Repay – Revamping The Reimbursement Process, Esha Joshi Jun 2016

Repay – Revamping The Reimbursement Process, Esha Joshi

Computer Science and Software Engineering

Repay is a streamlined service for interviewees to be repaid by companies. It plays off the idea that many graduating college seniors endure when looking for a job: there is not a hassle-free process for interviewees to be repaid for expenses when traveling to and from an interview. The goal of this senior project was to develop a cross-platform application (iOS and web) with the hopes of improving the reimbursement process for both future employees and company HR representatives. Research suggests that a more simplistic process will allow candidates to receive their money quickly and enhance the overall image of …

We report an integrated whispering gallery mode microresonator-based sensor probe for refractive index sensing. The probe was made by sealing a borosilicate glass microsphere into a thin-wall glass capillary pigtailed with a multimode optical fiber. The intensities of the resonant peaks were found decreasing exponentially (linearly in a log scale) with the increasing refractive index of the medium surrounding the capillary. The sensing capability of the integrated probe was tested using sucrose solutions of different concentrations and the resolution was estimated to be about 2.5 x 10-5 in the index range of 1.3458 to 1.3847. The integrated sensor probe …

This paper looks into some of the attempts at valorization of sludge.

Gpu-Based Image Reconstruction For Real Time X-Ray Fluoroscopy With A Regular Detector Grid, Cholayya Niranjan Jun 2016

Gpu-Based Image Reconstruction For Real Time X-Ray Fluoroscopy With A Regular Detector Grid, Cholayya Niranjan

Manipal Journal of Science and Technology

This paper describes a strategy to parallelize and implement in real-time the multi-plane tomosynthetic image reconstruction algorithm used in common x-ray fluoroscopy systems such as the Scanning Beam Digital X-Ray (SBDX) system, on high performance computing platforms such as general purpose Graphical Processing Units (GPU). The authors contrast two different parallelizing schemata, namely, the detector centric and the pixel centric parallelization approaches under the specific assumption of a regular detector grid and separability of the x and y dimensions. In both of these schemes, the use of look-up tables (LUT) helps to reduce run time computations but requires effective memory …

On The Observability Of Bottom Topography From Measurements Of Tidal Sea Surface Height, Edward D. Zaron Jun 2016

On The Observability Of Bottom Topography From Measurements Of Tidal Sea Surface Height, Edward D. Zaron

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

of whether features of the ocean bottom topography can be identified from measurements of water level is investigated using a simplified one-dimensional barotropic model. Because of the nonlinear dependence of the sea surface height on the water depth, a linearized analysis is performed concerning the identification of a Gaussian bump within two specific depth profiles, (1) a constant depth domain, and, (2) a constant depth domain adjoining a near-resonant continental shelf. Observability is quantified by examining the estimation error in a series of identical-twin experiments varying data density, tide wavelength, assumed (versus actual) topographic correlation scale, and friction. For measurements …

Rf Power Harvesting Rectenna, Jimmy Tang, Raymond Phu, Tom Geranios, Benjamin Muñoz

Electrical Engineering

Sustainability is one of today's primary engineering objectives. This principle involves system design that minimizes environmentally harmful energy emissions and resource consumption, and maximizes renewable energy practices [1]. Communication antennas transmit wireless signals that can be converted into usable energy. The Rectenna system described in this report, shown in Figure 1, was designed to accomplish this energy conversion, with -5dBm (316µW) minimum power at the rectifier input. Since typical ambient signal power is in the -70dBm (0.1nW) range, the proposed system could only convert passive, relatively high-power microwave band AC signals to DC. The Rectenna system was designed for 1.9GHz …
