems is first addressed using two new approaches that improve the transient performance. Specifically, the first approach is predicated on a novel controller architecture, which involves added terms in the update law entitled artificial basis functions. These terms are constructed through a gradient optimization procedure to minimize the system error between an uncertain dynamical system and a given reference model during the …
Impact Of Recirculating Nitrified Effluent On The Performance Of Passive Onsite Hybrid Adsorption And Biological Treatment Systems, Amulya Miriyala
Impact Of Recirculating Nitrified Effluent On The Performance Of Passive Onsite Hybrid Adsorption And Biological Treatment Systems, Amulya Miriyala
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Approximately 25% of households in the U.S. treat their wastewater onsite using conventional onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS). These systems typically include a septic tank or a series of septic tanks followed by a soil absorption system. They effectively remove biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), fats and grease but are not designed to remove significant amounts of nitrogen. High nitrogen loading to coastal and ground waters can be dangerous to aquatic life and public health. Hence, there is a need for advanced onsite wastewater treatment systems that can effectively remove nitrogen. Making enhanced nitrogen removal for OWTS …

The Influence Of Heating And Cooling Rates On Tbc Failure In High Heat Flux Tests, Philip Howell, Uwe Rettig, Thorsten Steinkopff, Ramesh Subramanian, Andreas Wolff, Stefan Lampenscherf
Thermal Barrier Coatings V
High heat flux testing is a commonly used procedure to investigate TBC failure modes. Samples of TBC on superalloy are thermally cycled, with the TBC being heated and the superalloy subjected to forced cooling in order to induce a temperature gradient. Typically conditions are deliberately chosen to be more aggressive than in the engine in order to induce TBC delamination or complete spallation within a few days. We have developed a test bench with a CO2 laser as the heat source which, unlike the more commonly used burner rigs, allows exquisite control of the heating and cooling rates. An optical …

Interfacial Toughness Evolution Under Thermal Cycling By Laser Shock And Mechanical Testing Of An Eb-Pvd Coating System, Vincent Guipont, Vincent Maurel, Marion Bartsch, Anne Dennstedt
Thermal Barrier Coatings V
One of the major challenges for coatings on superalloys is to keep adherence during aging, where damage is mostly driven by thermal cycling. On the other hand, the methodology of the evaluation of the interfacial toughness should be consistent with in service loading. Recently, the use of LAser Shock Adhesion Test (LASAT) has shown its capability for both ranking different coating solutions and evaluating the evolution of a given coating as a function of aging [1-2]. The intent of this paper is to demonstrate the ability of LASAT to reproduce damage mechanisms observed under quasi-static in plane mechanical testing and …

The monoclinic (Ni(L)[Ni(CN)4] (L= 1,4-Bis(4-pyridyl) benzene) compound (defined as Ni-dpbz) is a flexible metal organic framework which assumes a pillared structure with layers defined by 2D Ni[Ni(CN)4]n nets and dpbz ligands as pillars. The structure features an entrapped dpbz ligand that links between the open ends of four-fold Ni sites from two neighboring chains. This arrangement results in an unusual 5-fold pseudo square-pyramid environment for Ni and a significantly long Ni-N distance of 2.369(4) Å. Using Density Functional Theory calculations, the different bonding characteristics between the 5-fold and 6-fold Ni's were determined. We found that …

We observe two distinct interevent time patterns in the slip avalanches of compressed bulk metallic glasses (BMGs). Small slip avalanches cluster together in time, but large slip avalanches recur roughly periodically. We compare the timing patterns of BMG slip avalanches with timing patterns of earthquakes and with the predictions of a mean-field model. The time clustering of small avalanches is similar to the known time clustering of earthquake foreshocks and aftershocks.

Design And Characterization Of Polymer Nanocomposites For Engineering Applications, Joseph Richard Nalbach
Design And Characterization Of Polymer Nanocomposites For Engineering Applications, Joseph Richard Nalbach
Theses and Dissertations
Polymer nanocomposites represent an area of materials that can yield useful properties not achievable in bulk materials. Not only can they have such properties but also they can be relatively easy to generate. With dwindling fossil fuels there is an increased need for both new methods to harvest energy and to transport the captured energy more effectively. Two separate nanocomposite materials are created to support this work with dramatically different properties, both to aid in energy efficiency. The first is an energy harvesting foam to fully utilize the structural deformability of such a material. A dissolvable sugar scaffold is combined …

Journal of Electrochemistry
Platinum (Pt) catalysts modified by other suitable metals significantly enhance their electrochemical activities for formic acid oxidation. In this work, a titanium-supported nanoporous network platinum (nanoPt/Ti) electrode was prepared using a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared nanoPt/Ti electrode was modified with a certain amount of lead by using cyclic voltammetry for different scan cycle numbers (n), namely, n = 10, 15, 20 and 30, to synthesize the novel lead-modified nanoporous Pt (nanoPb(n)-Pt/Ti) electrodes. Electro-oxidation of formic acid on these electrodes was studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and chronopotentiometry in sulfuric acid solution. CV curves showed that both nanoPt/Ti …

Regularized Algorithms Of Adaptive Assessment Of State Of Control Objects With Parametric Perturbation Account, Х.Z Igamberdiyev, D.T Kadirov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The problems of constructing stable algorithms for adaptive estimation of the state of control objects with allowance for parametric perturbations based on the theory of conditional Gaussian filtration are considered. Algorithms for estimating the state of stochastic controllable objects using the regularized method of the Cholesky factorization and pseudo-inversion of perturbed symmetric matrices are given. These algorithms allow us to stabilize the procedure for inversion of matrices in estimating the state of stochastic objects and, thereby, to increase the accuracy of determining the true estimate of the state vector when the parameters of the object and the observer are perturbed.

Algorithms For Adaptive Identification Of Parameters Of Stochastic Control Objects, Y.А Yusupov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
Algorithms for adaptive identification of parameters of stochastic control objects are given. The task of identifying a managed object is reduced to the task of estimating the parameters of the regression model on the basis of the generalized least-squares method. Algorithms for the sustainable estimation of object parameters on the basis of stable recurrent procedures are presented. These algorithms allow us to effectively calculate the desired parameters of an identified object under the conditions of the time correlation of the noise acting on the object.
