This study aims to systematically evaluate the performance of preformed particle gels (PPGs) in fractured carbonates mainly through a series of core flooding experiments. Carbonate reservoirs exhibit unique features of heterogeneity and pore geometry, while (PPGs) are known for their plugging efficiency, deformability, and dehydratable nature. The main goal of gel injection in fractured reservoirs is to place a gel pack appropriately into the fracture, diverting injected fluid to the oil-bearing matrix and reducing excessive water production. Hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is considered an energy-efficient process with high potential for utilization in many chemical processes. This study presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of cavitating flow through an orifice with a constant flow area. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, coupled with turbulence and cavitation models, are employed to capture the complex flow behaviors. The effects of inlet pressures and number of orifice-holes on cavitation behavior are investigated. The University at Albany designed and manufactured 59 low-cost air quality sensor packages to continuously measure PM₂.₅, CO, O₃, NO₂, and NO at 38 New York State Mesonet (NYSM) sites located in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Prior to use for monitoring, low-cost sensors require calibration to correct for environmental sensitivities. Calibration models can be developed using data collected from co-location periods in which low-cost sensors are installed at sites with Federal Reference Methods and/or Federal Equivalent Methods instruments. One of the key sources of carbon dioxide emissions to the environment is fossil fuel combustion for power generation. Post-combustion CO2 capture using amine-based solvents is currently the most matured process. However, amines are corrosive and lead to degradation products at even moderate temperatures generating environmental pollutants, and require high energy for regeneration. Solid sorbents are a promising alternative. Ethylene is one of the most widely produced petrochemicals, with an estimated global output of 180 million metric tons in 2022. Approximately 82 million metric tons of ethylene are used annually for plastic production, primarily for polyethylene (PE), as well as polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The CO₂ emissions associated with PE production were approximately 14 million metric tons in 2022. Globally, an estimated 70 million metric tons of PE are produced and consumed each year, with the majority (~79%) ending up in landfills or the environment.

In this work, the GW63K (Mg-6.54Gd-3.93Y-0.41Zr, wt.%) alloy wire was utilized as the feedstock material and the thin-walled component was fabricated using wire-arc additive manufacturing technology (WAAM). The microstructural evolution during deposition and subsequent heat treatment was explained through multi-scale microstructural characterization techniques, and the impact of heat treatment on the strength-ductility synergy of the deposited alloy was systematically compared. The results showed that the microstructure of the deposited sample was mainly composed of fine equiaxed α-Mg grains and Mg24(Gd,Y)5 phase. In this study, the latest developments in 3D printing of porous glasses are discussed. Current challenges in 3D printing of porous-based microfluidic devices mostly include the printing resolution which is correlated with the processing time, post treating, and developing tailored materials for porous glasses. Although the latter issue has been resolved to some extent recently, the former has remained a challenge. The elimination of dye pollutants from industrial wastewaters, notably from sectors such as textiles and dyeing, remains a pivotal aspect of pollution mitigation endeavours. This research introduces an innovative strategy employing Y zeolite as a nano-porous adsorbent for eliminating methylene blue (MB), a prevalent cationic dye. Y zeolite was synthesised via hydrothermal technique. Through methodical experimentation, the impact of temperature, contact time, concentration, pH and adsorbent quantity on removal efficiency were examined with optimal conditions achieving 93.83% MB removal. Herein, the adsorption of anionic (methyl orange) and cationic (methylene blue) dyes on sub-bituminous coal was intensively studied. The processing parameters of laser melting deposition (LMD) can significantly influence the microstructure and properties of LMD components. Herein, we manufactured TiBw/Ti–6Al–4V titanium matrix composite (TMC) using LMD, aiming to obtain the optimal preparation parameters. The electrical resistivity of the TMC first decreased and then increased, which was related to the microstructural evolution. TiBw network was formed in the matrix during LMD, indicating the in situ reaction of TiB2 during LMD. The reinforcement TiBw was tended to precipitate preferentially during solidification. This work systematically analyzes the effects of heat treatment on the mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of Ti-50Zr alloy produced via vacuum arc melting. Microstructural characterization demonstrates that the microstructure of Ti–50Zr transforms from coarse lamellar α phase in as-cast condition to fine and uniformly distributes acicular α′ phase in