Mutual Coupling Impedance Effect On Ris-Assisted Terahertz Communication, Radwa A. Roshdy Dr., Hossam M. Kasem Prof., Mohammed A. Salem Dr.

Journal of Engineering Research

Terahertz (THz) communication based on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) is a promising technology in future wireless networks, with the capabilities of ultra-high data rates and energy-efficient beam communicating. Nevertheless, the mutual coupling impedance of the closely spaced RIS reveals the inefficacy in existing channel estimation schemes, while it is usually ignored in the literature. In this paper, we fill this gap by developing an EM-compliant channel model that integrates mutual coupling explicitly for RIS-assisted THz systems. We evaluate the performance of mutual impedance-induced influence to the accuracy of the root mean square error (RMSE), which is considered as a pivotal …

Shear Strength Enhancement Of Soft Clay Using Lime Columns: A Large-Scale Experimental Study, Mostafa Elsawwaf Prof, Waseim Azzam Prof, Ahmed Sami Fouad

Journal of Engineering Research

Soft clay soil is often classified as problematic due to its low shear strength and high compressibility, which can cause significant structural damage. To mitigate these issues, various soil stabilization techniques have been developed, including the use of lime columns, fly ash, and crushed bricks. In this study, a large-scale direct shear device was designed and constructed to evaluate the impact of lime column stabilization on the shear strength of soft clay. The shear box measured 20 cm in height, 30 cm in length, and 30 cm in width. A hydraulic piston applied shear force by moving the lower shear …

A Hybrid Binary Grey Wolf Optimizer Based On De Algorithm For Feature Selection, Amany Saad Abdelrazek, Basma Ghareeb Elkilany, M. Arafa

Journal of Engineering Research

Feature selection is one kind of optimization problem that has bio-objective functions, where it is necessary to get the minimum number of features that achieve high classification accuracy. According to literature studies, several kinds of meta-heuristic algorithms have been utilized to solve feature selection problems. One of these meta-heuristic algorithms is the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm and its modified variants, including the binary versions. They have yielded competitive results compared to other algorithms. Despite the simplicity and effectiveness of GWO and its modified versions, they face challenges related to the exploitation ability of the local search. To avoid premature …

Experimental Investigation On The Effect Of Using Gasoline With Commercial Additives On Spark Ignition Engines Performance And Emissions Characteristic, Medhat Elkelawy Prof. Dr, Eng., E. A. El Shenawy Prof. Dr., Hagar Alm-Eldin Bastawissi, Emad Mostafa Eng.

Journal of Engineering Research

Gasoline is the primary source of energy in combustion engines, despite some drawbacks, such as knocking inside the engine, incomplete combustion, and the production of high emissions. The main trend has been toward the use of chemical additives as improvers, including oxidizing additives and aromatic hydrocarbon compounds. Both additives have an effect on the combustion process. Oxidizing additives improve the combustion process inside the chamber by adding additional oxygen to the fuel, which helps accelerate flame propagation, such as ethanol and oleo-octane plus. On the other hand, aromatic additives are used to increase the octane number, which in turn enhances …

Investigation Of Activated Carbon From Rice Waste Using Superheated Steam, Wael Abdelmoez, Jehan Tolba, Hiroyuki Yoshida, Sherif Ahmed Kamal

Journal of Engineering Research

Activated carbon is essential in many industries and applications, especially in removing odor and color in sewage treatment plants. The most common activated carbon used is generated from coconut shells, which are difficult to obtain in many countries, especially in the Middle East, as coconut trees do not grow in the environment there; therefore, it was essential to find local alternatives from the national agricultural waste. This study presents the investigation of activated carbon from rice husks using superheated steam in a rotary kiln. The effect of thermal activation on the porosity of the activated rice husks at different temperatures …

An Eulerian-Pfem Approach To Model Transient Capillary Forces On Moving Contact Lines Of Spreading Liquid Drops: Applications In Hydraulic And Fluid Dynamics, Elaf N. Mahrous, Syed Yousufuddin, Muhammad Saleem Professor, Mohammed N. Iqbal, Muhammad T. Bin-Saleem

Journal of Engineering Research

This study addresses the complexities of simulating multiphase flows, particularly the dynamics of droplet behaviour on solid substrates, which are influenced by intricate capillary interactions. Despite advancements in fixed-grid and moving-grid methodologies, there remains a critical gap in accurately modelling transient phenomena and dissipative forces at the solid-liquid interface. We introduce a novel Eulerian-particle finite element method (PFEM) framework that captures the transient capillary forces associated with the movement of contact lines in liquid droplet spreading scenarios. Through a numerical assessment of three established dissipative force models—Jiang’s, Bracke’s, and Seeberg’s we identify Jiang's model as the most effective and stable …

Evaluation Of Coal Properties Used In A Cement Plant, Geun-Seong Lee, Farrukh B. Erkinov, Mastura Kh. Aripova

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Coal is not only a heat source for clinker burning but also the coal ash after combustion plays a large role in the quality of clinker mixed with hot meals in the kiln. Since the properties of coal vary depending on the coalification and environment in which it was sedimented, the quality of coal supplying to cement plant can change greatly depending on the coal seam even if it is from the same coal mine. Therefore, the coal used in a cement plant should have its properties measured accurately through representative sampling whenever it is supplied to the plant, and …
