Navigating Perceptions: How Organizational Type And Message Source Affect Willingness To Fly In Automated Air Taxis, Cody James Sweatt

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

A new era of transportation and business is beginning to emerge. Advanced air mobility (AAM), which uses highly automated aircraft that transport passengers and cargo in the underutilized, low-altitude airspace above and around urban areas, is rapidly becoming a reality (FAA, 2023). These new companies will utilize air taxis, which are automated, electric, vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and will potentially foster a revolutionary new commerce infrastructure. Unfortunately, it is not currently understood how the credibility of a message source or specific type of organization that owns and operates an automated air taxi company influences a customer’s willingness to …

An Exponential Cone Integer Programming And Piece-Wise Linear Approximation Approach For 0-1 Fractional Programming, Hoang Giang Pham, Thuy Anh Ta, Tien Mai

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We study a class of binary fractional programs commonly encountered in important application domains such as assortment optimization and facility location. These problems are known to be NP-hard to approximate within any constant factor, and existing solution approaches typically rely on mixed-integer linear programming or second-order cone programming reformulations. These methods often utilize linearization techniques (e.g., big-M or McCormick inequalities), which can result in weak continuous relaxations. In this work, we propose a novel approach based on an exponential cone reformulation combined with piecewise linear approximation. This allows the problem to be solved efficiently using standard cutting-plane or branch-and-cut procedures. …

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

This article discusses the automation of the methanol-acetone mixture absorption process to improve control efficiency. The existing local automatic control system (ACS) was upgraded to a cascade system, reducing component concentration deviations by 12% and decreasing the transition process time from 1606 to 1592 seconds. A mathematical model of the gas absorption process was developed, incorporating material balance equations, mass transfer equations, and transfer functions. The parameters of the PI controller were calculated to ensure system stability under ±10% coefficient variations. A comparative analysis of system characteristics before and after modernization confirmed a reduction in overshoot to 0% and an …

Wet Gas Metering Performance Using Conventional Flow Measurement Devices, Vitali Mwinyi Jun 2025

Wet Gas Metering Performance Using Conventional Flow Measurement Devices, Vitali Mwinyi

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The demand for and production of natural wet gas from wells has significantly risen in recent years. Although natural gas liquids hold substantial value in the oil and gas market, their presence in wet gas adversely affects gas metering, leading to overreading during measurement. A comprehensive study has been undertaken to formulate and enhance correlations for rectifying overreading in wet gas metering. Nevertheless, most current correlations are designed for horizontal configurations of traditional meters. Mitigating this constraint is crucial to consider the impact of gravity on pressure loss in vertically oriented systems. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of …