heat-treatment state. The tensile strength, yield strength, and microhardness are significantly improved. This strengthening effect can be attributed to grain refinement and increase in dislocation density induced by heat treatment. Salination of solutions of salinity gradient releases large-scale clean and renewable energy, which can be directly and efficiently transformed into electrical energy using ion-selective nanofluidic channel membranes. However, conventional ion-selective membranes are typically either cation- or anion-selective. A pH-switchable system capable of dual cation and anion transport along with salt gradient energy harvesting properties has not been demonstrated in ion-selective membranes. Here, we constructed an amphoteric heterolayer metal–organic framework (MOF) membrane with subnanochannels modified with carboxylic and amino functional groups. The increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions has driven the exploration of alternative fuels, such as coal–biomass briquettes, which combine the benefits of both coal and renewable biomass sources. This study focuses on the development and characterization of sustainable coal–biomass briquettes made from sub-bituminous coal (SubC) and Levistona chinensis seed biomass, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and enhancing combustion properties. Briquettes were produced by varying the coal-to-biomass ratios (90:0–0:90), with 10% corn starch used as a binder. Owing to the cellular structure that limits dislocation motion upon stress loading, additively manufactured (AM) refractory high-entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit an excellent strength-plasticity synergy. This work integrates micro/nano-mechanical experiments with statistical physics modeling to examine dislocation nucleation and slip in AM-fabricated TiNbTaZrMo HEA. Computational results indicated that the activation volume for initial dislocation nucleation is about one atomic volume, facilitating dislocation initiation. Nanoindentation and in-situ micro-pillar compression reveal no significant pop-in events, indicating that the cellular structure impedes dislocation slip and thus prevents plasticity reduction from dislocation slipping near grain boundaries. The extracellular matrix can be replicated by 3D scaffolds, providing a favorable environment for cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation. Despite their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and bioactivity, the poor mechanical strength of 3D scaffolds limits their use for heavy loads. This creates a bottleneck in the supply of scaffolds with enhanced mechanical strength and all the previously mentioned characteristics. Conjugated polymers have emerged as a promising option for 3D scaffold construction due to their electrical conductivity, adjustable surface qualities, and ability to transfer bioactive molecules. Inverted perovskite solar cells are one of the most promising technologies for the next generation of photovoltaics, due to excellent stability and a relatively simple fabrication process. Nevertheless, attaining high efficiency remains a challenge in integrating appropriate materials for HTL and an absorber layer. This work focuses on SCAPS-1D simulations to optimize the design of inverted PSCs using NiO as the HTL and a mixed-cation perovskite, MA₀.₄FA₀.₆PbI₃, as an absorber. This study assesses the feasibility of using mine tailings for mineral carbonation and nickel recovery through a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA). The LCA quantifies greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, and resource consumption, while the TEA evaluates capital investment, operational costs, and process efficiency. The conventional beneficiation process at Eagle Mine serves as a baseline, highlighting its environmental footprint and operational costs. The Cool Gas-to-Liquid (Cool GTL) process converts biogas and captured CO2 into renewable hydrocarbon fuels, contributing to GHG emissions reduction in transportation. This report explains a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study that was completed to evaluate the environmental impact of different feedstocks, hydrogen sources, and electricity inputs. The analysis considers biogas from food waste, manure, and landfill sources, as well as biogenic, fossil, and direct air capture (DAC) CO2 feedstocks. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most widely used polymers in plastics packaging. However, the increasing demand for PET has created challenges in waste disposal. Previous research has shown that PET can be deconstructed using ammonium hydroxide (CDPET). Microorganisms capable of utilizing the product as a sole carbon source can be converted to single-cell protein (SCP). A custom microbial inactivation unit was developed to ensure the safety and stability of generated SCP. Plastic waste management is an issue worldwide, particularly for locations with challenging logistics, such as remote locations, those impacted by natural disasters, and regions with armed conflict. These locations also struggle with food logistics and malnutrition. It is possible to tackle both issues by combining chemical deconstruction to depolymerize plastic waste with microbial conversion of the liquid product into biomass that can be used as an edible protein powder.
