College Decisions And Earnings Over The Life Cycle: The Effects Of Timing, Ruirui Sun

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Using a rich and unique nationally representative sample of a cohort of young adults selected in the late 1970s and surveyed routinely through the 2010s, this study characterizes patterns in college enrollment with respect to the timing of initial enrollment, enrollment interruptions, and graduation (or non-completion) and investigates the relationship between such timing decisions and earnings trajectories from high school graduation to more than 30 years later. This is an empirical study, relying on quantitative analysis of campus-level information to explore the associations of interest. The study extends conventional measures of instructional efficiency, both by attributing portions of resources in student services, academic support and institutional support to …

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

This study seeks to identify Knowledge Communities (KC) in the field of InternationalEducation (IE). Kuhn’s concept of research paradigms (2012), Crane’s theory of scientific communities (1988), and Linkvist’s theory of knowledge communities (2005) provide theoretical basis of this study. Using a novel, mixed methodology – bibliometrics and content analysis – this study identifies KCs among both IE researchers and practitioners. Researcher Knowledge Communities (RKCs) were identified using the research Community Model (RCM) developed by Klavand and Boyack (2009, 2010, 2017, 2019, 2020) and data from all journals and books published between 2000 to May 2019 and catalogued in Scopus. Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

This study seeks to understand the effectiveness of impact mitigation strategies developed to assist college students displaced by institutional closure following a natural disaster. A case-study approach focuses on a subset of students displaced by Hurricane Katrina, who enrolled at Syracuse University for the Fall 2005 semester. The study found that Katrina students who availed themselves of this opportunity resided in zip codes with relatively high household incomes when compared to non-Katrina transfer students and therefore were likely to be from households of higher socioeconomic status. The study also found that there was no international student representation in the sample …

Under God: Political Views And Experiences Among Young Adults Attending An Evangelical College, Olga Dietlin, Amy Sparks, Hannah Bayne

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

While polarization has increased the saliency of political values, political meaning-making has been scarcely addressed in higher education literature and training. Additionally, even though the political orientation of evangelicals has been back in the spotlight since the 2016 presidential campaign, little research has been done to explore the interplay of faith commitments and political values among students at an evangelical college. This study examined religiosity, ideology, political attitudes, the salience of political identity, and experience with political differences among students at an evangelical Christian liberal arts institution (n = 223). Descriptive data confirmed the salience of religious belief and practice …

Cultivating The Self-Awareness Of Global Students: The Role Of Communities Of Practice, Stephanie Calley

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

As such, global students include international students as well as other globally mobile students such as children of international military personnel, businesspeople, and religious workers. This qualitative research sought to understand how global …
