This report focuses on graduates of Bank Street College Graduate School of Education teacher certification programs, by examining the quality of their preparation, their teaching practices upon graduation, and the influence they have on their students’ learning. It also looks at the cumulative effects of school-wide practices at schools supportive of the Bank Street approach. The results conveyed here are based on the combined analyses of extensive surveys of graduates and employers; large-scale administrative data related to the impact of program graduates on pupil learning in New York City public schools; in-depth classroom and school observations; and interviews of graduates, …

The author explores her partnership with an entire class during the semester to solve a problem in the book club learning activities she had planned. The introduction frames the essays included in this issue as developing student-faculty partnerships with a range of collaborative relationships. The first three essays explore partnerships that are program-based partnerships. The next four essays explore various kinds of student-faculty partnerships that unfold within classroom-focused experiences. In the final section, three essays that focus on partnerships beyond the boundaries of the classroom and the campus are shared. All ten essays contribute to chronicling multiple versions of the development of student-faculty partnerships at Bridgewater State University.

The integrative and mentoring aspects of undergraduate research can help to enhance the academic and social participation of underrepresented students. For the past decade or so, I have created primary document readers for my class using copyright-permitted documents or documents where the author has granted permission for educational purposes. These would usually be about 200-300 pages. I would send them to the copy center for binding and then these would be sold in the bookstore to the students. The cost to the student was about $15-20.
There were three issues that were of concern. First, these books were not too expensive, but I was exploring ways to move the sourcebooks online so the students did not have this cost. Also, …

Simulated practice of clinical skills has occurred in skills laboratories for generations, and there is strong evidence to support high-fidelity clinical simulation as an effective tool for learning performance-based skills. What are less known are the processes within clinical simulation environments that facilitate the learning of socially bound and integrated components of nursing practice. Our purpose in this study was to ethnographically describe the situated learning within a simulation laboratory for baccalaureate nursing students within the western United States. Does Interprofessional Education Change Student Attitudes About Interprofessional Learning And Patient Safety?, Deborah Poling, Dawn Labarbera, Mary Kiersma

INTRODUCTION The Fort Wayne Area Interprofessional Education Consortium (FWAIPEC) evaluated the outcomes of its educational initiative with a pre and post assessment utilizing the Readiness for Interprofessional Education tool (RIPLS). The seminar series was designed as a longitudinal team building experience to foster competency toward interprofessional collaborative practice.
METHODS Participants from pharmacy, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse executive, medical and family practice residency programs were surveyed as part of the curriculum assessment.
RESULTS Primarily reflecting the required attendance of the pharmacy and physician assistant students, 122 participants completed both assessments (89.7% response rate). Wilcoxon signed rank tests were …

Key partnerships with local, public, and private partners provide students, faculty, and staff with remarkable opportunities to contribute to the physical, social, and economic development of the Portland metropolitan region. This article traces the evolution of PSU’s engagement and partnership agenda and shares lessons learned by PSU as it seeks to better coordinate and centralize key components of its vast engagement and partnership portfolio. Institutional repositories (IRs) established at universities and academic libraries over a decade ago, large and small, have encountered challenges along the way in keeping faith with their original objective: to collect, preserve, and disseminate the intellectual output of an institution in digital form. While all institutional repositories have experienced the same obstacles relating to a lack of faculty participation, those at small universities face unique challenges. This article examines causes of low faculty contribution to IR content growth, particularly at small academic institutions. Curriculum Integration: The Experience Of Three Founding Faculty At A New Community College, Nicole Saint-Louis, Karla Fuller, Naveen Seth

This article explores the design and implementation of the curriculum for City Seminar, an integrated course in the first-year experience at a new community college. This interdisciplinary course focuses on a critical issue that provides content and context for quantitative reasoning (QR), reading, and writing (RW) to strengthen students’ developmental skills. This integrated curriculum is taught in a learning community. Its goals include greater information retention, better transfer of knowledge and developmental skills-building while students earn college credit. These tie in with the College’s overarching goals of improving retention and graduation rates. Early results from this curriculum are encouraging.
