This report outlines the evaluation of the summer school which was a key element of the PROFESS 12 project. The key steps involved in the 5-day summer school along with the method by which the feedback and the reflections of the participants of the summer school were collected is described here. Thereafter, the reflections received in the form of audio and text files are analysed and themes identified from the experience of the summer school participants are explained in detail.

The survey responses from the feedback on the summer school participation are also shown graphically. This analysis helped us identify …

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to better understand the role and impact of video research podcasts in bridging the gap between academia and the general public, especially concerning the challenges of accessibility and comprehension of scholarly research.

Methods: A 10-question survey was administered to evaluate the effectiveness, utility, and acceptance of video recordings in research presentations. The survey also aimed to gather insights into the motivations, challenges, and benefits of using video podcasts for research dissemination. Results were then analyzed using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model.

This evaluation of teaching examined the Fall 2023 semester of ENVE 210: Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering. The purpose of this study was to change the format of the class from a lecture-based to a flipped classroom approach through the use of pre-lectures, in-class problem sets and group work activities. In addition, this study aimed to better adapt chemical engineering textbook content related to mass and energy balances to environmental engineering by creating new environmental engineering specific and sustainable development problems. Executive Summary

Life on a shared island, in particular the island of Ireland (comprising Ireland and Northern Ireland), presents both challenges and opportunities, including for engineers tasked with addressing problems to help solve the SDGs that are indifferent to boundaries. Research demonstrates that (relative to current engineers) the engineer of the future will require a more diverse range of skills to navigate an increasingly complex work environment. Given this context, identification of relevant priority skills would therefore prove useful in focusing engineering educational initiatives.

The issue of gender inequality in computing field is well known and one of the efforts to address it is the development of a gender equality toolkit (TechMate), with one initiative (action) in the toolkit being personalised feedback. Generative-Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) has emerged as a transformative force profoundly influencing, if not revolutionizing the way we now teach and how students learn in higher education (HE). Despite the initial flurry of early research studies following the raising of public awareness of Gen-AI (and in particular ChatGPT), enduring pragmatic questions remain for academic staff on how best to protect and promote student learning, how to meaningfully support assessment integrity from a curriculum perspective, and additionally how to effectively use Gen-AI technologies to aid learning and foster deeper critical thinking.

This is a complete evidence-based practice paper. In 2019, a new semester-long course project was developed for our university’s first-year engineering program that aimed to introduce students to the engineering design process (EDP) in an engaging and relevant way. Students in our small undergraduate-only engineering program earn Bachelors of Science degrees in Engineering, with a specialization in civil, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or a custom area. This study uncovers the perspective on the entrepreneurship education of senior high school students on the university campus. This paper is employed a descriptive research design using a survey ques-tionnaire for the respondents. The survey found that respondents are willing to engage in business be-tween one to 10 years after college. The willingness is due to the encouragement from their parents, independent decision-making, building self-confidence and knowledge, and chasing their dreams. However, there are two significant factors that hinder this, including a need for more business investment and experience. Postsecondary students with disabilities (SWDs) face significant challenges to their academic and personal well-being. There is a demand for more supportive strategies to facilitate fulfilling and equitable academic experiences for SWDs. This review aimed to (1) determine the effectiveness of various interventions, programs, and accommodations for enhancing the overall well-being of postsecondary SWDs and (2) evaluate the implications of these support strategies for disability service providers at postsecondary institutions. A narrative review was conducted, examining 13 studies aimed at enhancing the well-being of postsecondary SWDs.
