This study was designed to research the development of the physical education program at Eastern Illinois University relative to its use of audio visual materials. The period covered was 1899-1984. The curriculum of physical education was researched from 1899-1924 to provide background for the reporting of the early use of audio visual materials.
The writer interviewed Dr . Gene W. Scholes, Director of the Audio Visual Center, and checked the Center's inventory records. The writer also interviewed staff members of the Physical Education Department and thereby established that instructional media materials were used extensively in athletics and in departmental activities. …

The purpose of this study was to determine what effect participation in activity classes has on the acquisition of physical fitness knowledge. No significant difference was found between activity and non-activity students. The performance of Central Washington University students did not differ significantly from national percentile norms. Certain topics of physical fitness knowledge were difficult than others. found to be significantly more A renewed effort in the construction and use of standardized knowledge tests in physical education was recommended.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of three color conditions on handgrip strength and shoulder abduction strength in trained and untrained college males and females. It has been suggested that differences in electromagnetic properities [sic] under exposure to visual stimuli (color) may affect muscular strength throughout the body. Subjects consisted of forty male and forty female volunteers from the University of Northern Iowa. Six different treatments were administered to all subjects. Maximal strength exertion under all conditions (normal, blue and pink) was measured with a cable tensiometer. Statistical analysis revealed significant main effects on the SEX …

The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes toward death and dying of college students in selected colleges and universities in Virginia. The purpose was to identify attitudinal differences relating to the characteristics of sex, race, age, religious preference, degree of religiosity, socio-economic area, income level, marital status, political viewpoints, imminent personal death, and personal death experience.
The Complete Inventory Price Death Attitude Scale was administered to 886 college students during the 1979-80 academic school year. Data were statistically analyzed by the Discriminant Analysis Technique and the Cattell Coefficient of Profile Similarity.

The purpose of this investigation was to compare the effectiveness of the traditional (T.), programmed with loop films to present skills (P.), and traditional with the Video Tape Recorder (V.T.R.) methods of instruction upon learning and retention of beginning badminton skills. Three beginning coed badminton classes at Old Dominion University were randomly assigned to one of the three treatments. This study investigated the attitudes of faculty members toward the role of intercollegiate athletics in selected institutions of higher education. The perceptions of the faculty members were collected by means of a questionnaire comprised of three sections: Section 1 requested demographic data; Section 2 requested responses to forty-eight items relating to intercollegiate athletics, and Section 3 requested additional comments, A five-point Likert scale containing five response categories including strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, and strongly disagree was utilized in Section 2.
The forty-eight items included in the questionnaire were formulated primarily through the literature review, and from discussions with leading …

Twenty-three male college students were placed into one of four groups based upon a three minute shooting test. Each group had a specific shooting assignment and the students shot only those shots assigned. Group one consisted of seven shooting bank shots; group two, six shooting rim shots; group three, five shooting bank and rim shots; group four, five shooting bank or rim shots indiscriminately. All shots were taken from six designated angles and fifteen feet from the backboard.
