Geologic Structure And Mine Roof Falls In Selected Coal Beds Within Appalachia, David Hylbert

This study investigated stratigraphic and structural causes of roof falls in room-and-pillar drift coal mines in nine mines in eastern Kentucky and the Dunkard Basin of West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The primary purpose of this study (Church, 1982) was to identify microcomputer topics that might be of value as part of the instructional programs of secondary vocational agriculture in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. The specific objectives were to:

1. Determine the knowledge possessed by Northwest vocational agriculture instructors regarding microcomputer usage and capability.
2. Determine the need for inservice training in microcomputer usage for Northwest vocational agriculture instructors.
3. Determine which microcomputer systems were most readily available to Northwest vocational agriculture instructors.
4. Analyze the value placed by Northwest vocational agriculture instructors on selected microcomputer topics for use in the curriculum.

The primary purpose of this study (Rush, 1982) was to evaluate differences in how vocational agriculture instructors and their administrators viewed the importance of selected activities of vocational agriculture instructors. Views of principals and superintendents regarding the importance of the duties and responsibilities of the vocational agriculture instructor were also compared.

During the academic year 1976–1977, a new Vocational Agriculture Core curriculum was implemented in Nebraska (Nebraska, 1977). This new curriculum, patterned from the Oklahoma Vocational Agriculture Core Curriculum, was prepared at the University of Nebraska during the summer of 1976 (Oklahoma, 1974). During the 1976–1977 academic ·year, the Core Curriculum was implemented through district workshops for vocational agriculture teachers.

A Follow-Up Study Of Graduate Students Admitted To The Central Washington University Special Education Administrator Program, Richard P. Lynch

The purpose of this study was to determine characteristics of those candidates who had been admitted into the Central Washington University Special Education Administrator Program in order to draw conclusions concerning identifying profiles; ascertain the extent to which the respondents perceived the required courses of instruction as relevant to subsequent educational functions; and finally to determine specific reason(s) for non completion of program leading to Washington State Program Administrator Certification.

The Use Of Feuerstein’S Instrumental Enrichment With Underprepared College Students: A Pilot Study, Michael Kieta

This pilot study investigated the usage of Feuerstein’s (1980) Instrumental Enrichment with underprepared college students. Open admissions policies in colleges and universities have resulted in the enrollment of many students who are underprepared to meet the academic task demands. Courses have been developed by the colleges and universities to remediate the academic deficits of underprepared students. Remedial courses using traditional educational methods have been largely ineffective. Cognitive process instruction (CPI) is an area of educational research that recently began to receive increased attention in the field of remedial education. Christian mathematics faculty and students respond in differing ways to this idea of applying mathematics to Scripture, and vice-versa. Mathematics is man-made, while Scripture is inspired by God, so they should be disjoint entities. However, it is well known that the Scripture used analogies of familiar human objects and ideas in order to explain spiritual ideas. This paper discusses various mathematical concepts and how they illustrate Scriptural and spiritual ideas.

Morris Kline was a contentious mathematician and author, documenting (as he saw it) both the deficiencies of mid-twentieth-century reformist trends in mathematics education and formalist views of the foundations (and practice) of mathematics. This brief introduction to a discussion of Kline's 1980 book and its mixed reception by the mathematics community provides a context for assessing his ideas as part of his overall views on the nature of mathematics.

Business Opportunities Within Appalachian Kentucky, Robert Justice

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

This report's methodology involves comparing the average local population per store for a particular business with state averages for that business to determine whether sufficient population exists to support a new business. By using this methodology, 382 prospective business opportunities have been identified out of a possible 1,416. The potential opportunities are divided into the retail , service, and construction sectors and are targeted for 12 market areas within Appalachian Kentucky.
