Characteristics Of Unmanned Aircraft System (Uas) Sightings And Airport Safety, Cheng Wang
Characteristics Of Unmanned Aircraft System (Uas) Sightings And Airport Safety, Cheng Wang
Purdue Road School
The prevalence of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) has grown dramatically in recent years. With increasing UASs, an important consideration is UAS sightings around airports. A UAS sighting may result in an airport delay or shutdown, which disrupts airport operations and can lead to significant economic losses. This presentation discusses the characteristics of UAS sightings based on reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and how these UAS sightings relate to airport operations.

Design, Collaborate, Thrive: The Broad Ripple Avenue Project, Jessica Hawley, Emily Nelson, Ericka Miller
Purdue Road School
Broad Ripple Avenue (College Avenue to Winthrop Avenue) needed large-scale stormwater improvements. With the help of the Lochmueller Group and the Broad Ripple Village Association, Indianapolis DPW perceptively took this opportunity to also improve pedestrian facilities and regional multi-modal connectivity by combining multiple regional projects into one construction contract. This consolidation allowed for a cohesive public message through proactive public involvement. Presenters will share how consensus was built between invested parties through a successful public and private partnership.

Airport Operational Sustainability Practices In Us Small Hub Airports, Caroline K. Marete
Purdue Road School
Operational sustainability focuses on everyday activities that facilitate seamless and efficient operations of an airport. While a holistic view of sustainability is necessary when planning for the long term, each of the four dimensions of sustainability can be assessed independently. This session will analyze data, including sustainable master plans, from US small hub airports to assess the effectiveness of operational sustainability initiatives. Participants will learn the benefits of incorporating sustainability in airport planning and promoting the adoption of sustainability planning in airports of all sizes.

So, You Want To Build A Hangar?, Carla M. Fischer
Purdue Road School
Driven by corporate growth, companies are buying, maintaining, and piloting their own fleets of planes. Companies need a place to store and care for these multi-million-dollar assets, so the demand for corporate hangars is growing. But hangars aren’t like other commercial buildings; they have distinctive features from other structures. This presentation will address how clients need to work with aviation designers to educate themselves on the distinct characteristics of hangars and construction in an airport environment.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) responded to one its worst transportation challenges ever when historic flooding struck Appalachia and Eastern Kentucky counties in 2022. The transportation agency responded immediately to the disaster, and in the months following the event, KYTC was charged with assessing bridges for safety, clearing roads and streams, and restoring access to allow responders to reach those in need. New programs were quickly developed to address needs ranging from the installation of temporary bridges to the creation of temporary shelters for displaced residents. During this, C2 Strategic Communications partnered with KYTC to develop a communications campaign to …

Raman Spectroscopy - An Analytical Tool For Biologics, Cindy Mayorga, Shreya Milind Athalye, Mohit Verma
Raman Spectroscopy - An Analytical Tool For Biologics, Cindy Mayorga, Shreya Milind Athalye, Mohit Verma
Graduate Industrial Research Symposium
Raman Spectroscopy (RS) is a non-invasive technique that analyses biomolecules qualitatively and quantitatively. Raman spectroscopy measures the inelastic scattering of light due to molecular vibrations. It can be applied to liquid, solid, or semi-solid forms of the biological sample reducing the sample preparation measures. The minimal sample preparation and non-invasive nature of Raman Spectroscopy can be applied in developing a Process analytical technology (PAT) tool and as a diagnostic tool. We demonstrated qualitative and quantitative measurements of biologics with Raman spectroscopy through our previous studies. Our results indicate that RS distinguishes various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and a mixture …
Design Of A Virtual Lab For Plate Heat Exchanger Sterilization System, Daniel N. Hauersperger
Design Of A Virtual Lab For Plate Heat Exchanger Sterilization System, Daniel N. Hauersperger
Graduate Industrial Research Symposium
Online learning has become a staple in contemporary education, requiring new ways to display and promote experiences. Virtual labs can be used to give learners a way to enter a lab environment without the need for expensive equipment or materials. One example is to give students a “hands-on” experience using a sterilization process to preserve biological materials. Sterilization systems incorporate heat exchangers to bring product up to temperature and then cool product down quickly to prevent excess degradation of nutrients. Data generated from virtual labs will allow learners to use the system responses and build their understanding of how the …
