Attainable And Sustainable Home Building Solutions, Katrina Matthews
Attainable And Sustainable Home Building Solutions, Katrina Matthews
Construction Management
Sustainability has fortunately been a recent concern in the construction industry as climate change continues to impose potentially insurmountable threats to the global environment. Although many new methods have been adopted in efforts to lessen the adverse environmental effects of construction-related activities, as a society, we still have much room for growth as the built environment accounts for almost 50% of global emissions. Many changes and standards must be adopted to make these solutions efficiently beneficial. To set industry standards, we must start with the most basic form of construction- residential building. This report covers two attainable framing solutions for …
Understanding The Legal Impacts Of Integrated Project Delivery And Building Information Modeling, Samuel Chris Wong
Understanding The Legal Impacts Of Integrated Project Delivery And Building Information Modeling, Samuel Chris Wong
Construction Management
This research paper aims to understand the legal ramifications of using integrated project delivery (IPD) and Building information Modeling (BIM) regarding shared risk and reward between parties and impacts of contract law. Using IPD and BIM allows for projects to be more collaborative and work through issues quickly. However, shared design can lead to legal issues that may cause problems if not resolved or accounted for at the beginning of the project. This paper serves as research to further understand the legal consequences of integrating IPD and BIM into construction projects in the United States. There are some differences to …
City Farm Slo Educational Pizza Oven, Koby J. Ramage
City Farm Slo Educational Pizza Oven, Koby J. Ramage
Construction Management
City Farm SLO is a nonprofit that educates the public about growing food, and they donate the produce to food banks and communities in need. Their mission is to promote healthy living through sustainable agriculture and farm-based education. This senior project is to build them an educational pizza oven for them to use in their classes. With it they will give lessons where they cook pizzas using ingredients that they grow on site. To do this, the builder had to make it lightweight and able to move around the property to different meeting places and outdoor classrooms. It is also …
Using Virtual Reality And Construction Software To Transform Construction Facilities, Jacqueline Ana Badal
Using Virtual Reality And Construction Software To Transform Construction Facilities, Jacqueline Ana Badal
Construction Management
The objective of this project is to analyze construction jobsite facilities, specifically portable restroom facilities, and brainstorm how they can be redesigned to better suit the needs of women and individuals working on site. Portable toilets endure a great amount of weathering throughout the duration of the project and can become extremely unsanitary and often riddled with profanity. This can create an unclean and unwelcoming environment, especially for women working on the jobsite. The purpose of this project is to create a discussion around jobsite safety, starting with portable toilets. This is done using construction technology. Virtual reality was used …

The Viability Of Electrification For Industrial Off-Road Vehicles In Construction, Caden Patrick Stoker
Construction Management
Federal and State legislation has been passed limiting the prospective propulsion options for heavy industrial off-road vehicles that general contractors can operate on the jobsite. The interest behind this research project is the viability of introducing fully electric off-road construction vehicles into the heavy civil construction industry and if the timeline for implementation is realistic or optimistic. As new rules and regulations pertaining to the future emissions requirements of civilian and commercial vehicles effect the country, the construction industry is spending billions in order to develop (and are currently developing) fully electric off-road industrial vehicles (dozers, front loaders, scrappers, dump …

Profitability Analysis Of The Commons, Chloe E. Meyer
Profitability Analysis Of The Commons, Chloe E. Meyer
Construction Management
Given the current saturated housing market, prices of single-family dwellings have exponentially increased. Due to this housing crisis, alternative housing approaches need to be considered. One potential solution to increasing the supply of affordable housing units is a tiny house village community. Tiny house communities can carry with them a stigma of rundown looks and an RV park aesthetic, but they don't need to. Tiny house communities, at their best, can be thriving communities that are anchored in communal living, shared resources, and affordability. The Commons is a proposed tiny house village development that would be located on 1.6 acres. Developments In Construction Workers’ Compensation Insurance With The Use Of Biometrics, Kobe Tooch
Developments In Construction Workers’ Compensation Insurance With The Use Of Biometrics, Kobe Tooch
Construction Management
Construction insurance, especially that of workers’ compensation, is vital for the protection of general contractors, but it comes at a high cost and limits their control over contract terms. Biometric devices, such as heart rate monitors and motion capture, have the potential to revolutionize the industry by reducing construction insurance premiums. Heart rate monitors can provide real-time data on workers' physical activity and health, while motion capture analyzes movements to identify unsafe movement patterns performed by workers. By monitoring workers' biometrics, construction companies can ensure their safety, prevent hazards, and implement targeted training programs. This personalized data can lead to …

Optimal Concrete Mix Design And Finish For Skateboarding Performance, Lohgan Christoper Spencer
Optimal Concrete Mix Design And Finish For Skateboarding Performance, Lohgan Christoper Spencer
Construction Management
While concrete has been used in construction for hundreds of years, the introduction of concrete to skateboarding is a relatively new development. Concrete and concrete finishes are very well studied in the context of buildings and building design. Shotcrete is also very well understood as it has been in use for over 100 years. Because it is a relatively new sector of the industry, concrete skatepark construction is an area that has plenty of room for research and development. This research paper will describe the finish methods and mix designs used for concrete skatepark construction by leading skatepark construction companies …

Construction Management
This research analyzes why type D personality, as defined by the DISC personality assessment of 123test, was by far the most common personality type in the Cal Poly Commercial Construction class of winter 2022. This is interesting, as type D is the rarest personality type, making up ~ 9% of the global population (D Style - Type D Personality, n.d.). This was investigated by collecting DISC data from other Cal Poly Construction Management students to see if winter 2022 was an outlier, or if D type prominence is indeed a Cal Poly trend. The results of this research confirm that …
