Musical Sound Source Separation Using Extended Tensor Decompositions, Derry Fitzgerald

Recently, tensor decompositions have found use in sound source separation. In particular, non-negative tensor decompositions have received a lot of attention due to their ability to decompose audio spectrograms into meaningful ”parts” such as individual notes. Extensions to the basic non-negative tensor factorisation framework allow the incorporation of additional constraints, such as shift-invariance in both frequency and time. This enables the factorisations to capture more complex structures than individual notes, such as individual sources playing different pitches and time-evolving instrument timbres. Further music specific constraints such as harmonicity and source-filter modeling have been shown to improve separation performance for musical …

Using Tensor Factorisation Models To Separate Drums From Polyphonic Music, Derry Fitzgerald, Matt Cranitch, Eugene Coyle

This paper describes the use of Non-negative Tensor Factorisation models for the separation of drums from polyphonic audio. Improved separation of the drums is achieved through the incorporation of Gamma Chain priors into the Non-negative Tensor Factorisation framework. In contrast to many previous approaches, the method used in this paper requires little or no pre-training or use of drum templates. The utility of the technique is shown on real-world audio examples.

This work presents a new multiple objective evolutionary algorithm to solve three well known network reliability allocation problems considering different conflicting objectives to be optimized simultaneously. The new algorithm is applied in the design of a telecommunication network that is formed for several stations or nodes interconnected by telecommunication links or paths. The problem presented in this work involves finding which links to activate in order to obtain connectivity in the nodes. The number of nodes that need to be connected depends of the case that is being evaluated. The three network reliability problems considered are: all-terminal, k-terminal, and two-terminal. …

Recently safety of microwave cooked food has come under scrutiny because of recent outbreak and recalls associated with some of these not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) frozen foods. Heating uniformity of these foods is paramount in rendering the foods safe for consumption. Degree of uneven microwave heating is influenced by both microwave oven and characteristics of food load which decides the electric field distribution within the food load. Coastal bermudagrass is a promising lignocellulosic feedstock for bioethanol production. It is well suited for the Southeastern United States where it is currently grown for hay production and nutrient management in animal farming operations. Prior experiments have generated sugar and sugar degradation data from the dilute acid pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of bermudagrass over a range of pretreatment conditions. Experimentally, the yield of total glucose and xylose was maximized at 93 % of the theoretical value for the pretreatment conditions 140 °C and 1.2 % sulfuric acid (w/w) for a residence time of 30 minutes.
