In most wireless channels, the signals propagate in all directions. For the communication between Alice and Bob, an Eavesdropper can receive the signals from both Alice and Bob as far as the Eavesdropper is in the range determined by the transmitting power. Through phased array antenna with beam tracking circuits or cooperative iteration, the signals are confined near the straight line connecting the positions of Alice and Bob, so it will largely reduce the valid placement of an Eavesdropper. Sometimes, this reduction can be prohibitive for Eavesdropper to wiretap the channel since the reduced space can be readily protected. Two …

A Cohort-Based Program To Help Students Prepare A Conference Research Presentation, Alanna Lecher

Florida Statewide Symposium: Best Practices in Undergraduate Research

Students move through many first time experiences when navigating their undergraduate and graduate education. Such experiences include the first time students submit an article to a peer-reviewed scientific journal, attend a conference, and conduct fieldwork. The cohort model has been shown to be effective in increasing success in undergraduate education, and it can be adapted to helping students succeed in these novel experiences as well. This presentation will explore one program where the cohort model was implemented to aid undergraduate students preparing their first conference presentation on a scientific research project. Program structure and implementation will be described.

Despite significant increases in the growth of online education, a review of research reveals few studies of faculty perceptions of the use of technology in classrooms in higher education. Research can explore and illuminate how to bridge the gap between faculty perceptions and institutional goals and objectives for online programs. The study at hand presents the views of full-time and adjunct faculty across the colleges, both on- and off-campus, and the online community, at the University of La Verne, a private Tier II doctoral degree-granting institution located in Southern California.

According to the national organization FARE (Food Allergy Research Education), researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans, including one in 13 children, have food allergies. In fact, a 2013 report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the number of children with food allergies in the U.S. increased 50 percent between 1997 and 2011. Food allergy reactions send someone to the emergency department every three minutes, resulting in more than 200,000 emergency department visits in the U.S. per year. (FARE, n.d.).

In educational interventions, Hilty and colleagues (Gish &Hilty, 2018; Hilty, 2017; Hilty, Gish, Gill-Rocha, 2017a, 2017b; Hilty et al., 2017c; Hilty et al., 2018a, 2018b, 2018c, 2018d, 2018e, 2018f) have evaluated teaching strategies for increasing student self-efficacy in relation to statistics. One teaching strategy intervention involved RN Faculty offering 20-minute presentations in their expert areas. A hypothetical database was created based on the RN presentation demostrating the relationship between the field of nursing and statistics. The database was analyzed using an inferential test(s), and students interpreted the findings (Hagen, Awosoga, Kellett, & Dei, 2013; Neuman, Hood, & Neumann, 2013). The …

To Frame Or Not To Frame: Improving Goal Setting, Alexander Dontre

Goal setting is a fundamental mechanism used to enhance performance and to promote individual and organizational achievement. Accordingly, developing ways to improve goal effectiveness can be a valuable endeavor. This project proposes that the way in which goals are framed should be positively correlated with success rates. New Year's resolutions were determined to be framed either positively or negatively, and then compared to the self-reported success rates. The study results confirmed that goals with positive framing resulted in higher success rates than did goals with negative framing.

Cognitive appraisal and stress research has been applied to training stressors, creative arts, pregnancy, psychotherapy, academic, and sleep quality (Erschens et al.,2018; Martin, et al., 2018; Gonzalex-Ochoa, 2018; Wersebe et al., 2018; You-wei et al., 2018). The purpose of this investigation was to study the effects of stress and stressors experienced by first semester BSN undergraduate students. The Brief College Student Hassle Scale (BCSHC) measured stressors (Ward & Hay, 2015). Participants rated their school and personal stresss levels, and the area most stressful.
