Phone Lattice Reconstruction For Embedded Language Recognition In Lvcsr, Yuxiang Shan, Yan Deng, Jia Liu, Michael T. Johnson
Phone Lattice Reconstruction For Embedded Language Recognition In Lvcsr, Yuxiang Shan, Yan Deng, Jia Liu, Michael T. Johnson
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research and Publications
An increasing number of multilingual applications require language recognition (LRE) as a frontend, but desire low additional computational cost. This article demonstrates a novel architecture for embedding phone based language recognition into a large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR) decoder by sharing the same decoding process but generating separate lattices. To compensate for the prior bias introduced by the pronunciation dictionary and the language model of the LVCSR decoder, three different phone lattice reconstruction algorithms are proposed. The underlying goals of these algorithms are to override pronunciation and grammar restrictions to provide richer phonetic information. All of the new algorithms …

Sketching 3d Animation, Innfarn Yoo
Sketching 3d Animation, Innfarn Yoo
Department of Computer Graphics Technology Degree Theses
This thesis presents a method for creating natural 3D animation based on sketches. Our method provides novice and professional sketchers an easy, fast, and intuitive way to create three dimensional animations by drawing sketches, enhanced by strokes, and joint trajectory or rotation curves. It also allows searching massive databases of 3D animation as an application for motion capture system and major animation software. We extract 2D skeletons from strokes and find similar motion sequences by comparing all the important pre-generated key poses in database. To give the system more hints, users can draw joint trajectory and rotations curves that are …
Method For The Simulated Layup Of Composite Fabrics, David M. Christensen
Method For The Simulated Layup Of Composite Fabrics, David M. Christensen
Theses and Dissertations
Due to the complexity of designing advanced composite parts, many software tools have been developed to aid the designer and reduce design cycle time. Draping is one of those tools and is used to predict the fiber angles throughout the part. This application of draping is to simulate the actual hand layup process that a technician would go through while creating a multi-layered laminate composite part. This method is the first to use plies as an underlying surface for draping instead of just using an offset mold surface. This method can visualize full 3D ply geometry taking into account the …
Application Of Parametric Nurbs Geometry To Mode Shape Identification And The Modal Assurance Criterion, Evan D. Selin
Application Of Parametric Nurbs Geometry To Mode Shape Identification And The Modal Assurance Criterion, Evan D. Selin
Theses and Dissertations
The dynamic characteristics of a part are highly dependent on geometric and material properties of the part. The identification and tracking of vibrational mode shapes within an iterative design process becomes difficult and time consuming due to the frequently changing part definition. Currently, visual inspection of analysis results is used as the means to identify the shape of each vibrational mode determined by the modal analysis. This thesis investigates the automation of the mode shape identification process through the use of parametric geometry and the Modal Assurance Criterion. Displacement results from finite element modal analysis are used to create parametric …

Generation, Mechanical And Statistical Analysis, And Fem Simulation Of Fracture Of Repeatable Random Rough Surfaces, Hector Medina
Generation, Mechanical And Statistical Analysis, And Fem Simulation Of Fracture Of Repeatable Random Rough Surfaces, Hector Medina
Theses and Dissertations
Natural weathering and wear of structural materials in service nearly always generate surface roughness, and follow the Central Limit Theorem prediction for surface topology. This study couples experimental and statistical theory, and FEM to extend knowledge of life of materials from initial service surface conditions through surface damage accumulation. Statistical moments and other parameters were correlated with fracture locations probability (H/N), versus auto correlation length, and depth. As the surface grows to a full Gaussian, H/N increases its dependence on profile’s Average and RMS Roughness, and derived parameters. This dependence shows an asymptotic limit behavior that approaches agreeably Griffith’s crack …

Room Temperature Deposition Of Alumina-Doped Zinc Oxide On Flexible Substrates By Direct Pulsed Laser Recrystallization, Martin Y. Zhang, Qiong Nian, Gary J. Cheng
Birck and NCN Publications
In this study, a method combining room temperature pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and direct pulsed laser recrystallization (DPLR) is introduced to deposit transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layer on low melting point flexible substrates. Alumina-doped zinc oxide (AZO), as one of the most promising TCO candidates, has now been widely used in solar cells. However, to achieve optimal, electrical, and optical properties of AZO on low melting point, flexible substrate is challenging. DPLR technique is a scalable, economic, and fast process to remove crystal defects and generate recrystallization at room temperature. It features selective processing by only heating up the TCO …

