Corrosion Of Highway Structures By Acid-Bearing Drainage Water In Hopkins County, James H. Havens

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Pursuant to your conversation with Mr. Hopgood concerning the above matter, Mr. Peed and I contacted Mr. Charlie Rogers, Resident Engineer, Madisonville, and made an inspection of the locations in question. In specific connection with this, you will recall from our Progress Report No. 1 on "A Survey of Acidity in Drainage Waters and the Condition of Highway Drainage Installations" that the acid conditions in Hopkins County were rated as extremely severe, if not the most critical in the state. It was, in part, due to the prevailing severity there that led to the selection of a location at Mortons …

A Study In Emulsions, Edward Arthur Morse May 1952

A Study In Emulsions, Edward Arthur Morse

Theses

An emulsion is a dispersion of one liquid in another liquid, the liquids being insoluble in each other. An emulsion consists of two phases, a continuous phase and a dispersed phase. The dispersed phase consists of tiny droplets or particles of one liquid which is completely surrounded by the other liquid comprising the continuous phase. One of the many factors affecting the stability of an emulsion is the size of the particle of the dispersed liquid.

This study is concerned with one emulsion prepared by different mechanical devices and under different conditions. The units of equipment employed are Eppenbach Colloid …

The Sedimentary Petrography Of The Oil And Gas Producing Horizons In Montana, Patrick J. Donahue May 1952

The Sedimentary Petrography Of The Oil And Gas Producing Horizons In Montana, Patrick J. Donahue

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Montana is an excellent oil province, as oil and gas are produced from a wider range of beds in the geologic section than in any other district in the United States. (1,864) Commercial fields have been developed in Ordovician, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, Jurassic, Lower Cretaceous, and Upper Cretaceous. It is believed that by describing the physical characteristics of the producing horizons, and by placing this information in one compact volume, a better understanding of oil and gas occurrence in Montana may be gained.

The Effect Of Ferric Iron Upon The Current Efficiency And The Deposition Of Copper In The Electrowinning Of Copper From Copper Sulphate Solutions, James L. Owings

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

In the hydrometallurgy of copper, probably the most widely used method for the precipitation of copper is by electrolysis using insoluble anodes. The process is similar in many respects to the electrolytic refining of copper; one of the main differences is the use of insoluble anodes in electrowinning as compared to the use of impure copper anodes in electrorefining. Impurities, however, are common to both processes. The nature of these impurities differ and the problem of purifying the electrolyte is also different.
