Random Differential Equations In Water Quality Modeling, Brad A. Finney, David S. Bowles, Michael P. Windham Jan 1979

Random Differential Equations In Water Quality Modeling, Brad A. Finney, David S. Bowles, Michael P. Windham

Reports

A probabilistic river water quality model is developed with the capability of determinging the joint and marginal probability density function of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and dissolved oxygen (DO) at any point in a river. The one dimensional steady-state model can be applied to a river system with any reasonable number of point loads and diversions and lateral surface and subsurface inflow. The model can simultaneously consider randomness in the intital conditions, inputs, and coefficients of the water quality equations. Any empirical or known distribution can be used for the initial condition. The randomness in the water quality equation inputs …

Missouri Dam Safety Inspection Reports

This report presents the results of field inspection and evaluation of the Binder Lake Dam.

It was prepared under the National Program of Inspection of Non-Federal Dams.

This dam has been classified as unsafe, non-emergency by the St. Louis District as a result of the application of the following criteria:
1) Spillway will not pass the Probable Maximum Flood.
2) Overtopping could result in dam failure.
3) Dam failure significantly increases the hazard to loss of life downstream.

A Study Of The Effect Of Vibration On The Residual Stresses In A Welded Fabricated Tube, Shantini Ratnathicam Jan 1979

A Study Of The Effect Of Vibration On The Residual Stresses In A Welded Fabricated Tube, Shantini Ratnathicam

Dissertations and Theses

In many instances the predominant factor contributing to structural failure in welded parts is the residual stress which exists before the part is put into service. In this investigation an attempt is made to study the changes in residual stresses caused by vibrational stress relief (VSR). VSR is a fairly new idea in stress relief and there is no substantial evidence of its success in reducing residual stresses. This thesis documents the residual stress distributions found in 5/16 inch thick, 22 inch diameter welded fabricated tubes after VSR.

Final Report On Project Feasibility : To Jacksonville Transportation Authority, November, 1979, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Flood &. Associates

Jacksonville and Duval Co. Miscellaneous

This report was prepared for the purpose of determining the feasibility of the DPM for the Jacksonville CBD. The gathering of data, the preparation of information, the research, the citizens' participation, the alternatives analysis, and the detailed planning were all done for the purpose of answering one basic question: Is a downtown people mover feasible for Jacksonville?

Stress-Strain Properties Of Compacted Modified Memphis Loess, Danny Lloyd Kerns Jan 1979

Stress-Strain Properties Of Compacted Modified Memphis Loess, Danny Lloyd Kerns

Masters Theses

"A study was made of the stress-strain characteristics of compacted samples of a modified loessial soil obtained near Memphis, Tennessee. The study consisted of compacting samples at a constant water content and at unit weights of 92, 96 and 100 pounds per cubic foot (1470, 1540 and 1600 kg/m3). Triaxial tests were performed on unsaturated compacted specimens to obtain stress-strain-volume change data. These data were used to determine stress-dependent functions for tangent modulus and Poisson's ratio"--Abstract, page ii.

Photogrammetric Digitizing System, Frank Richard Gorshe Jan 1979

Photogrammetric Digitizing System, Frank Richard Gorshe

Dissertations and Theses

The acquisition of terrain data from aerial photography using digital photogrammetric methods gives the engineer and planner an economical alternative to conventional ground surveys. This paper describes a complete photogrammetric digitizing system developed for the Portland District Army Corps of Engineers. The hardware of the system consists of a

Wild AlO first order stereoplotter interfaced to an Altec AC-74 coordinate digitizer which is interfaced to both a Hewlett Packard 9810A programmable calculator and a Digi-Data nine-track magnetic tape recorder. The software of the system consists of photogrammetric routines developed for online computation by the programmable calculator and a sophisticated FORTRAN …
