The goal of the project was to develop an interactive display to demonstrate the inherent beauty and complexity of fluid flows as a tool for informal science education for the campus community and its visitors. The project was successfully completed with the installation of our display at the main Library.

On March 22, 2014 the IEEE Student Branch at Utah State University hosted the first annual Student-Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) at the USU campus. The conference was attended by more than 170 students from Electrical, Computer and Mechanical Engineering. Keynote speakers included Jonathan Chew, a Walt Disney Imagineer, and Mike Andrews from IEEE Region 6. The purpose of S-PAC is to “increase professional awareness among engineering students.” Workshops during the conference focused on teaching practical skills and included “Finding Internships” and “Job Offer Negotiation” by USU Career Services, “Teach Yourself MATLAB” by students in the IEEE council, and “Starting as …

We are facing a global energy crisis caused by world population growth, an escalating increase in demand, and continued dependence on fossil-based fuels for generation. It is widely accepted that increases in greenhouse gas concentration levels, if not reversed, will result in major changes to world climate with consequential effects on our society and economy. This is just the kind of intractable problem that Purdue University’s Global Policy Research Institute seeks to address in the Purdue Studies in Public Policy series by promoting the engagement between policy makers and experts in fields such as engineering and technology.

A method of inhibiting or preventing bonding between snow or ice and a substrate. The method includes applying an adhesive to the substrate, broadcasting an aggregate onto the adhesive, the aggregate having the capacity to receive an anti-icing chemical into the aggregate, and applying the antiicing chemical onto the aggregate so that at least a portion of the anti-icing chemical is received into at least a portion of the aggregate.

Synthesis Of Carbon Nitrides From Carbon Dioxide, Yun Hang Hu

Michigan Tech Patents

Provided are methods of converting carbon dioxide to carbon nitrides. In a first reaction, carbon dioxide may be reacted with metal nitrides, such as Li.sub.3N, to form carbon nitrides in a fast and exothermic reaction. Also provided are methods of using product metal cyanamides from the first reaction to subsequently generate additional carbon nitrides.

This ten-week summer program provides undergraduate students in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline with intensive experience in engineering education research, such as how learners’ experience, background, and perception play a role when they learn engineering knowledge and skills. The program provides research experience for undergraduates (REU) and is not an internship. The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and hosted by Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah, a beautiful city nestled between two mountain ranges.

How Robotics Programs Influence Young Women’S Career Choices: A Grounded Theory Model, Cecilia D. Craig

Women in college, alumnae of a well-known high school robotics program, shared how it influenced their career choices and who they have become in this qualitative study. A general system theory model was developed using grounded theory practices, after conducting online focus groups and interviews.
