About 300 high school science students and forty science teachers gathered in Iowa City for the Eleventh Annual Iowa Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium held in conjunction with the Annual Iowa Junior Academy of Science State Meeting. The three-day symposium was entitled, “Mankind, Science, and Tomorrow."

Organizational Meeting For The Proposed Iowa College Biology Teachers Association

Most teachers have felt a faster heart beat at one time or another when their principal enters the room to "observe them teach." Both know that an evaluation report will soon be written and distributed to the district office, eventually finding its way to the board of education. Dave Kanellis, a teacher of social studies and environmental studies at West High School in Iowa City, is what one might consider a teacher's teacher. Although Dave was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, he has acquired many of the characteristics of a midwesterner, one of which is a down-to-earth approach with people. This characteristic is displayed in many ways in the classroom as well.