The Integration Of High-K Dielectric On Two-Dimensional Crystals By Atomic Layer Deposition, Han Liu, Kun Xu, Xujie Zhang, Peide Ye
Birck and NCN Publications
We investigate the integration of Al2O3 high-k dielectric on two-dimensional (2D) crystals of boron nitride (BN) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) by atomic layer deposition (ALD). We demonstrate the feasibility of direct ALD growth with trimethylaluminum and water as precursors on both 2D crystals. Through theoretical and experimental studies, we found that the initial ALD cycles play the critical role, during which physical adsorption dominates precursor adsorption at the crystal surface. We model the initial ALD growth stages at the 2D surface by analyzing Lennard-Jones potentials, which could guide future optimization of the ALD process on 2D crystals. (C) 2012 American …

Extensions Of Multistage Stochastic Optimization With Applications In Energy And Healthcare, Ludwig Charlemagne Kuznia
Extensions Of Multistage Stochastic Optimization With Applications In Energy And Healthcare, Ludwig Charlemagne Kuznia
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation focuses on extending solution methods in the area of stochastic optimization. Attention is focused to three specific problems in the field. First, a solution method for mixed integer programs subject to chance constraints is discussed. This class of problems serves as an effective modeling framework for a wide variety of applied problems. Unfortunately, chance constrained mixed integer programs tend to be very challenging to solve. Thus, the aim of this work is to address some of these challenges by exploiting the structure of the deterministic reformulation for the problem. Second, a stochastic program for integrating renewable energy sources …

Simulations Of Controlled Fires Using The One-Dimensional Turbulence Model With Application To Fire Spread In Wildland Fires, Elizabeth Ida Monson
Simulations Of Controlled Fires Using The One-Dimensional Turbulence Model With Application To Fire Spread In Wildland Fires, Elizabeth Ida Monson
Theses and Dissertations
The mechanism of flame propagation in fuel beds of wildland fires is important to understand and quantify fire spread rates. Fires spread by radiative and convective heating and often require direct flame contact to achieve ignition. The flame interface in an advancing fire is unsteady and turbulent, making study of intermittent flames in complex fuels difficult. This thesis applies the one-dimensional turbulence (ODT) model to a study of flame propagation by simulating a lab-scale fire representative of the flame interface in a fuel bed and incorporating solid fuel particles into the ODT code. The ODT model is able to resolve …

Enhancement Factors For The Vertical Response Of Footbridges Subjected To Stochastic Crowd Loading, Colin Caprani, Joe Keogh, Paul Archbold, Paul Fanning
Enhancement Factors For The Vertical Response Of Footbridges Subjected To Stochastic Crowd Loading, Colin Caprani, Joe Keogh, Paul Archbold, Paul Fanning
Articles
The vertical acceleration response of a hypothetical footbridge is predicted for a sample of single pedestrians and a crowd of pedestrians using a probabilistic approach. This approach uses statistical distributions to account for the fact that pedestrian parameters are not identical for all pedestrians. Enhancement factors are proposed for predicting the response due to a crowd based on the predicted accelerations of a single pedestrian. The significant contribution of this work is the generation of response curves identifying enhancement factors for a range of crowd densities and synchronization levels.
Laser-Induced Multi-Energy Processing In Diamond Growth, Zhiqiang Xie
Laser-Induced Multi-Energy Processing In Diamond Growth, Zhiqiang Xie
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Laser-induced multi-energy processing (MEP) introduces resonant vibrational excitations of precursor molecules to conventional chemical vapor deposition methods for material synthesis. In this study, efforts were extended to explore the capability of resonant vibrational excitations for promotion of energy efficiency in chemical reactions, for enhancement of diamond deposition, and for control of chemical reactions. The research project mainly focused on resonant vibrational excitations of precursor molecules using lasers in combustion flame deposition of diamond, which led to: 1) promotion of chemical reactions; 2) enhancement of diamond growth with higher growth rate and better crystallizations; 3) steering of chemical reactions which lead …
