Evaluation Of Livestock Runoff As A Source Of Water Pollution In Northern Utah, Stephen T. Wieneke, Dennis B. George, Daniel S. Filip, Brad Finney
Evaluation Of Livestock Runoff As A Source Of Water Pollution In Northern Utah, Stephen T. Wieneke, Dennis B. George, Daniel S. Filip, Brad Finney
Reports
A mathematical model was developed to predict the impact of dairy and beef cattle feedlot runoff on receiving streams. The mathematical expressions used in the model describing runoff quantity and quality were not only a function of single rain or snow precipitation events but also consecutive events prior to the runoff occurrence. The runoff quantity and quality were also a function of feedlot surface. Computer simualtions indicate that pollutants from feedlot runoff may have a significant impact on receiving streams during winter months. Runoff from feedlots located within the study area, however, had little impact on water quality in the …

Missouri National Recreational River Management Plan Gavins Point Dam, South Dakota, To Ponca State Park, Nebraska
United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District
The Missouri River begins at Three Forks, Montana, and flows southeasterly for 2,300 miles before joining the Mississippi River a few miles north of St. Louis, Missouri. It ranks as the second longest and is one of the most famous rivers in the United States. It was the primary route of Lewis and Clark. The river shared with the Oregon Trail and the Santa Fe Trail the distinction of being one of the three main throughfares to the Far West. It was a wild and unpredictable river that carried millions of pounds of freight.
Waters of this mighty river are …

Phase 1 Inspection Report: National Dam Safety Program. Mississippi - Kaskaskia - St. Louis Basin. Ditch Creek Dam, Washington County, Missouri, Woodward-Clyde Consultants, Chicago, Illinois
Missouri Dam Safety Inspection Reports
This report presents the results of field inspection and evaluation of Ditch Creek Dam. It was prepared under the National Program of Inspection of Non-Federal Dams.
The inspection results indicate problems with the spillway adequacy. Although the dam is capable of passing the PMF without overtopping, the lack of a proper spillway and discharge channel and the need to pass runoff over a public transportation route (State Highway H) indicates a deficiency at this facility.

Use Of Extreme Value Theory In Estimating Flood Peaks From Mixed Populations, Ronand V. Canfield, D. R. Olsen, R. H. Hawkins, T. L. Chen
Use Of Extreme Value Theory In Estimating Flood Peaks From Mixed Populations, Ronand V. Canfield, D. R. Olsen, R. H. Hawkins, T. L. Chen
Reports
The flood magnitude for a given frequency or return period is estimated by fitting a probability distribution to the historical annual flood series. The log-Pearson type III distribution has been selected by the Water Resources Council for general use by the federal government, but practitioners should examine an annual flood series and use alternative distributions where they will produce better estimates. Empirical goodness of fit is one criterion for choosing a distribution, but the reasonableness of the assumptions theoretically associated with the form of the distribution should also be considered. In theory, extreme-value distributions are particularly applicable to flow series …
Influence Of Unsaturated Hydraulic Properties On Infiltration From Circular Surface Areas, Abdolhossien Nassehzadeh-Tabrizi, Roland W. Jeppson
Influence Of Unsaturated Hydraulic Properties On Infiltration From Circular Surface Areas, Abdolhossien Nassehzadeh-Tabrizi, Roland W. Jeppson
Reports
The effects and interactive effects on infiltration of parameters in the Brooks-Corey equation for defining the hydraulic properties of unsaturated soils are investigated by analyzing the results of numerical solutions of the unsaturated flow characteristics resulting from water applied on a circular surface area. The soil parameters are allowed to vary continuously as a function of depth. The parameters that have been allowed to vary separately and in pairs are: (1) The pore size distribution exponent, (2) Pb- The bubbling pressure, (3) Sr- The residual saturation, (4) n- The soil porosity and (5) Ko- The saturated hydraulic conductivity. The conclusions …
A Study Of Mechanical Degradation Of A Coarse Aggregate Subject To Repeated Loading, Mark Alan Roenfeldt
A Study Of Mechanical Degradation Of A Coarse Aggregate Subject To Repeated Loading, Mark Alan Roenfeldt
Masters Theses
"This investigation concerns itself with the problem of mechanical degradation of a coarse aggregate and specifically as it is used as railroad ballast. Laboratory tests were used to study the aggregate with respect to its plastic deformation characteristics, the amount of degradation, changes in gradation, and the rate of change of degradation as a function of the number of load cycles.
The repeated load triaxial tests were used to study how degradation occurs with respect to aggregate gradation, relative density, and the number of load applications. The Los Angeles abrasion test was also used to determine the degradation of the …

Final Environmental Impact Statement Missouri National Recreational River Nebraska And South Dakota
United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District
The Missouri River from Gavins Point Dam to Ponca State Park, Nebraska, is one of the few remaining relatively natural, braided reaches of the Missouri River. The Corps of Engineers and the Heritage, Conservation, and Recreation Service have investigated public concerns related to streambank erosion control and recreational development along this river reach. Two plans were initially considered and one was selected for detailed study. The selected plan consists of development of the river reach as a recreation river under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. This plan would meet all streambank erosion control and recreational development needs and would …

Flora And Fauna A Biliography With Abstracts Or Partial Summaries
United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District
The Missouri River from Gavins Point Dam to Ponca State Park, Nebraska was designated, on 10 November 1978, a National Recreational River. The purpose of the designation is to preserve and protect the river reach and to make its resources available for public use.
The Secretary of the Interior has been mandated to administer the river. Acting through the Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, the Secretary of the Interior has entered into a written cooperative agreement with the Secretary of the Army (acting through the Chief of Engineers) to provide for construction and maintenance of erosion control work …
